Ehm, i'm planning to shrink themnot to try to put them like that in my notebook.

I need a good reference for Quality Thermal Tapes .. can someone suggest a few ?
A crazy question that just came to my mind ... have someone consider to change the cooler of the G51 with another with really high CFM ? i remember that i saw a 80mm Thermaltake cooler with 70 CFM Aprox. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
This should be enough for your needs. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sekisui-5760-Db...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a01b2f311
I have a whole roll sitting around if you want to buy strips for cheap.
I don't think anyone has changed the fan on the G51. You should be the first. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
If you do attempt that, Raiden, you can get this as a backup in case things don't work out.
Well, when it gets back into stock, that is.
Speaking of which, what thermaltake fan in particular were you looking at? -
-
About the fan i have to open it first and check what i have inside before touch anything, it could be a very advanced thing or perhaps an easy thing ... the ONLY problem i see is that the module doesn't have any screw, just a few rivets and they will be extremely difficult to remove without voiding the warranty ... having that extra module will be great. The problem is that we are the underworld ... this things are not very easy to get here at a good price ... imagine that if the cost of that module is of u$s 25, here its about 100. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Good luck with that. I will wait for you atop my mountain.
-
A) Thermaltake 2016 (taking that AWFUL blue led @ 21.6 - 72.5 CFM)
B) Thermaltake A1357 @ 20.55 CFM (1300 RPM) and 75.70 CFM @ 4800 RPM)
C) Titan TFD-A8025M12Z (RB) (Aluminum Body @ 38 CFM) -
The problem in Argentina is that at the moment you have to sell this notebook and you told the other one that the mod you make on it its for his OWN good and to protect the notebook, they don't understand it and because you void warranty they want an special price (some people ask you for u$s 100-200 less).
What is kind of frustrating is what you say before in another thread ... how some G51 users have so cool temps without even opening the notebook and another ones are left by asus to burn in hell with extreme high temps like my notebook .. it's supposed that you paid that amount of money to not have any problem.
The funniest thing is that if you call Asus and say . "Hey ! my notebook overheats more than usual" the callcenter boy will put that Mrs. Doubtfire voice and will say in a very peaceful tone "That is completely normal my dear ..." -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I think that's the general approach any average notebook buyer would take. Unless you have made a name for yourself, buyers would usually shun down at non-authorized modifications and voided warranties. I get that all the time too. Some people, most notably Apple users, say that my notebook is worth $500 less than it should be because I modded it, and there are more knowledgeable people, mainly science students and PC geeks at my school, that would pay more than what my notebook is worth because they know what the purpose of the mod is.
I hear you. The quality control in manufacturing a GPU is never perfect. For Clevo users, I know that there are a lot of people that rave about their cold GPU temps and that there are a lot of people that are complaining about their portable fireballs. I can even say the same about my own GPU, it may have been a hot potato before I armored it in copper.
I would tell any company to go shove it if they say anything over 90*C is normal. I once had an MLK about starting a small computer company based on Clevo barebones called Soviet Systems, kind of like K|N but with less Mark style p*ssyness and more down to Earth service and support. Everything would be done by the book and done right. No cutting corners or shady business. -
The main problem also is that notebooks are overpriced since SOME resellers paid taxes are others probably no, there is where the price makes difference.
I have a friend of mine who can get this notebook here for u$s 1150 .. but of course with no warranty, and the notebook out of the box since they pass it here like if the notebook was from him.
I've paid u$s 1550 for the notebook in sealed box, but for example .. if my next notebook is a Sager (the one with dual GTX 280M) i will try to buy them as price as low as possible since Sager don't have any warranty here .. Asus have warranty in Argentina but for the moment just for EEE PC.
I understand what you say about GPU Manufacturing .. but its not supposed that if the GPU overheats they'll have the obligation to check it ? or they cover their as*es saying that everything above 90º is normal ?
i need a dictionary to check for MLK .. what is it ? xD
And other thing ... do you have another recommendation for Thermal paste ? since i don't think they'll ever know Sekisui =( -
Hey raiden,
You don't have any freight forwarding company, like for example here i have one that says has all over latin america, called Transexpress, its just POBOX kinda thing where you have an address in the US, then they consolidate all shipments and take it to you country, this is how i buy all my stuff, since i also don't live in the US. They even bought me the ebay stuff that i couldnt get (the copper blocks, termal tape, even the icd7).
I just went to search some, and this is the info for argentina,
TRANS-EXPRESS ARGENTINA
Customer Service: 005411-4371-2428
Fax: 005411-4372-2771

Thanks for the information !
do you say they buy you things on ebay , newegg, bbuy, etc ... and they'll ship them to you ? how much over the real price they set to you (aprox) ?
-
-
Excellent =D thanks for the data ! i will call as soon as i get home. I think they will have to buy it for me since i can't make international buys with it.
-
-
Offtopic from the freight forwarding company topic ... in the back panel of my Asus there are 2 holes with screws that are signed with a "K" ... i think the measure of this 2 is different from the other ones since using the same screwdriver i couldnt take them off.
Someone know which is the screwdriver i need to use ? my father have the tool box in the car and he's not coming back until next week and i need to buy one =( -
those are Keyboard screws, and they came off just fine with the same screwdriver I used for the others.

This is MLK, a momentus American civil liberties leader. I was referencing to his 1963 "I have a dream" speech.
MX-2 is the paste I would recommend you. -
My mistake before .. i was meaning Thermal TAPE, not paste .. MX-2 is available here. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Hey, don't reveal my add-on accessories, haha.
Sekisui is the only true thermal tape. It pretty much monopolizes the thermal tape market as is it the only one of high quality. You might want to try 3M thermal tape as an alternative, but I don't recommend it. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_tr...nkw=3m+thermal+tape&_sacat=See-All-Categories -
i'll pray so for getting Sekisui =(
-
Looks like my copper sinks from hong kong and singapore are gonna take a while to get here. I went to tiger direct's outlet store today (it's pretty big, sort of a wannabe fry's but not nearly as good) and hoped to find some good thermal paste and maybe low profile fan + sinks but no luck. Least I got to enjoy the great Florida 5 o' clock traffic.

I got to enjoy the ever notorious San Francisco microclimate. It was sunny in the morning and storming in the afternoon. Guess who got soaked.
-
Yo...question from a noob here!!
For copper-modding the G51, are there any specific tools/guides on how it's done? -
For copper modding you should only really need some 300+ grit sandpaper, the blocks, and the tape.

Forge, can you tell me the type of screwdriver you used for open the notebook ? as i told before i have one that take out easily the other screws but doesn't fit in the ones marked with a "K"
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I used the same screwdriver for all the bottom panel screws.
-
I caved and bought the NC2000B. I like to game on my lap while chilling in bed so this thing will come in very useful. It gets here on Thursday so I'll post temps with it + the big hole on the bottom and see if it improves the cooling (I'm guessing it will).
-
size maybe or type ?
Don't kill me .. i dont want to buy a whole set of screwdrivers .. just that to open the NB xD -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Raiden, I really don't know. The screws should all be the same. Is the one you used too small or too big for the K screws?
And I could've considered selling you my NC2000, if it suited your purposes. I really don't need it.
Anyway, since you did, the cooler will of course improve temperatures, but a drilled-out bottom-panel will be even better, since there are more areas for air influx. -
i think the point of the screwdriver is to tall to fit correctly in the hole of the screw and when i spin it it goes out of the screw hole.
This sounds stupid, but if damage that screw i couldn't open it again since there's no way to take it out from there. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
-
The hole is working out pretty good right now. It's just that I'm stuck waiting on finishing the mod since none of the stuff I need is here yet. The Zalman will be a good hold over until I can get all the supplies to finish the mod. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Still, you have betrayed us.
-
While copperblocks/undervolting/paste/extra vents would give the best results, i dont see the downside of active cooling, probably only extra weight of it, but i already carry mouspad, nostromo, external mic, mx518, outlet strip, Senn 280, so i really dont mind bringing the cooler with me for gaming. I can bearly imagine what would my cryo is gona do without the bottom with all copperblocks (im just gona try it once just to see). Active>Passive almost always, although dont mean more efficient investment, but still would net better temps.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
It's just that Joker said he wasn't going to buy it, yet he did. If I had done my mods before buying the cooler, I wouldn't have bought it. I wouldn't have had need for it.

He wants to overclock his Asus to the depths of hell to give him reason to invest in a Clevo. He's turning into a benchmarker. Hearing him break 13k makes the dormant overclocker inside me want to go back and try to break 15k.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Don't you dare.
-
, mmmmmm, Sandpaper, i never been into laping. I was just gona clean it with artic kit and stick them, you guys think its worth sanding the copperblocks and the pipes?
-
hmmm, i was thinking instead of leaving an ugly hole, to replace it with an aluminum grill (not those that are like an star) ..i mean something made of pure alu .. probably the air that will enter in that fan can be cooled 1 or 2º more.
Take this just as an example of the holes, discard that logo -.-'.
1,5 mm of thickness and it would work great. -
You guys nailed it. My goal is to OC this Asus to hell and back and that 13k+ will definitely be mine one way or another. I took that drive to tigerdirect earlier because I was searching for some ultra low profile fans to stick over the GPU. I found a pair that were almost thin enough to fit with some pretty decent CFM but unfortunately they used 12v molex connectors. I could've ordered Y splitters to covert them to 4 pin or just cut them myself but that's too much hassle. I'll find something online that fits instead.
I think the mesh Abula and I ordered should work out nicely for now. I do plan to maybe order another panel and do a nicer job cutting out the hole since this one was done in haste.
Near term goal: Hole + active cooling from zalman + GPU overvolt to hit 13k. After that, add on copper mods, ic7/mx3/shin etsu (which ever I can get), active cooling inside the panel and then break 13k without the zalman. Oh yeah Soviet, you know I'm going to get a Clevo sooner than later. I'm just waiting to see what nVidia does with fermi. If ATi beats them to the punch with a 5k series GPU that is offered in a Sager, I'll be on the pre-order list. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The ATi 5 series will not be out until later in 2010. I will be skipping Clarksfield and the mobile GT200 as well and will sit on my *ss for mobile Fermi and Sandy Bridge. Even if ATi releases a competitor to Fermi that outruns it, I will forever be an Nvidia supporter, despite my first notebook having the old M10 Radeon 9600 Pro. Nevertheless, I think Nvidia is putting a lot of money into R&D for Fermi and is going to be their trump card for getting back into the market after ATi has this round like they did back in the 9xxx series.
-
Well i probably wont change this laptop for at least a year or two, not that i cant, but it plays everything fine, and since WOW is my most spending time on it, and seeing Catalyst expansion on the horizon, probably only other titles i might play is COD:MW6 and SC2, i doubt they gonna put the G51 down, so probably ill wait 2 more gen of video on laptops to swap, unless the g51 melts. But im so waiting for a GTX380
for my desktop. But one thing is clear to me, im gona start saving for when i upgrade the laptop to be probably a clevo, unless Asus redesign the G5X/G7X, to have dual cooler instead of dual hard drives.

Trying to overvolt my P8700 on G50VT.. I would of PM'ed you but I'm a newbie and hence I can't PM, or something. -
1.350 I believe is stock for the X9100.
