You are not doing anything wrong, the problem is, the instructions do not mention that VFlash is not under the root directory, meaning when you are at the command prompt in DOS, you cannot just type in VFlash, you first have to type 'cd\93vbios' that will take you into the '93vBIOS' sub directory. Now that you are there, you may type 'DIR' and hit enter, this will list the contents of the sub directory; this is just so you can see that VFlash is listed there (you may skip this step). Anyway, you can now type VFlash and it will work.
Bear in mind, this is a critical step and you cannot risk any interruption such as power outage etc during the update, therefore, be sure to have the battery in your laptop just in case.
And once it is done, you my just turn off your laptop, wait 10 seconds, and restart. Some people have questions regarding the 10 sec waiting period. It benefits the computer, provided there is no battery in it, as it removes any static build up in the circuit and micro-chips, however, waiting 10 seconds is of no use if you have the battery plugged into your laptop (my personal conclusion).
Additionally, just a bit of advice about the battery; if you are frequently using the laptop at a desk or a place where there is an electric outlet, you should remove the battery from the laptop once it is fully charged. Reason is; batteries have a specific life. They only charge so many times and then they become useless (some have a microchip built into it for this very reason). The way to preserve a battery life is to only plug it into your laptop when you need it and it is good to remove it and store it away after it is fully charged. Every time you plug the power in and out of your laptop, the chargeable battery loses an increment. A couple years later when you need to sell the laptop or go on a long trip and really need the batteries, they may not have the capacity to hold a charge. Then you will to have buy a new one. Batteries can be left out for 3-4 months and they will not lose their charge. I know this is unrelated but a bit of advice is always helpful.

Hiya Chastity, I would just love to extend my thanks for this fix.
I had to go to 800/1100 for stability on my girl, but she is happy with no more GSOD. I had massive problems on 3DS Max 9/2011 and AutoCAD 2010 with lockups and VSODs. but since doing this, i can report it worked for me!
Thanks again. -
Well I don't know what's up with Asus tech. I mean they got sme util from ATI with which they can modify the radeon bios(something likr RBE). I'm really puzzled they can't modify power plans just like MSI. I mean They don't won't to or they do not know how to do it. I just cleaned my fans after 7 mths use. Man there was some big dust clothes cloging the vents. Well disassembling your g73 and cleaning vents and fans every half a year is a good idea.temps dropped from 60 idling to 50.
-
well i don't know about others - but with the way the keyboard is with it's very nice sticky tape, i used compressed air while the machine was in battery mode, then plugged it in and ran prime 95 for a few seconds. and hoovered up all the dust it spat out! (note the hoover was about a foot or so away)
My idles are about 51c on the ati now with the new timings. (250/500mhz for powersaving) -

Can someone help me please? I created the bootable drive and all set to flash the new vBios, but I can't figure out
how to get the 93vBIOS.rar file to extract the atiflash.exe, BR3852.001, and Vflash.bat files. Or is that how it's done? I'm terribly confused. -
step one; download the file, which you've done
step two; download a file from WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files called Winrar
step three: install winrar
step four, double click on the vbios.rar file and it will open a window with the thngs 'inside' it
step five: drag those onto the window of your usb pen drive
step six: REMOVE THE USB DRIVE SAFELY before rebooting, by right clicking on the usb plug by the clock on the bottom right.
step seven follow instructions as per flash guide.
hope that helps mate -
what about updates from Gary Key??
-
Updates for what?
-
maybe a silly Q: but why are u all using usb to flash gpu, dosent AtiWinFlash work anymore?
-
It just feels safer to do it from DOS....a lot less going on in the background -
well in my j73jh the dust was just so big it would block the fans if I used compresed air in reverse
. But I did use it to clean the fans after I got them out.
Kenjison lookup g73jh disasembly pdf here on the forum. The disassembly is pretty easy if you know your way around with screwdriver and plastic notebok cases. But if you have any doubts that you can do it, better take it to service shack or use compressed air in reverse and pray the dust won't block the fans.
Chastity nice reply. " Updates for what?". Got me LOL. -
but this vBIOS, is it official. I mean, if we have to send our notebook to RMA(IF something gonna hapen in the future) and they see that the VBIOS is changed, is there gonna a be a problem?
-
I did flash of BIOS today and installed 10.8 amd driver. Tested on Resident Evil 5 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 and not GSOD yet. I hope it will stay like this forever
And of course thank you very much Gary and other guys who were working on solutions -
-
Anyone found a way to control the CPU and GPU fans, because i´m afraid that someday i will start cooking on my laptop
-
Nope, it's all in the BIOS, and locked out.
-
With stock clocks i get always boot out of windows, because the GPU is overheating...
Is there any Bios editor to pass this look up?
If i´m playing a game i really don´t mind the fans noise, but if i´m trying to sleep with a piano music of course i don´t want ear the fans, computers makers really need to do a little more for their customers... -
If your GPU is overheating, you should have the thermal paste redone. There are plenty of threads on the subject already, and if you have issue with opening and disassembling the unit, have it done professionally, or by someone who is laptop savvy.

