Hey guys, trying to update the vBIOS by following the instructions on the front page, but it wont let me run the HP USB flash drive thingy. It says access denied because im not an administrator? ?
-
you need to extract the zip file 1st. then make the usb bootable using included program in the zipped file (hp and win98).
-
@Zealock (because I'm on a "let's be nice to the sick guy mood even after reading 100 pages of this forum myself")
- update vbios as per first post from this thread
- update bios to 211
- update drivers to your favorite (I went for 10.8 waiting for 10.10)
- enjoy -
I registered on this site to thank Gary and all of those who contributed to the fix.
I had been looking at this computer and this fix was the selling point for me since I wanted the Best Buy $1235 version instead of the JW $1750+ version coming out soon.
Thanks again for this awesome fix! -
Yeah I did, I extracted the files onto my desktop, but when I run HP, it says "Permission Denied, the administrator rights are required to run this tool".
-
Have anyone here noticed temperature difference after updating this Vbios? did it help anyone here in lowering their GPu thermal diode temperature readings while in game?
If someone have compared pre and post Vbios GPU temperatures please share .. THanks -
BtW my IDLE GPU thermal diode is 72C.. IS it normal?
-
I'm not sure you're qualified to flash a vbios (as easy as it may be) if you can't figure out how to give a program administrative rights in vista/7.
-
have you tried right-clicking?
-
thank you very much
-
Is there some improvements in this vBios for those who don't have problem with GSODing? More overclocking ability, temperature drop or something?
Now I have ziddy's v3 vBios. Should I upgrade it? thanks. -
I am the administrator for this computer itself. It says that I am the administrator and it still wont let me open the file. As for right clicking on the file? Im not sure what that will do. All im asking is for some help please.
-
Right click ... "Run As Administrator"
You need to elevate the program manually -
you don't elevate the program ROFL....
-
Jesus people, just right click and "Run as Administrator" Its not that bleeping hard, and certainly not anything out of the ordinary. Numerous programs require that you do that.
-
Obviously Sir, you are incorrect.
-
sigh obviously...
-
temperature drop with 100/150 0.9v and working (more or less) powerplay
-
i noticed something interesting
when i don't do nothing the core clock stays at 405 mhz ( and btw why 405? not 400? ) but when i hold the F5 button which refreshes the desktop the core goes to 700 mhz and when i release the button it goes down to 405? hmm what is that going from 2D to 3D with refreshing the desktop?
p.s i monitored the clock with everest -
i have the same meaning about the fast freezing like one second
i just posted now that the core jumps with refreshing the desktop
maybe the asus team should work a little more on the vbios but still they have succes - gsod is gone -
can anyone confirm that enabling Vsync on games actually improves performance?
since i installed this new Vbios, i was getting some Fps drops, and now i'm trying all games with Vsync on and i'm getting some improvements and less Fps drops in game... -
It depends on the system running the game, but for our G73 turning vSync on will improve game play like tearing of displays etc will be avoided, but not the performance itself. You may also see some bubble chats in some options that may REDUCE system performance when turning it on.
-
my point was, that turning Vsync on, helped me in that problem that some users has, the Fps drops during the game..
-
I finaly also updated my vbios after I had now a single GSOD in Bioshock 2. It woked for quite some time until it actually GSOD.
Update went smooth and everything is still working
-
There is no "2D" or "3D". Since Vista, Windows UI is all using Direct3D.
PowerPlay will up-clock based on graphics usage, not just some mythical 2D/3D mode
-
Hey guys, tried updating my vBIOS today, but when I type in "VFlash" it says the command is invalid... I am using chastity's OD vBIOS anybody know whats wrong?
-
Nevermind, fixed it
-
First off, I love this site! I read about the G73JH for quite a long time via this place before purchasing (X1 model from Newegg). Upon receiving it, I immediately wiped the 500GB HDD and moved it over into the other slot (comes with 1 cage, moved it over ala a little velcro for storage, my 80GB Intel SSD arrives tomorrow), so I'm getting it ready for a nice, fresh, non-bloatware install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64.
