I want to report that I had suscessusing the bios 211 this VBios Update. Chastity and Garry have done a wonderful job finding and fixing the GSOD Blues. Can the two updates be done in one session? All on one USB drive?
A few comments.
I did not find my USB drive in Bios to add as a boot priority after hitting delete to get to bios, but hitting the escape key during boot triggered window to a select bood device.
Two request,
1) Would someone please summarize the difference purpose and use of Chastity's VBios.
2) If there is a link to the lastest status for the missing keystrokes and possibly a fix.. I am turning off the touch pad using a setting in windows 7 that notices I have a mouse plugged in and disables it.
I dot get the turning off in bios and removal of the driver but then the touch pad still works. Can anyone summarize. this workaround? What do I lose?
-
The difference with my release and Gary's Official Unofficial vBIOS, is that my vBIOS enables the OverDrive feature in CCC, and changes the battery idle speeds from 300/1000 to 250/500.
This would provide an easy means to overclock should you desire. -
Probably was someone's "elite leak" and they're peddling it around. Also, I haven't seen this GSOD Fix announced anywhere else, except on Guru3D, where I posted about it.
-
Do the different vBios versions change OC ability any? Not in terms of OD but more in you can get a higher OC with 1 more than another?
-
dunno. some say the chips they have don't overclock as well. I can still do 800/1100.
-
My first one on the new vbios hit 780/1080.
This new one can barely do 740/1040 lol.
Wonder if it was a build version difference. The first one did GSOD when I pushed it to far, this one has yet to do any GSOD but more on the lines of artifacting and such. It can run at 790/1100 but it doesn't look pretty. -
Welll I have one GSOD and after this "DRIVER STOPPED RESPONSAD" with CrysisWARHEAD.
Thermal Sensors mark 73,5 ºC.
I will check driver update Crysis....... -
Are you using 211 bios?
-
Hmm.. since it has been posted, i've been trying to flash my vbios, but I can't seem to get it to boot from the USB drive. I've tried pressing ESC during the ASUS logo method and also the bios setup method. Both methods just give me a black screen with a blinking white line in the top left corner.
I'm not sure what I did wrong, i've tried quick format and regular format using the HP USB tool with the boot files in FAT32.
Thanks -
It's possible that you downloaded corrupted boot files or something... command.com's MD5 check gives me b067cc477e113932e0a997e9d5e4319d
Try downloading from http://pcaudio.org/stuff/win98boot.zip -
hmm did you typed VFlash ?
-
I'm almost positive that it was not corrupted because everyone else has been using it to make a bootable USB drive if i'm correct (It's the one in the first post by Gary)
And no I cannot type anything, it's just a blinking white line. -
i will tell you what i did to update vbios
1. Formatted pen drive to Fat32 using window
2. made bootable pen drive using HP(i didn't selected quick format only make bootable option selected boot folder provided by gary . it took around 3min to complete after that i shutdown my laptop
3. inserted my pendrive in front left slot of USB and turned it ON
4. kept pressing esc key then it gave me option of selecting . i selected my pendrive and after getting option of typing i typed VFlash after few sec it said restart . instead i switched it off waited for 10sec and then turned it ON volla
one more thing i used original gary bios not any other -
Try, try again. That "error" occurs when you're trying to boot off something that isn't bootable.

Hey all,
New user here, obviously
I have an ASUS G73JH, and I've been struggling ith the GSOD with Final Fantasy XIV ever since purchasing the laptop from Best Buy.
I would really like to fix it, but before I do the stuff posted in the first page, I wanted to make sure I understood. Both the topic creator and another user posted downloads to updates. Am I correct in assuming I just need to follow the steps outlined in the original post in order to perform all of the updates?
I just want to make sure I do just what was listed on the original post and not do something that was assumed you'd also do, as this will my first time flashing the bios on a laptop.
I really just want to be able to play FF14, as that's the whole reason why I bought this thing.
Thanks, and sorry for being such a newbie! -
The orginal post contains instructions and a vbios from Gary (an Asus rep). The other download you are talking about is likely a forum user who tweaked what Gary posted and re-posted it.
Personally if you feel you are not very comfortable performing this flash I would recommend you hold off until it gets officially released. However if you do decide to proceed I would go with the download and instructions from Gary's thread. If you hose your machine though be prepared to RMA it. -
Thanks for the quick reply, Tiscan. When it gets "Officially" released, it will be installed differently, I assume? For all means and purposes, I'm not in a major rush, as I have a desktop which can play the game just fine. I just want it to work on the laptop, as I bring it to work sometimes
hehe
So if the official release is quick, easy and safe to install, I'm fine waiting. Just wasn't sure how these things normally get installed. I'm not a complete noob around computers, but I'm more of a software application guy and less of a hardware tweaking one.
Thanks! -
The safest way to update any BIOS/vBIOS is this exact same way. Via a bootable flashdrive.
There isn't any difference in the updating method regardless of the officiality of the release. -
Ah, I see. So I'd be following those steps above, anyway. That's good to know. Well, as long as people are seeing success with it, I think I'll give it a shot. I only have the one program really installed on this machine anyway, so if it has to be RMA'd, then it has to be RMA'd.
I don't want to have to live with GSODs forever. -
The vBIOS will never get officially released on Asus' servers. You would have to RMA it, or use the package supplied here.
-
To Chastity: how do you know Asus won't upload the vbios the its server? Gary told you? See ya! cheers!
-
So basically, I should try other thumb drives?
-
Yes, I got that info from Gary, and I do remember posting that on another thread.
-
any updates from garry on touchpad issues?
-
So I configured a thumb drive as suggested in the original post and put the three files in it. Before actually jumping in and giving it a shot, I noticed this line quoted above, and I'm not sure what I need to do to ensure I'm running bios 0211.
Will booting to this thumb drive and running the .exe, as outlined in the original post, be all I need to do for this fix, or do I need to do something else with this bios 0211?
Thanks
Edit: I was running 2.09, so now I'm running 2.11. So here I go... -
Yes G73Jh.211 with catalyst 10.8
-
I'm getting this exact problem, and have tried all of the fixes recommended by those who have responded to your posts with no success. Did you ever figure out a fix to this? I first flashed with the OP's .bat file, then I tried with Chastity's OD version. No joy.
When I try to load he CCC to change my resolution from 800x600, I get the following message: "ATI Catalyst Control Center cannot be started because the currently active GPU is not supported."
When I go into the Device manager, all it shows under display adapter is "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". Scanning for hardware changes does no good either.
Now I'm worse off than I was before since I'm stuck in 800x600 res. Any help is appreciated. -
I had this happen once. I did a full uninstall of all things ATI, driver sweep + CCleaner Reg clean, then installed 10.1 package. I then upgraded from there to whatever I wanted. Only had to do this once.
-
I have never used CCleaner, but I always use Driver Sweep on safe mode reboot. Are 10.1 drivers available for download still?
Is it possible something didn't go correctly with the vBios flashing? -
No, some legacy crap is fuxxing up your driver installation
-
Hi! HellCry and Chastity.
Thank you to have checked quickly the vbios I’ve linked. In the French Forum, peoples who have tried it have experienced again GSOD and others… So I’m going right now telling them that they still have a chance to solve their problems with Gary’s vbios!
So I’m more & more confused with this story of vbios… It means that if it is the old Beta and the date is earliest, that they are still experimenting new fix for the G73jh ati bios. This guy sends his query few weeks after Gary's vbios realized.
In addition ATI/AMD have said that they hope to realized a driver for mobility cards for the next update. So we will not have 10.9 catalyst/driver for mobility but maybe with luck we will have the 10.10?
No problem I can wait.
