Curious. Try a very clean install of 10.8.

Ahh, nvm, I see you fixed your issue. I'll have to smack Gary for distributing an old atiflash, and myself for not catching it. I'll update my distro pronto.

Well I did not but my laptop to play games on, I do Cad / Engineering stuff and gaming hardware is typically well suited for my applications. With the vbios fix, Bios update to 211 and upgrading the video drivers to 10-8 this thing is a rocket ship. I am very pleased with it now, not so much before these fixes. I have tried everything that previously GSOD and it seems FIXED, YEA!!!

Thank you. That's exactly what I ended up trying and it just booted right up w/o me having to reboot, etc... like you said.

So it says my vBIOS is now:
    012.020.000.032
    BR038352.001
    2010/08/30

Is that correct? Time to go flash from 209 to 211 and move from 10.7a to 10.8

make sure powerplay isnt keeping your core clock at 405...for w/e reason, even in high performance mode, it was still underclocked, had to use the gpu clock tool to change it.

Anyways, I just got out of a match in SCII, everything worked flawlessly, only saw a moderate increase in FPS though, and no increase in temps :)

Another successful flash here :) Already on Bios 211, now I just need to upgrade from 9.12 to 10.8. Only (dumb) question is, what key do you press on bootup to access Safe Mode? I've only gotten that menu once, and it was prompted by the system after a failed driver rollback.

So the fix in this Vbios is more voltage? a.k.a. more heat?

Edit: Also, sorry if this has been asked before, but when using Catalyst Install Manager to uninstall the driver, if I click custom uninstall, it does not list the actual display driver as a component to uninstall. Just CCC and Avivo. Should I be using Express uninstall instead?

Edit 2: I just went ahead and used Express uninstall. It didn't seem to have gotten the display driver though, so driver sweeper wiped it out. Now running on 10.8. Now to test some games :D

Hey again guys, I dont know if anybody saw my previous post on this thread but I am in need of some assistance in updating all of my versions for both the vBios and the drivers. I am really not that great with computers so some assistance would be awesome. Would anybody be able to show me how to PM on these forums so it'll be easier to do step by step explanations? Thanks!

How do backup the original vBios with atiflash??

Also using GPU-Z from techpowerup I save to my desktop a file called Broadway.bin (128 KB (131,072 bytes))... it is actually my origial vBIOS? How can I checked it?

Not much added heat on my end here. And gaming/load temps are the same.

I do hit 100 on Furmark though in about 3 minutes. Was 99C before so a repaste is on the cards.

405/100!?!?! Try keeping your P4G all the time in high performance, everything at 100% and check Power Options in Control Panel of Windows your setting are in P4G High performance too. Finally check Powerplay in CCC at High performance as well when plugged in.

There is something that doesn't make sense for me. For one side Gary state the OC option will be available in future releases, and now you Gary release one with this option activated. So, why this vBios option is not coming straight from Gary or asus but you? You just activated it using a vBios editor and the Gary/asus one is hard-code activated?

Anyway, I'm not complaining against either you or Gary, just I want to understand. :)

Alright, I have tried my two most commonly played games, CoD4 and GTA IV (which GSOD'd on me when I tried upgrading to 10.7, but then again that was not a clean install), and they both work perfectly :D CoD4 no longer gives me 2 second blackouts when loading certain servers, and GTA IV, well, doesn't GSOD! I don't do Furmark, and so far games work perfectly, so, once again, way to go Gary! I am now the proud owner of a fully updated G73JH-A2 :D :D

thanks!!!!!!! updated to 10.8 then installed the vbios and it runs great. mine also shows 405/1000 but as soon as i start a game it bumps up to stock clocks. i played kane and lynch 2 for a few hours and was pulling 70+ FPS with everything on high and temp peaked at 85.

this is weird to me, after updating to the new Vbios, and 10.8 i look in HWinfo and it shows my clocks at 300/1000

    what gives?

edit: a full reboot seems to have done the trick anyway. i can go unplugged 300, plugged 405, and a windowed game shows 700, all while mem stays at a constant 1000. thats how its supposed to be right?

also is there a way so powerplay can downclock the mem when unplugged on its own?

Those clocks are supposed to appear at idle state or when the vga it is not needed. Some ppl report their clocks are405/1000, other 400/1000, so it depends on the gpu loading. Any one can put the new vbios in a vbios editor to check how many clocks there are and its clock timings?

Played sc2 4 hours with new vbios and 10.8 ccc driver, no single gsod. And I could be imagining, but performance seems little better? By no means the FPS increased is huge, but in some camera angle I don't get as much performance hit as with msi vbios and same 10.8 ccc driver.

Needless to say, I am very satisfied with new vbios so far.

I just updated to the new vbios and its great! i can downclock to 100/200 on 10.8 now!! flickering when downclocking to 300/300 disappeared but i had a minor flicker when downclocking to 100/200.

    BIOS 211 ATI 10.8

above all, great work to everybody especially gary and the beta testers. ASUS does care! LOL :) Now the G73JH is back for revenge!

edit: now i can plug in the HDMI on 100/200 without getting a *SOD

I tried using the above methods, but when I boot to my USB drive, it goes to a black screen and shows a blinking white line, but doesn't do anything. Then I tried going safe mode with the command prompt which worked, but when I typed in VFlash or updateOD, it said my current version of ATIFLASH.exe was incompatible with the version of Windows7 that I am using, is there a 64bit or 32bit of AtiFlash that I am not aware of?

    Thanks

You can't use ATiflash under windows. Type dir /p, if it doesn't list the files on the flash drive, you didn't make the bootable flash drive correctly.

No, you shouldn't. How did you boot from it? Did you tap "esc" at the ASUS logo and then selected your flash drive to boot from?

I went to the Bios settings, then I went to the Save changes page, and I booted off the USB on the list at the bottom of the screen. Then it just showed that black screen and nothing happened.

Try taping "Esc" when the ASUS logo appears and manually select your Flashdrive. If this doesn't work, you messed up something while you made the flashdrive bootable.

Played MAFIA II for quite some time now, and it works totally great. I'm on 211 bios, the new vBios and 10.8 drivers. Performance went up, and there's like better lighting everywhere in the game. Feels much smoother.

211 10.8 HDMI (didn't have a present way to check VGA)
    Video-ok
    Games-ok
Temps-high (~100 so far, perhaps a re-paste is in my future)

    Excellent results.

Looking good, so far & hope it continues...will this be called good and no more tweaking?

Thanks due to ASUS, coding Team, Gary, & BETA testers (and to all the vocal owners). Thank you for not sweeping this under a rug.

This is a great laptop, and it just got better...knowing that ASUS & company fixes things when broken, that means a lot!