I flashed the bios from 209 >>> 211 without any issues (not like it was hard), but before going about flashing the vbios (and let me say, I read at least 70 pages of this thread), I'm confused which one (93vbios_od or 93vBIOSa) I'm supposed to use. What are the benefits/differences of each? Thanks guys! Keep up the fantastic work! -
_od is the overdrive-enabled version that Chastity modified, a is the official from Gary.
-
Thanks for the reply Kaelang! Overdrive as in CCC overclocking? Would the OD version allow say ... overclocking with ATI Tray Tools? Never have been a huge fan of CCC!
Edit: Also, if ATT does work, is powerplay tweakable within its options? Thanks! -
Overdrive enabled allows for OC via Overdrive tab in CCC. ATI Tray Tools are not needed, nor recommended.
-
Bleh, guess I'm going with CCC. Thanks Chastity.
-
ok.i did my vbios update few days back and i see that my gpu and cpu fans are running a bit hotter/warmer and louder than before ..
is this something to worry about or is there a fix for this? -
@Chastity
right now my temp. is idle 58-60 and gaming 84-88
so if i update vbios with your vbios will my temp. will fall ?
Should i leave it as it is too scared with RMA stuff
-
ok explain to me then how did i raise the graphic usage? (WITH REFRESHING)
when using some applications i see going from 405 to 700 and in a second falling again to 405 you think that is normal? -
What motherboard BIOS are you using?
-
Yes it's normal for the firmware we are using.
With PowerPlay enabled, GPU usage is monitored and some algorithm is used to determine if GPU usage is in one of three states: low, medium, or high. Each of these states can have its own clock settings.
With the firmware on our 5870s, the clock profile for the medium and high states is the same (and unfortunately can't be changed by us...lame) so when general UI use puts the GPU into the medium state, the high clocks are used. -
So after updating my G73JH bios to 211 and vbios to the od version, I've been testing out some benchmarks (FFXIV Bench, 3DMark06, Vantage) on 10.8 drivers (stock clocks). Problem is, every single one of them crashes numerous times throughout, then the driver recovers. Any ideas? Thanks!
-
^^ I noticed that 10.8 had issues with my system (occasional display driver crashing and more annoyingly, the underscan issue with external monitors) so I just rolled back to 10.7 (rock solid). I'll upgrade to 10.10 whenever they decide to release it.
-
on my system 10.8 is the only version that the driver doesn't crash other than 9.12 (gary vbios) so who knows.
-
Can you please tell me how you fixed it? Because I'm having the same issue here. Thanks!
-
if you are using my package, then run updateod.bat to flash vBIOS.
-
chastity, I was wondering what version of the ati drivers you recommend using atm?
thanks a ton for all your hard work, I just bought a g73 and this thread specifically has been a huge help. in the process of a making a bootable vbios cd atm
-
Finally did it;
vbios + bios 211 + 10.8
still having artifacts (tested with mafia 2 demo)... well RMA time
-
What kind of artifacts? I would wait for 10.10 before RMA.
-
Popular votes put it pretty even with 10.7a vs 10.8. Some are using a modded 10.9a package. I'm using 10.8 myself.
-
Can someone explain Step 3 abit further? How do we type VFlash? Would something be opened for us to type in?
-
YouTube - Movie
Just made a video to show you, also getting artifacts in SC2/WOW.I thought I fixed it last month, removing my external hard drive and playing with voltage would fix it... but somehow it came back (that's why I tried 211+vbios).
I can run furmark 20m+ without any problems at 102c max temp, some games aren't affected.
Thanks!
edit: artifacts with 10.1 too -
You'll be booted to DOS, so you'll get the old standard DOS command prompt:
C:\>
Just type!
Geez I feel old when there's so many youngsters that don't know what DOS is or have never seen it.
-
DOS. The other white meat.