Is the PCI-E 2.0 @ 1.1 bandwidth issue ever going to be addressed?
-
Flashed fine and dandy, still have yet to test any games
Bios 211, ATi 10.8 (used Chansitys OD verison)
Starcraft 2 ran fine, and no GSODs or hiccups -

-
Can i flash my bios with A bootable dvd? And if i can can i get some instructions on how to do it please?
-
I just updated since I got my first GSOD yesterday and today again, I am on 10.8 and looks pretty stable, got a few fps dropouts at the start of the game, according to GPU-Z it changed frequencies, also it added ~3 degrees to my temps
except that it works fine -
Has anyone tried the 10.9 drivers yet with this vbios? Just wondering if the GSOD is still fixed with them or if I need to stick with 10.8. I haven't done the bios and vbios updates yet, still on stock vbios and the original bios that came with my G73jh, which is the 204 bios. I've been running the 10.7a drivers at stock clock speeds with no problems but if I go to any other driver version it GSODs like crazy which is why I'm asking about the 10.9, I'm planning on doing the updates tonight. I just want to make sure to grab the right driver version while I have the chance.
-
You need to do your BIOS and vBIOS updates as per the GSOD sticky to fix GSODs. Updating the drivers only will not fix the issue, no matter how hard you wish or pray. If you do not want to update your vBIOS, then live with the GSODs until you buy a new laptop. -
Ok, and people like you give me a migraine. If you had actually read my post I was asking if anyone had tried the 10.9 drivers with the updated bios and vbios to see if they caused a GSOD or not. I know the 10.8 drivers and new bios+vbios fixes this but ATI's site only lists the 10.9 drivers now.
BTW, I did read the OP and your post, and downloaded your overdrive updated vbios package BEFORE posting my previous post, I just haven't done any of it yet and was planning on doing it tonight. I was looking for more info since I could not get the 10.8 drivers from the ATI website is all so I would know to just skip downloading 10.9 and grab 10.8 elsewhere for when I do the update tonight.
It's not like I posted without reading through most of the 123 pages in this thread, I'm not that dense, I guess I just worded my original post wrong. *shrugs* -
The new vBIOS is good for any and all catalysts. It would be madness if the fix was only for one driver release.
-
Hey, I've seen stranger things, trust me. Anyway, thanks for the input.
-
-
Ok, so yah I was looking at the wrong ones... see? Always helps to ask! Thanks for pointing that out Tiscan, I don't know what happened there but I know for sure that I had told it notebook, 3 times actually. Guess it just routed me to the wrong page or something. Thanks again.

