How do you actually do that? The same exact thing happened to me -- a router was $10 cheaper. I sent them two messages (one follow-up) several days apart via their message system, but never got a reply.

Hey guys, I'm not trying to thread jump but I've been reading this thread for a while trying to help me decide on a gaming laptop as well? I have a gateway fx 7850u now and want an upgrade!! I do lots of gaming and business stuff, I'd like this to be able to take over for my desktop in s sense? My brother in law has the Asus G73 and is steering me toward that or G74? My brain hurts with all this! I have just under 2000.00 to spend at most if necessary! I Aldo have lots of apple products I'd lime this to link well with. I've heard about falcon, sager, Asus, alienware. I've heard the 6750 is better that the 560 but that's just from reading through here. I'd like a blueray player if possible as well, is it worth the jump from the G73 to the G74 or is there something else out there that would be better? I'd really like to stay away from customizing if possible, just something I can order and be good to go! Thanks guys!!!

Get the Alienware M17xR3. I've owned ASUS G72 and G73 and now the M17xR3. From a feature/performance perspective the Alienware is a much better value and considerably easier to upgrade/re-paste, etc. It is louder when playing an intense game but features like Mini-displayport out and HDMI in (using the laptop as a display for another computer or gaming console) are nice added bonuses to the powerful GPU choices like the AMD 6990 and nVidia 580m.

Also, there are many ways to get good discounts. Watch for sales, call the Dell rep and haggle, find a friend in the military and get 25% off, etc... Used and refurbished R3s can be had as well. Just stay away from the nvidia 460 version. Lots of issues with those.

    Cheers,

So the Mx 17 has hdmi in and out? Is there an exact one if the Mx I could get or do I have to customize stuff? Dies the Mx use 2 different video cards? I saw u stated 6990 or 580m

Video card options change over time but the current options are and 6870,6970,6990 and nvidia 560 & 580.

You can buy one from best buy with a decent configuration or build ur own at alienware.com

    Alienware - M17X Laptop / Intel® Core™ i7 Processor / 17.3" Display / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Stealth Black - AM17XR3-5542STB - Best Buy

Get the 4gb ram and smallest hard drive as these are easy to upgrade on your own for less $$ if you decide to build ur own.

Yes, the m17xR3 has in and out HDMI ports. It is a very versitile machine. If u want bluray u should order it with it since the only difficult component to replace is the odd.

    Cheers,

I know. After owning a G50, upgrading to G72 BB and then G72 A1 and then G73 BB and ultimately G73 X2 I was really torn about leaving ASUS since I really didn't have too much trouble.

Ultimately it was the ease of upgrading, higher end GPUs and feature/functionality of the Alienware that motivated me to move.

Good luck making up your mind and remember if you choose Alienware, create a account to save your cart and call the Dell sales rep to try and talk them down. It's worked many times.

    Cheers,

Thanks for your opinion! If I went with alienware is there a specific Mosel I would get or would I need to build it? Is there anything specific you would suggest? I've never built one before? What about falcon?
