I have a new thing to rant about:

Eh, CCC and GPU-Z don't seem to detect that I'm on 10.8. Still reads 10.6.
Went down the lazy, non-driver sweeping way though.
Then again, no more split second GSOD/resume back to normal in COD4 after the new vBios.
About to run Furmark. -
For some reason I am now having bad flash backs
About to try the vBIOS update... My heart feels like it just skipped a few thousand beats just thinking that something can go wrong lol -
f9080631fbf604417b0c92ad3b5b7772 md5 for 93vBIOS_OD.rar
77887275f13387faf831a746d20a83e3 md5 for 93vBIOS.rar -
I tried this and it failed for me, please see the attached file.Attached Files:

-
It is running fine with 10.6 in OpenGL mode.
-
Interesting. Did you use a FAT32 formatted Flash drive?
-
Yes, I did it exactly like the instructions.
-
Download it again, maybe it got corrupted.
-
I would redownload it. I posted checksums for both packages
-
Maybe just bad luck. I dont think its a downlaod problem. It came in a .RAR if the .RAR contain error, You would not have been able to extract it.
Just try it again.
BTW this Vbios seem to work great! no GSD so far. -
Thanks a ton for the hard work, Gary (and also Chastity). Installed the new vBIOS, installed Catalyst 10.8, nothing's blown up yet.
-
Great news indead for every g73 user
, hopefully when i order mine it comes with this new vbios.
-
Hi guys, 1st thankyou Gary,
installed the new vBios, got bios 211 and cata 10.8, no problems so far, HDMI is working and the vga too
, i didnt test games far than 5 mins yet because im so happy that im crying xD, well gonna try SC2 now, HON and WOW see you later
-
Just reporting back to say a big THANK YOU from Australia
Been checking here religiously for a fix and here it is.
Thank you so much for all your hard work Gary!
Back to my games now
-
Gamed for an hour on SC2 with BIOS 211, new vBIOS, and Cat 10.8. No screen tearing or GSODs, or instability! Thanks Gary and Chastity!
-
No luck, I have tried it 4 times, I even updated the bios to 211. SIGH
-
Played almost a hour with Left 4 Dead 2, no GSOD (with stock+beta vBIOS I've got GSOD in a few min) under 10.6. I consider this good since this vBIOS was mainly optimized for 10.8
-
SC2 just locked up on me and when I restarted it loocked up again. Dont know if it has anything to do with the vbios. Gonna teep testing
-
I would recommend contacting gary about this. SInce this is the first time I hear this kind of issue
-
not sure if this makes a difference but try typing it in this way
atiflash -f -p 0 *****.001 -
I Get the same problem
-
AAAHHHH, well misery loves company
-
I tried this with the same results.
-
How do I contact Gary?
-
Also tried that and still get the error, just got this laptop today and its been nothing but trouble
, dead pixels and GSODS. Now I cant even update the vbios
-
First, I want to thank Gary and beta-testers for nice work, but I have a question concerning the GPU clock. After update to new v Bios Amd GPU clock tool showed 405/1000 as default clock, before it was 699/1000. I wonder if this is a normal?
-
Great work!
Only tried FurMark for about three minutes though, so I personally don't know yet
But I'm writing this because I have two questions. How important is it that the computer has to be turned off for ten seconds before you turn it on again after a vBios flash? I just pressed the ctrl-alt-delete buttons as soon as the confirmation of a successful flash showed up on the screen. Then it shut itself off and turned itself on immediately. Risky bussiness?
Second question: I installed the 10.8 drivers when they came out, and hooked it up to my full-HD TV. It worked, but instead of the image filling the whole screen, there were black borders all the way around the image. The whole image was there, but it wasn't "streched" out to the edges like with the 10.1 driver package. Is this a known problem, or is it because of some of the utility-drivers that comes with the 10.1s, but not with the 10.8s? How can it be fixed? -
Have you previously flashed the device with any other vBIOS? It could be checking to see whether the board is one it knows it supports...
