Sometimes If the G73 goes into hibernation or standby, when it returns to windows the freqs of the GPU are stuck in 300/1000 or 500/1000
-
I tried everything on high and it was pretty laggy. Menu items took a second to light about, moue lagged a little. I guess I'll try it again later.
How do you see the clock info? -
With GPU-Z (freeware) ^^
-
Use GPUz or AMD Clock Tool
Try Turbo Twin Boost button, migh give a little boost
I don't think SC2 can run flawlessly on a single mobility 5780 though, try to run it on high maybe
-
Thanks guys! I'm gonna try this out right now.
EDIT:
Tested again. Texture and Graphics set to HIGH I get only 8-10 FPS (Fraps)
Texture and Graphics set to MEDIUM I get 18-20 FPS (Fraps)
Medium is playable High is not. So the problem is not me playing it on a 27" monitor with HDMI because it also happens on the laappy itself (just in case that could be a factor).
Also everything has a delay. Typing on the KB in game and even moving the mouse. Happens on Medium settings as well. -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Oops, nevermind
Q -
That sounds like something is running in the background. AV, or some other memory resident app.
Cheers, -
I doubt it's a background issue. All I had running while testing was Fraps for the FPS and my AV which is Avast Free, which doesn't do a whole lot in the background. I'll try it again without my AV running and see if there is a difference.
But if the OP is right and it's the cause of these flashes I have been doing, should I go back to BIOS 209? Or use an older version of CCC? -
Yup. I had that happen too. Had to use AMD GPU Clock tool to restore to default clocks.
-
You can restore it in "devices manager" right click -->monitor adapters---> disable 5870 and re-enable 5870 (or restar win
)
-
It sure can run on Ultra! ... just not as Zerg. Creep will make your FPS drop to about 15-20. Also, FRAPS will suck up a bunch of your framerate. Use alt+ctrl+f (I think?) to get the internal FPS. Usually replays are recorded (not actual game play, and they're much less processor intense), so I'm not sure why you're using fraps.
Anyways, your speeds seem very low. Are you *SURE* there isn't something else running in teh background? Perhaps it is just fraps that is slowing everything down... but maybe you've got something else? -
Fixed it!!!
Update vBIOS w/ Chastity's OD.
- Still on 10.8 ATI and 211 BIOS see if this fixed anything. Nothing.
Removed ATI 10.8 Drivers, used Driver Sweeper, installed 10.7a drivers.
- Still on 211 BIOS and w/ OD vBIOS
Now I can play SC2 at Ultra with a brilliant FPS of about 50-70 instead of the 8-12 I was getting before. Wow 10.8 drivers really effective the video that badly....! -
Good to hear! Three cheers for the swarm! -
Weird. I'm using 10.8 drivers, 2.11 BIOS, and stock VBios. SC2 runs great on ultra settings.
-
it seems to be a wrong install of 10.8, somethimes happen
-
In my side, 10.8 were fantastic with sc2, but I feel (objectless) some weird the frame rate in other games than SC2 as MW2 for instance. So, I move to 10.7a an everything is fine so far.
-
He probably had a somewhat b0rk 10.8 install initially.
-
Ya a borked install (going from 10.1/9.12 - 10.8 may not work as a overthetop install since the drivers are so far apart version wise. (things may have changed a lot since then) compared to a 10.7-10.8 install.
I am running a (edited) 10.9 install and so far SC2 as well as everything else I have tested runs great. -
So should I be running 10.8 or 10.7a? I'm using 10.8 with 211 and the new OD vBIOS. I don't 'see' any problems but it seems people are saying to use 10.7a.
-
If you don't see any problems, then don't mess with it.
-
I'm using 10.8 just fine. Don't worry about it.
-
But is there a HUGE difference between 10.7a and 10.8?
Cause I'm OCD about these things, but I like being up to date with everything! LoL! -
sometime bfbc2 freeze for 1-2sec . is it because 10.8 ?
-
Using my modified vBios (3D clocks unchanged etc, battery mode 100/150 and 400/600 @ .9v, using OverDrive)
Bios 211
Atheros WIFI.
Catalyst 10.8
And I have zero stuttering. Smooth and smooth. My G73jh is laughing and dancing on HellCry's.
- So far my highest temp has been 81C with Furmark Extreme, for one hour. Don't care HellCry, don't like the hairy donuts so much I'll be staring at it for 2 hours, ROFL.
- Not using my notebook cooler.

you must have done repaste that's why 45C at idle
-
I was the 2nd person to do so after Mandrake back in February
- Then again after my RMA -
I guess you answered your own question.
-
u are using cooler also ?
ohh i still worry about my warranty so i haven't repasted right now with cooler temp. is idle 57C and gaming max. 88C while playing BFBC2 for non stop 8hrs . -
The problem of stuttering with 5400 rpm disk can be caused by a protection technolog(auto-park) y that have the WD SCORPIO BLUE of the g73.
EDIT: another laptop with this problem with a scorpio blue http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...9-any-hdd-recommendations-dont-auto-park.html -
I repasted a and MemIO still remained the hottest, it's not stock paste related.
-
I believe the problem is HD related.
I have here a WD scorpio blue 5400rpm 640gb in n61jq and it suffer micro.stuttering
See theHD graph in resources monitor (max active time (blue line) is up and down):

One solution is disable the AAM/APM -
what are you using to play music?
Games don't perform very well with 211 bios and new vbios