But it seems for me that ATI/AMD has recognized that they have a problem on their drivers for mobility! So maybe soon (at least for the next mobility driver) we will have a powerful end stable driver/hd5870 on our G73? -
The current Vbios fixed is marked as a Beta right? Is there supposed to be a final Vbios released to us in a near future? or its case closed ?
-
No more updates for mob. 5870 vBios from Asus, period.
They also wont upload the beta vBios as official on their support site. -
I haven't waded through this entire thread past like page 50, but that seems extremely odd, because in the original post Gary specifically states that we should wait until it is officially released on the support site if we are not comfortable:
Just saying Gary may want to edit his OP to show that they are no longer going to truly release an "Official" version. -
IIRC, the Support Services and Engineering have long been against releasing those kind of updates (GPU and keyboard fix for example) because they feel the public doesn't know what they are doing.
@Yuna44: Here's a quick review of the vBIOS History:
HYN vBIOS is an alpha vBIOS
SAM vBIOS is first Beta
v93 vBIOS is 2nd beta, and now is bumped to final -
Hello everybody... there's a lot o people here that seem to know what they are talking about, so here's a question A LITTLE BIT OUT OF CONTEXT: The Ati 5870 (G73JH) is far better than the Geforce 460 (G73JW)... is this right? Asus is releasing the successor of the G73JH with an inferior video card???? Please help me because I think there is something I'm missing here. bye !!!
-
Everything I've read says while on paper that is true in practice the performance in G73 is comparable for most games.
Cheers, -
Yes the 5870 is slightly better than the 460, the JW just comes with Wireless HD, USB 3.0, better touchpad and EAX 5.0

I think that Support Services and Engineering have a too high regard of themselves. They are the direct boss of the RMA departments which are worldwide filled with inferior technical people. They usually follow instructions issued by their parent department which is Support Services and Engineering. So in short; Support Services and Engineering is an inadequate department.
Asus should have developed a laptop that worked as advertised from the word GO. A lot of people buying these expensive laptops are usually technically savvy so they can handle this kind of stuff.
My negative reviews on 2 large Dutch computer news sites are still negative because the issue of paste is still not resolved. -
Wireless HDMI was removed.
-
Ok. Updated the vbios using chastity's version with the OD fix. Went great. Did the BIOS 211 as well and all went well. Now when I try to install the 10.8 version of ATI's driver it says that my gpu is not supported. Sooo what is the deal? I downloaded the 64-bit windows 7 10.8. Some help would be greatly appreciated as my card is basically an onboard piece of crap right now.
-
Are you sure you got the mobile 10.8 drivers?
Cheers, -
I'm 250% sure.
-
uninstall drivers, run driversweeper in safe mode, reinstall drivers ^^
-
Ok. I figured it out. It was only installing the catalyst control center for some odd reason. Works great now lol.
-
Hey, while disabling Catalyst A.I i have better graphics in some of the games and you really notice it, and better stablility, not lagging or freezes in most of the games, like games we really know they have problem mostly Split Second which runs like crap on Radeon cards, even top 5970.
But i'll keep this thing disable until i'll see otherwise, i don't need Driver optimiztion to screw with game graphics and stability.
And thank you gary no more GSOD, did not have BSOD anyway :B, and i hope i won't have another shortcut of a destructive names thank to the 10.8 driver ,v211 and gary's bios v93 i'm happy gamer whos gaming happily. -
just doing a lil update, and another thank you to every one and gary.
day 3 of gaming FFXI beta, LOL, WOW, COD4 at least 2-3 hours straight no a single gsod or freeze or hickup. -
I want to have a go at the vBIOS - Stupid question - How do I make by USB stick bootable? I am sure I have done it before but cant remember how.
-
You can make it with hp usb tool and win98 boot files.
Run hp usb tool---> file system FAT32---> CREATE A DOS STARTUP DISK---->>>> USING DOS SYSTEM FILES LOCATED AT: ( here put the win98boot folder)---->START ^_^
HP USB TOOL