is down to 85MAX on a 15 min run. That's down from a 105 after 2 minutes. I used the IC Diamond that you suggested. 26 degrees ambient temperature.
I installed your modded vbios and I see that I can unlock the Overdrive now which is very nice. I am however unclear on how to get the laptop to downclock to 250/500. GPU-Z reports the same clocks on power and battery and in both Power 4-Gear Max and Battery Saving modes.
How do I get the laptop to downclock ? Thanks for all the help on the forums. -
250/500 is active when PowerPlay is active and on battery.
405/1000 on idle and on AC.
You should get a few degrees lower after a few days with ICD7. My idles dropped a few after a week.
+1 for doing a great job. -
Ah nevermind Chastity. It seems the first tab of GPU-Z does not update the clocks, however the second tab does and when I unplug my lappy it goes down to 250/500 and back up to 405/1000 when I plug back in and 700/1000 when I use a graphics intensive program. What a wonderful addition to this already great laptop. Thanks 1000x's!
EDIT: Wow you replied as I was typing my reply! Thanks again
@nd Edit.. Damn I called you Charity.. I'm sorry.. Chastity ! -
I'm a fairly new owner of the G73jh & I know this question has been asked before but does repasting void warranty? Has anyone actually been through the process and wasnt denied warranty by repasting the GPU? I ordered several tubes of ICD7 & am eager to go ahead and repaste but am currently under warranty.... I've opened a few laptops in my days & pretty confident I wont break anything... However the stock double sided tape on the keyboard has me worried.... The guy in the youtube video was like "..... Yea.... You might have to get someone to straighten the keyboard back out.... o_0...." Has anyone notice a difference in their keyboard after doing the repaste (ex. not aligned correctly or bent???)... I also ordered a new 1080 screen from CHEAP LAPTOP SCREENS, LCD panels from $49. Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, Acer, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Gateway, Apple, Asus & thinking about installing the sucker all in one shot.... Just wanted to make sure & hear from anyone that might have ran into problems with warranty.

I don't know if it's vBIOS related, but I start getting this complete freeze in games, and my only option is to restart,(can't do anything) their are accompanied by a buzz sound :|
edit: this does seem like a GSOD, but I get no GSOD itself just the noise, I wonder if it's driver related, maybe I should do a clean install of 10.8, and sweep the last one.
edit1: can this be a creative issue? I have bass bost disabled BTW
edit2: It happened again while playing a non-demanding game (feeding frenzy) the sound only comes out of the headphones, if I remove the headphones there is no sound, I waited like 20 seconds this time and a BSOD appeared, it was a Machine_check_exceptionNo idea what causes it cause a lot of stuff can cause that, Oh boy!
-
If possible, try isolating and uninstalling all your sound drivers. Then try the game that you GSOD'ed on again. If you're still getting the problem, then at least you know it's not the sound drivers that are causing you problems.
-
I drive sweepet all my Alchemy and stuff, and I installed agian creative and realtek(a newer version), don't know if that was the issue, played 2 games and no issues so far, will see how it goes later.
-
I had this happen once during Mass Effect 2 after the vbios update. But the sound was coming out of the speakers. Has not happened again. No idea what causes it, but you are not alone.
-
I don't know if it's a coincidence, but after reinstalling creative and updating the realtek drivers, I didn't get any , and hopefully won't get any

@mastersquall
must say, it really depends. I can tell in my expirients that in norway, sweden, finnland etc will send you to hell iven if u have opend one screw.
I was actually thinking to add a SSD drive in to my NB but i cant to it myself... -
Hi all, this is my first post here and I would like to say I have found an extreme amount of useful information on these posts. With this being said I have a issue of my own in regarding to updating my vbios. I have recently upgraded to the CC 10.8 drivers, as well as have updated my BIOS to 211, which has in itself defintley shown some progress as far as my GPU temps both idle and in game( im using FFXIV on moderately high but not max settings as my benchmark). I have done all that is stated on the original post and have looked through pages and pages, ( got to page 107 before i finally decided to post my issue) since i couldnt find anybody with the same issue. I have extracted the 3 files i need to my thumb drive and when I boot up using the ESC key i get the menu showing my thumb drive. Once i click my thumb drive, it gives me a message saying "reboot and use proper boot device". I've tried it 3x now all with the same or very similar message, and am wondering what I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I too have started to experience GSOD with eventual blue screen memory dumps while playing XIV and up until now was playing without a hiccup and am very hopeful this will help solve my problem!! Thank you all and appreciate the time took to read my post
.

You have to make that USB stick 'bootable' Dooglecity. Read the first post:
