SC2 worked fine for me on 9.12 and 10.1 either way like you said its fixed for most.

Wait, Lyle, you are still having GSOD's WITH the new vBios?
-
Updated last night, no GSOD's yet, but I ran a few benchmarks and noticed a substantial performance hit. It was mostly noticeable in 3DMark06. My scores dropped by over 600 points.
I also notice that the GPU frequency would drop to 405 when in 2d mode, and then go back to 700 in apps, memory stayed the same. While the core speed drop was nice, it did not provide any temperature drop. Mine still idles around 62-65C with ambient temps around 75F. -
3dmark06 (when are people going to stop using this..? it was designed for machines made in... 06) does not force the clocks back to their stock 700 speed, you are essentially benching it on 2d mode.
For people who are claiming to have a performance hit - can you try turning off powerplay (it's in CCC if you are running 10.8) or at least checking that it is set to max performance on AC?
@ people saying 'I paid $xx I want perfection'... ALL new tech has quirks and bugs to sort out, regardless of price. iPhone4/macs? Alienwares? Clevos? Even business class stuff has the occasional bug. These forums probably wouldn't exist (or at least be terribly inactive) if everything was magically perfect out of box. -
Use whatever bunchmark you prefer, 06 is still very much in use, so what if you don't like it.
I've tried a couple ways. Forcing clocks back to stock by turning off power play(which was already set to performance), and then forcing them to stock via AMD tool, both still yields same results.
using beta vbios and 10.8 -
Lyle, you still appear to have glazed over the question- have you used the new vBios yet?
You'd be the first person here to get a GSOD using it from what I can tell, if you have updated. -
But I may also have a faulty card. -
You may want to reflash with the new vBios and see if anything changes, just be sure. -
what happened to my posts?
-
Asus repair already flashing the new video BIOS? If so, that's really amazing work by Gary and Asus...but I am extremely skeptical.
I personally would have tried the vBIOS beta before sending it in again, but that's just me
*edit* I see they told you they updated the vBIOS, so... really amazing work by Gary and Asus! -
EDIT:
My 600th post! -
Since we have lots of parallel discussions running, I`m back to report more results.
Config: CCC 10.8, vBIOS from the first post and BIOS 211 from Asus site.
The result temps were lower and I didn`t notice performance changes against my old *almost* anti-GSOD combination CCC 1.7a, BIOS 209, stock vBIO and GPU OverClock 705/1110.
With the help of 2 yonger cousins, my g73 played perfectly Starcraft II, LostPlanet and NeverWinter Nights for 18 hours!!
Since I had many GSODs before this topic, so far I do recommend this update. It works!
All the best,
Thiago -

I tried it with:
PowerPlay on, Maximum Performance
PowerPlay off, unchecked
AMD Tool, set to 705/1000
I use to get around 12,600 - 12,800 scores in 3DMark06, but now I'm getting 11,800 - 12,200
Thankfully no GSOD's yet, but somewhat degraded performance. -
why are you overclocking to 705/1000? To match your original settings? Shouldn't it be 705/1100?
also, turn off monitors. -
Also, anything that was running in the background had been shut off. That includes AMD GPU tool, antivirus, etc.
I'm also getting something else, it's like a lag spike/glitch. It appears sometimes as 2-3 horizontal white lines through the screen, like artifacts, with a pause, but then just continues. Other times it's just a pause. Happens periodically while playing CODMW2 and BFBC2 -
So... Chastity convinced me to abandon my conservative approach to updates in order to bring my G73 current. I downloaded BIOS 211 and the vBIOS package posted by the OP. Created the bootable USB memory stick (copied the BIOS and vBIOS files to the root of the memory stick) and downloaded the ATI 10.8 64bit drivers.
Booted into setup and upgraded to BIOS 211.
Powered off
Restarted Windows 7 just to make sure everything still worked.
Powered off
Booted from USB memory stick.
Ran the vflash.bat file.
Restarted per the onscreen instructions
Started Windows 7
Installed ATI 10.8 over 10.6
Checked GPU Tool and noticed GPU was at 450/1000
Rebooted
Started Windows 7
Ran the Company of Heroes Graphics test. No glitches, no hangs (tho it never has)
Verified BIOS, vBIOS and drivers are up to date.
Checked GPU Tool; GPU was at 704.5/1100 (since I still have that running at startup)
All appears well so far. I will play a few hours of games this weekend to make sure it's just as stable as it's always been. I will then take out the AMD GPU Tool from startup and see if it stays stable.
I did notice GPU-z now populated the GPU info and temps correctly which has never worked.
Perhaps someday I'll fiddle with the audio (mine works w/o bass boost on) updates but for now I've strayed far enough outside my comfort zone for the foreseeable future.
Other than creating the bootable USB stick I think the GPU update process is fairly simple and perhaps most average users could handle this update.
Even though I never would encourage it and would most likely have stayed with my working settings (along with a legion of oblivious consumers) had I not been gently nudged, I must thank the many folks @ this forum and ASUS development who committed so much time and effort to testing, tweaking and otherwise wringing every bit of potential out of the G73 and pushing to get these issues resolved.
Gary, Chastity, ziddy, and even the ever annoying hellcrydeserve much thanks from a grateful G73 nation. I'm sure I forgot someone but you know who you are.
Cheers, -
\m/ Rock on panzer.
Do note though, that the AMD GPU Clock tool may conflict with ATI's Overdrive. (if you have it enabled that is) -
BTW. I have no performance drop with new vbios. -
Update complete:
BIOS 206 to 211
vBIOS update mentioned here
Clean ATI 10.8 (via 1 Mb AMD utility -> note the Full installer somehow didn't worked error: ati catalyst cannot be started because the ... GPU is not supported...
The 1 Mb AMD util which download the right one worked fine.
Looks good so far, 10min BFBC 2 and also Ubuntu look fine, which had before the GSOD.
Thanks Gary and ASUS, also this shouldn't happen at all, neither take so long -
Updated bios, Gary's vbios and everything went smoothly.
Powerplay seems to work OK except for the stuttering that everyone's been reporting.
Not a single GSOD since the updates, however 10.8 doesn't like one of my games so I have to go back to 10.7, but that's not really Asus's fault, isn't it?
Kudos to Gary and ASUS for getting the GSOD problem fixed. -
So more people are noticing this stuttering/short freezing on the new vBios, not just me...
I took some time and flashed to MSI and played DDO for 3 hours and SC2 for 1,5 hours and it didnt stutter even once. Went back to the new Asus beta vBios and got 2 stutters in the first hour of DDO...
Its completely repeatable so im still convinced its related to the vBios (or the beta vBios + Bios combination, but the 211 doesnt bother the MSI vBios...).
Gary can you please tell us what exactly was changed in the new vBios so we can get a better idea of this? -
aren't u on 209? That might be the problem as this update is recommended for 211..
-
No, i went to 211 a few days ago (actually now that i think about it about the time i got the new vBios) since i want to thoroughly test if the fan profiles will impact any of my gaming temperatures (and listening to when the fans turn up). And many people are fine on 209... I really wonder if 211+new vBios is the problem but i dont have time to reflash yet... I also repeat, that i usually get this very rarely and it laggs/stutters just for a second or two max and it happens in DDO mostly (and its not internet latency, its completely different, it literally freezes up for that second).
-
Just want to make it clear that I didn't encounter the stuttering quite often. So far, only force unleashed that gave me the stuttering at the start of every level.
-
No stuttering so far here too, 211+new vbios
-
no problem for me, bios 209 + chastity overdrive vbios
-
Got her setup yesterday. Fresh Win7 64 Ultimate, Windows Updated drivers, flashed Bios+vBios, Intel INF drivers, installed 10.7 Beta pack, installed 10.8, realtek drivers + creative. Installed Vantage and pulled an P8290 and then loaded up Steam for a good 2hr TF2 bout with a friend. Laptop performing as expected.
Got 1 BSOD. Something to do with NDIS.sys or something when I first finished up the Win7 Install and started downloading stuff. Think it was from the Atheros stock wifi driver that comes with Windows. After all the updates and such have not seen that again.
I did notice how out of the box bloatware and all, the laptop ran furmark like absolute crap. Had a "pause" of sorts every other second or so. -
I does that with the 10.1 drivers, at least in my case.
-
No pauses or glitches to report here, been using 209+gary's vbios+10.8 since a day after he posted it. Ok, one minor glitch, I had to install that cryptic win7 hotfix after windows decided it wanted to freeze while on a website. I only gave it the chance to freeze once though so it might not have even been necessary...

ATTENTION STUTTERERS:
Please grab a copy of DPC Latency Tool and let's see what your results are plx, kthxbai. -
Is anyone else getting mouse lag in games like COD and SC2 after updating the vbios, bios 211 and 10.8 drivers?
-
-
Interesting. These are my results with DPC Latency.
I get micro-stuttering in COD4 and FIFA10.
As predicted, the "Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)" is to blame. The yellow spike was when it was enabled. Disabled, the latency issues went bye bye.
So this means I have to game wirelessly? -
-
I notice some micro-freezing in furmark if i disable twinturbo mode (even disabling atheros LAN):
YouTube - twinturbo ON - twinturbo OFF.wmv -
Is there a compelling reason to try out this hotfix other then the remarks below...or is it desktop only?
GPU-77: ATI Catalyst? 10.8b Hotfix
ATI Catalyst 10.8b Hotfix Features:
■ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 X2 and ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2 use both Graphics Processing Units (GPU) for high performance
■Ubisoft H.A.W.X with forced on Anisotropic Filtering (AF) using ATI Catalyst Control Center can improve performance for all graphics cards that support Microsoft DirectX® 10 (ATI Radeon HD 3xxx, ATI Radeon HD 4xxx and ATI Radeon HD 5xxx series of products) -
-
I  their hotfix packages... everything all in one installer! downloading now
-
Just played 3 hours of SC2, Company of Heroes and TQIT. No glitches, artifacts, pauses, lag or any disruption of play. Temps never exceeded 75C with fans 30-50% sitting on a large cooler.
BIOS 211, Gary's Beta vBIOS, 10.8 ATI drivers, Clocked 705/1100.
Perhaps some of these systems were in the early runs or there is a unique combination of software on the systems that are having that momentary pause.
Cheers, -
reporting back on some things I noticed after having some time to play with the new vBios.
Just about everything I could test works fine i.e. hdmi out, furmark, sc2, etc...
BUT I did notice it start to artifact in the Unigine Heaven benchmark and recover a second or two later. My temps were not out of the ordinary and my benchmark scores weren't any different from before. I don't know if this is a driver problem or a problem with the vBios. But I'm lovin it so far! -

Cheers, -
Ic diamond free samples for portugal...We deserve it too

hi there i new here and i am noob with all this stuff lol, i wanna update my vbio and i found some walkthrough on how to set up a bootable USB i follow all the step but when i go to boot tab in the bio option 1 i cannot find my usb name, and how to find out whether i flash to the newest vbio can someone enlighten me pls thank you very much
-
Hooray issue has been fixed! I thought i needed a repaste to play games! Thank you so much ASUS, beta testers and especially Gary and Chastity!
BIOS v 211
vBIOS Latest with OD unlocked thanks to Chastity
Catalyst 10.8 (was a butch to install correctly, tinkered with it for around 4 hours before i got it to work)
Idling temps are actually around 5-8 degrees lower than before the updates from cat 10.3, stock vbios and bios v209. Maybe due to the lower clocks i have atm? 405 engine, 1000 mem.
Thanks again! -
how do i know what version of vbios i have installed? Just got myne from rma
-
You can see it in your BIOS setup screen, or better still, you can use GPU-Z to check.
-
Open up GPU-z.
The newest beta vBios is BIOS Version 012.020.000.032.038352.
