I'm not sure... I didn't know you could do it from the Bios itself, When I downloaded the bios from asus I saw that winflash utility so I used it. It worked just fine.
-
@Hellcry: Can you see what PCI-E mode you are in with MSI vBIOS?
-
Well I am in 1.1 mode Chas and I use the MSI vBIOS
iemie -
-
Hm, after reading here I curiously checked to see what mode my 5870m was running in via GPU-Z. PCI-E 1.1 @ 16x here w/ the OD bios.
-
You have to use GPU-Z to see what it reports. Other utilities (HWiNFO/Everest) all report PCIE 2.0 where-as GPU-Z reports PCIE 1.1.
-
to everyone who is using MSI vbios: it's running better than the one Gary posted but you can't use your hdmi and vga port?
-
Cheers, -
So every user who had problems with Gary's vbios was because they had OC their GPUs?
-
Cheers, -
I was not using GPU-Z I was just using the CCC Info thing, but now after using GPU-Z it does show that I am only using PCI-E 1.1 Mode.
Every program says it's 2.0 but GPU-Z says 1.1 either the others are wrong or GPU-Z is wrong. -
Aye it is a bit and confusing I must admit. But according to this little test program and according to the transfer rates I am getting with it I am definitely in 1.1 mode.
iemie -
translation: the system supports 2.0, but is in 1.1 mode -
-
Apparently even on stock Vbios it' 1.1
-
Accoring to the numbers im in the PCI-E 1.1 range.
And i never play overclocked, so thats not the cause of instability on the Asus vBios. -
Here is my hwinfo32 picture. And it reports pcie v2.0
-
^^ READ
Your HWINFO says it's CAPABLE of PCI-E 2.0, but the bandwidth reported is 2.5Gb/s, which is 1.1 -
Hi guys,
I just got my new G73jh. I updated my bios, vbios and tried to install the 10.8 version of the ATI drivers (I might already have an existing ATI Driver, think it is v10.1)
For some reason, my Catalyst Control Center says the Host Application is not working now... And I cannot open the Catalyst Control Center anymore, it just doesn't load.
And I also still cannot run FFXIV, but I can run Starcraft2.
Any ideas what I did wrong? -
As You can read from picture above gpuz reports that it supports v1.1 and run at 1.1 so I believe that gpuz reports wrong.
Have checked now and google search show all the others laptops with 5870m gpuz reports pcie v2.0 so looks like asus surprises us yet again -

i am formating a 32 GB jump drive to use as a boot disk for the bios update. it is taking a long time to format. Do i have to uninstall any software BEFORE i update the bios???
-
...and make sure you're installing the mobility driver "Full Software Suite" ! -

I have 2 pendrive for emergencies. The first one is a cheap 1 Gigabyte in DOS for BIOS/vBIOS/Boot in Fat32. The second one is a 4 Gigabytes with the installation files of win7x64. Install full in roughly 7 min.
-
I just want to get the bios updated. I'll worry about the ati drivers later. So you can confirm I DON'T need to correct?
-
wait. what is the difference between 211 and v93? i am reading Gary's post and i don't understand it.
-
211 is the system bios and v93 is the video bios (hence the V)
-
Next do the vBIOS update from the BIOS. just make sure you boot in DOS from the BIOS with your pendrive plugged in already. If the boot is correct, you will see the win95 (FTW) screen slash and next just run the WHEREVERNAME.bat file (check you have the three essential files atiflash.exe, the bios and the .bat). reboot into win7 and everything should go smooth. Next uninstall the catalyst and to the upgrade to 10.8+ -
am i supposed to update bios 211 as well? iam scared shetless because i am afraid of doing this. but I don't wanna have to stay on stock ati drivers for eternity either.
-
First: Update BIOS to 211, reboot.
Second: Update vBIOS to v93, reboot.
Third: Update your catalyst drivers to 10.8+
And relax, everyone here were doing the same than you with no hassle to update ours machines. -
where do i download 211?
-
-
where is the exe vflAsh stuff for 211??
-
plz help i have to leave in 30 min. do i just copy the ati flash file to the jump drive as well as the 211 bios file?
-
EDit: use winflash for the BIOS
for the VBIOS basically you start HP tool and make a boot disk giving it the folder of win98 files and after that you copy everything on the flas drive (the VBIOS and the atiflash aand the *.bat) -
" Please use EZflash or Winflash V2.30.1 to flash this BIOS. You can get Winflash V2.30.1 from below link:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-"
EZ Flash is built in to the system BIOS configuration.
For the Video BIOS: Follow the directions in the first post on this thread! -
Hi everyone, I've finally decided to take the plunge and dive into this new vBIOS. Before, I was running on stock 206 BIOS and stock drivers. I updated to 211 BIOS; my idle temps have increased from about 55C to 64C. Is that normal? Also, I'm using the HP USB Format Tool on an 8GB flash drive. It seems like it will take about 45min. Is this normal? I'm not using quick format. Thanks for the help!

-
Sorry there is a ton of pages in this thread... quick question does flashing your vbios to the 93v void your warranty?

Halp im not so good at computers.
So I can't play FFXIV and it's making me pretty upset.
I have 10.8 catalyst installed but that doesnt help.
How do I know if I need to flash my Bios or what version it is and how to update to the right one if i'm not already using the right one?
All i've done is what the OP said to but when I boot from the drive and type VFlash or all manner of caps to small letter ratio all I get is bad command message.
What am I doing wrong.
Please use as many layman terms as possible. Thanks! -
I mentioned this in the posting where I linked to this package originally. -
