I'm a little out of the loop on this...so has ANYBODY AT ALL had a GSOD with the new vBIOS?
-
it came with beta vbios not the final vbios!
-
95% of people have not Gsoded.
-
Played an hour of Dragon's Age with everything on high and it played nice and smooth. No stuttering.
-
10.7a works flawlessly here and with better peformance than 10.8. The temperatures did rise 2C on this driver but thats really not concerning.
-
hi guys,
i didn't want to open a new thread, so i post it here.
my g73 works fine with stock drivers and bios 206 with every game i played, except splinter cell conviction. it crashes, freezes with a brown screen sometimes. with catalyst 10.7a&10.8 i got GSOD with starcraft 2 at the login screen. now i want to update my bios and vbios tomorrow. my gpu temps are fine btw.
i have some questions now:
-which bios should i flash? 209 or 211? i've read some people had problems with 211 and the new vbios...
-is the modified vbios from chasitiy as stable as the original? and do i void my warranty with the modified vbios?
-are other tools necessary to flash my bios or is the flash tool in the bios?
-which catalyst should i use?
-will the HDMI/VGA port work with the new catalysts after unistalling the stock drivers and cleaning with drive sweeper?
i want to be sure what i install. im just not the kind of person who flash something unprepared. i never flashed a bios or vbios, but i'm not a total noob in flashing (i've flashed 2wii's and a psp successfully
). i dont want to RMA it if something goes wrong.
Thanks for your help in advance
and sorry for my bad english
-
Choose either 209 (if you want the fans to stay silenter for longer) or 211 (if you want them to spin up faster).
There is no warranty for a modified vBios if they find out you flashed one. Chastitys vBios is stable, but you will probably get screen flicker every time you will go from AC to battery and back and every time you will play a video on battery, but you will get lower temperatures running it on battery and overdrive, but a reminder its still not fully functional, since only the core clock then downclocks with powerplay and the memory stays overclocked all the time.
The ezflash is in bios, just put the bios file on a usb stick, run ezflash and point it to the new bios file.
Id recommend 10.7a, since it gives better performance than 10.8 (and i had some trouble with 10.8 - occasional stutters in DDO).
If you have realtek HDMI installed, the HDMI will work on the new drivers too after you do a sweep with driver sweeper and the VGA will work in any case. -
thank you for the fast reply
i guess i take bios 209 and gary's vbios. i don't want to void my warranty and the screen flickering thing doesn't sound good...
i'll post tomorrow if i flashed successfully. i've got a nice guide with all steps and i think (or hope) nothing will brick. -
Interesting that the MSI vBIOS seems OK with the 10.8 on yours, while the new Asus Beta vBIOS occasionally stutters for you. I haven't flashed mine yet but I'm considering the 209 + Gary's combo. Haven't decided on driver. Right now I'm running 10.6
Also are you saying to install the 10.7a, and then the Realtek HDMI afterwards? Does it make a difference what order? I've always been confused about the whole realtek HDMI thing, and how it works with ATI. I always assumed that the ATI driver had everything needed for HDMI built-in. -
whats the review with 10.8a
-
The order doesnt matter. Ive had Realtek 2.49 HDMI installed forever and i just change drivers (and dont install ATI HDMI) and HDMI always works fine like that.
-
I think you meant 10.8b?
Anyway the 10.8a or 10.8b are both focused on fixing issues for X2 and crossfire cards users...
You can find 10.8b with the hotfix description HERE, but theres really nothing in there to benefit us G73JH users... -
Ohh the Hotfix for us X2 users is out. Gota try that when I get home.
-
I believe that Ubisoft H.A.W.X 2 is benefic for everyone including ati 5870hd
-
thanks you very much for those who ans my question ^ ^
what about this [when i go to boot tab in the bio option 1 i cannot find my usb name ]? any1. or i make a mistake when i set up a bootable USB -
go to save/exit tab, u will see it there.
-
That's what it's called on the Realtek site, "ATI HDMI Audio Device 2.49". I assume you mean we *should* use this, and then just install the ATI Catalyst drivers as usual.
-
Yes thats the HDMI driver i was talking about. This one should work with any ATI driver, just make sure you dont install the HDMI driver from ATI (from the stock 10.1 Asus driver package, becouse you could get a conflict between the two than).
-
No need to enter bios and change boot settings there to flash the vBios. Just keep pressing ESC when you boot up the laptop and a boot selection menu will pop up and your USB should be in there to choose from.

