They're great, but since the point is to mod your nb and take your temps as low as possible i would think in a more effective design, something like that grill i show you before.

The aluminum plate in contact with air will knock down 1 or 2 º of temp when the air enter and you will not expose the fan to dust directly =)

pffft. I could get a hammer and sickle machined if I wanted. =P. might do that when I get my clips made. You definitely need to add that to the mods you plan on doing to your new clevo.

I want to go back to the basics and mod my M38AW before I even think about planning the blueprints for modding my not so soon coming W870CU. I still need to keep this damn 6600 Go cool enough for an overclock.

Well for now I'll be using a boring black mesh but I figured a stylish grill for the future would be nice. Raiden, I think all the grills I showed are aluminum so the only concern would be how much the design impedes airflow. Here's a full list of them: http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l2/g36/c221/list/p1/Fans-Fan_Grills.html?id=JtmA57YL

Also, something like this device might be what we need to keep our G51 fan on all the time: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9...Speed_Fan_Controller_FanMate-2.html?tl=g47c17 Based on the description, it bypasses the bios control so we could set it to keep the fan on constantly. This one is 3 pin but that doesn't really matter since the 4th pin I believe is for sensor control anyway so a 4 pin y splitter would solve that issue.

Oh wow this one would be awesome if we stuck it in the HDD expansion bay and it actually worked: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/i...Fan_Adapter_Card_FS01-0003-AKS.html?tl=g47c17 Imagine the possiblities.

Well on the bright side, apparently even if asus is still out of stock of the plastic door, my friend just go it and checked it the correct one, and my boss goes to US on Monday, everything is playing out good right now.... now if only the copperblocks would show next week then it would make my month.

Ill post photos and tests while i do the mods, and probably will under volt last to see if it will still be worth the drops after all physical mods have been done.

Don't cut the hole out in a hurry like I did. My NC2000 gets here tomorrow. Ordered some MX-3 today as well. So I've got everything ordered at this point, I'm waiting on the blocks just like you are. I don't think they're going to get here anytime soon though since they're coming from Asia. How long ago did you order the blocks?

I know, but i do want to do the hard none reversable mods like coopperblocks first n the hole (although ill still have the original), with the undervolt i might see less impact, so for documentation purposes i prefer to do the blocks on stock, then the hole and last the undervolt.

And it just hit me. Silly Asus. Leave it at GTX 9800m clocks, but at GTX 260m voltages.

i found out another great way to do the mesh.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-of-2-New-CO...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27a6213b0a

I had an idea of something though i can't really find a good pic till i buy one myself. saw one at a suppermart at about 2 sgd.

the idea is some sort of cooking scoop. the wire mesh is thin and easily available. Further more various hole sizes are available on the market. It is easy to cut and moddify. Thus i am gonna grab one today and do it for the kondor hole mod. It will definitely keep out unwanted particles into the vents.

Cheap and simple solutions if you will to ask me.

And got a coolermaster X2 at cost price too yesterday. Gonna try out if it is even useful. Any way it cost me only 18 usd.

this is not bad too :

Well the copperblocks just arrived to my US address, so i might get them early next week :D . The tape and thermal pads are already in customs. Probably will have everything including the back part by next Saturday.

Btw forge n soviet, so just clean the block form the old tape with alcohol and the pipe and just stick it the new Sekisui tape, or any more things in between?

Just make sure the blocks and the surface you're sticking them to are as clean as possible, measure and cut the tape, then stick :)

Yo guys, I was thinking seeing as you have the hotter laptops that this mod may be a good idea. Make a nice big hole over the CPU heatsink and put a grill over it. This would make most of the air intake flow over the GPU which will probably cool it a lot but on the other side your CPU will get a little warmer probably a good trade off still.

I doubt the CPU will go higher, probably temps should drop some as the Fan/cooler is getting fresher air. Only things that might heat a little more might be ram n hd since you are disrupting the internal flow, but G51 hd temps are more than good enough atm, aswell as the ram bearly gets warm, and even if only gains are on the gpu, then so be it, the rest of the stuff is fine as it is.

Being a G71 previous owner, i never bother opening it, but i just saw a review with a pic of it. Didnt see much places to put blocks on it like in the g51. Just courious into what you did.

Get some sandpaper--not too high grit, though--and lap it so it's as level as possible. I don't think it's absolutely necessary, but hey, anything to get it as cool as possible, right?

Y splitter was too big, it fits a desktop mainboard. Guess I'll have to look harder for one that's compatible with a notebook connector. The 80mm mesh Abula and I ordered is too big, it creates too much tension when trying to glue it in place. Since I'm planning on ordering another panel since I scratched this one, I decided to just drill in screws to hold the mesh in place and it worked good. Here's a pic:

:( I had hopes for the 80mm mesh, but will see i gotta cut it aswell but i gotta see the depth and how it fits first, but exaclty what you said is what i feared. I have 120mm mesh aroud that will try aswell. I think it looks good still, i can bearly see the screws and probably more secure than with epoxy/glue.

So what are you gona do, a flat mesh or circular grill?

I'm going to go with a flat square mesh next time. The 120mm won't work either because the circle's diameter is too big to fit fully in the cut out hole. The 80mm comes close but it doesn't quite work. I think maybe a 60mm would be a perfect fit.

Get a sheet of mesh, use a hole saw to cut the size you want, glue it on, done. It's not hard.

Yeah pretty much what I'm gonna do minus the hole saw part--gonna use a dremel. Although a flat mesh won't look as nice as the one with an indented circle.

    Hey guys..i'm new in here..lol

im going to buy g51vx-a1 tomorrow..i read some opinions about this ASUS series..and overall..the problem is it about the heat that is produced??well..i'm not too familiar with those overclock things and so on..

and i guess..i will run my laptop without overclocking it..*that might causing a problem in the heat temp.and i think it's enough for me..hehehe..

Will i have the heat problem if i dont do the overclock?thx for ur reply.God bless.

There only a handfull of games that will take the g51 up to the 90C+, but also ambient temps afect this, and we are entering the cold season, so you might be fine. There are other alternatives like active/passive notebook coolers, copper block mods, grill mods, undervolt etc.