-
use this command first then try to flash it again
atiflash -unlockrom 0 -
It's normal. It's just powerplay down clocking the card. When you play a game or something than needs more power, it will up the clock to 700/1000 again.
-
double post, sorry
-
Anyway, it's a bit strange to me, because I had 40-50 Fps when I played MafiaII, but now it doesn't go more than 30???
-
Check your CCC settings as they might be forcing some settings which would lower your fps's
-
With the TV connected, go into CCC. Go to Desktop & Displays, right click on the TV icon (on the bottom) and choose Configure. Adjust the overscan option(s).
-
Great, thanks!
-
Hey guys, quite new to the forums and with my g73jh-a1, would anyone be able to explain me how to contact anybody for detailed instructions on how to update everything because I am a complete noob in regards to updating computer software and such. Help would be awesome! Thanks guys!
-
this fails and says "invalid command"
-
Great, didn't tested yet (going out of town, no time for testing). Thanks Gary.
It's great to hear no GSOD so far no one in Furmark. Now my question is the real thing: What about game performance? Similar to stock+10.1 combo? Better? Anyone do any benchmark so far to campare? I'm asking 'coz in stock vBios+10.7a, before the GSOD coming, the performance in Stracraft2 and Split Second drops dramatically. Never unplayable, but not fluid as stock+10.1. Now I'm in this former combination and everything run back smoothly again (and GSOD free). -
Just finished updating everything, and am a little disappointed (Not a gsoding issue)
Old vbios, CCC 10.1 and 10.6 = 97C furmark
New vbios, CCC 10.8 = 102C (same ambient)
Also, I used to be able to downclock all the way to 200/300 to get much better battery life, and run cooler. Now when I try, the screen locks up. -
The error code you have sounds like a locked rom. The atiflash version given with the bios package is 3.73, get the updated 3.79 version and you will be able to use this command.
techPowerUp! :: Download ATIFlash 3.79 -
Probably because the new vBios increase the voltage of the core to compensate the memory timing issue.
Again, any real/game report so far? The G73 runs hotter now in games? What about performance? -
That did the trick, thanks for your help
-
If thats the case, then I guess im ok with it
Anyways about to go into a 4v4 SCII match, will let you know if I notice any performance increase -
Heya,
It truly is a good day!.. however, I am experiencing a problem flashing:
Following the instructions, I've used the HP app to create a FAT32, non-Quick Format, DOS startup disk pointing at the win98boot folder.
After some five minutes (?) it finished so I rebooted and entered the BIOS menu via the Delete key. I changed my Option 1 boot to the USB and restarted. The laptop, however, booted up as usual. I then tried it w/ the reverse boot setting (as it was before I changed it) and, again, it booted normally. Not once did I boot to DOS... so I couldn't type VFlash.
My USB key is in the left side of the laptop, closest to me.
I would appreciate some help. I'm by no means an inexperienced user so I'm beginning to wonder what I'm missing. -
Oh... and the only files on the USB are the three files as instructed. Don't know if that's wrong (i.e., should I also see the win98boot files?) so I thought it would be worth mentioning.
-
try holding down the esc key when booting. should bring up a menu to select which drive you want to boot from
-
Thank you for the quick suggestion.
Although I didn't have an opportunity to try it (was back looking through the BIOS menu), I did figure out that you can go the the Save And Exit tab of the BIOS and on the very bottom choose the location to boot from. My USB drive was listed there along w/ the HD and DVD-RW. I chose my USB and it booted just fine. Typed VFlash and a few seconds later had a successfully flashed vBIOS instructing me to reboot.
Again, thanks! -
Don't change any option. If your USB is booteable, It should be in the main menu (yellow letters), choose it and you will boot right away from the usb, skipping all the others options.
-
just played starcraft 2 with the new vbios
after an hour or so a GSOD briefly appeared, went away after 5 seconds with the screen flickering for a bit. a minute later everything went back to normal. now browsing the forums, some little black boxes appear at the bottom right corner, but goes away by itself.
it seems that the new vbios really tries to suppress GSODs and other graphical issues.
bios 211, catalyst 10.8