like me

Well, I've installed this, and 10.8, but I GSODed 10 minutes into playing Minecraft. It didn't overheat, I checked.
EDIT: I'm running at 800/1100, would that change anything? -
Yes. When I ran at 800/1100 and up on SCII I'd get frequent artifacts and GSODs. At 750/1100 and below I'm fine, not a single GSOD.
-
Hrm, I just ran FurMark for 10 minutes on 800/1100 and nothing. I did lift up my laptop a bit when it hit 106C, but I doubt Minecraft is exerting the same amount of pressure on the GPU as FurMark.
-
Lucky. Mine crashes shortly in to Vantage or Furmark at anything above 790 Core.
-
I can run furmark for 2 hours at 825 without a crash, so I'm as unsure as you about why we can't game at those settings.
-
Confirmed, running at 800/1100 with new vBios and 10.8 gave me GSOD on Mafia II.
-
I've never been able to stably game on 800/1100 clocks. Old and new vBios.
780 is the highest I can go. They say all cards are made different. The lucky ones get to do 800/1100.
The real question is whether you used to be able to 800/1100 on the old vBios and can't on the new one. -
I could use this clocks on old vBios w/o any problems but not on new one.
-
Same thing here.
-
Same, I frequently bumped it up to 825/1100 for the FFXIV Beta. Not a single GSOD, but it GSODs within minutes at those settings now. I'm not furious about it or anything, especially since 700/1100 seems perfectly stable and the Overdrive support isn't even official yet.
-
hi guys,
when i wanted to change the Boot option 1, i couldn't find the flash Drive as an option. i tried to create it, but it asked for a path.

-
The command to reboot in dos is ctr+alt+delete.
-
bios209 + gary's vbios and catalyst 10.8 is now installed - no gsod in starcraft 2, but it's very laggy. AC2 runs still fine.
-
Try 10.7, I had several issues with 10.8.
-
Hey guys I've been trying to flash the vBios all day. However, every single time I try to boot up with the USB drive, I get a big grey screen with the words "g system" in the top left corner of the screen. I am unable to do anything on this screen except for ctrl+alt+del to restart the lappy to switch the boot order again. WHAT DO?
-
I gsoded while playing my ps2 emulator but 5 seconds later, it recovered itself.
-
Youre not going to believe this...
Im back on the newest beta vBios from Gary (battery clocks on my modded one were too low to do anything graphics intensive unplugged so i decided to stop using it) and playing SC2 today for around two hours i got the first, classic grey GSOD on it.
Im really too tired to go troubleshooting this again... how i wish i could get a JW replacement right now... -
Are you using the Overdrive function? A few pages ago we found that using Overdrive past 800 causes GSODs with the beta vBios (and artifacts in my case). I was able to run at 825/1100 with no problem before I upgraded.
As an aside: I'd challenge you to a match in SC2, but I just got it last week, so I'm still in that "pretty horrible bronze leaguer" stage.
-
So I've tried to use 2 flash drives now as bootable flash drives. I use the program to format the drive, then extract the files to the flash drive. I shut down the system and hit delete to enter the bios. I go over to BIOS, and go to the first option, it gives me 2 options, the first is my hard drive, and the second appears to be my Blue ray player... Have I done it wrong? Do some flash drives not work? I've tried using the fast format and the slow one, either don't seem to do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
It's been answered several times in this thread. In the BIOS screen move over to the "Save & Exit" tab and your USB should be listed there as a boot device, select it and boot from it.
-
ok using chasity's one , i'm getting 4 files in my bootable disk..
ATI flash
BR38352.001
V flash
fixod.rom..
gary's one only has the first 3.. do i need the 4th one? I don't want to brick my G73. -
Im using it on stock clocks - i said before im using the stock Garys version, and that one does not have overdrive unlocked.
I only play SC2 for fun... I dont have the swiftness to use micros so fast as i used to so i wouldnt be such a hardcore opponent
.
Im going to try to push for a JW exchange with the two issues that i cant get completely solved; GSODs and keyboard missing keystrokes. I just dont have the will to keep trying with the JH anymore. -
Hell cry , any idea about my above question? I'm not sure and don't want to brick my G73.
-
Lol, you're sticking with the G73s. Way to go Mr Clevo.
@sean
The .bats point to which vbios to flash. Doesn't matter how many files you have on your usb. -

You just havent been listening. I cant sell it without a big loss and there are some complications when its company owned otherwise id have sold it long ago and got a w8x0cu. I told you that a few times already.
And it cant hurt to try. Either i get a JW or ill leave my laptop with the techs as many times as i have to until i get a working system back. All i mean by im not trying anymore is im not going to waste my time trying to solve it myself anymore. -
Was just ribbin' ya.
-
Gotcha, I just wasn't sure if you'd just kept Overdrive unlocked while reverting back to Gary's clock settings.
Sorry that you're having so much trouble with the JH, I hope the JW works well for you.
