You only lose HDMI when U use a vbios not intended for your system like clevo so you have nothing to worry about. Check my tutorial if you need additional help.

Yes, that is normal. That's Powerplay dropping the clock speeds when in 2D. When 3D is up, it will bump up the clock to 700/1000, or use your Overdrive setting.

I am new to this forum so sorry for noob question. I just bought a refurbed G73JH from Newegg. Just to clear something up, the only way to use the latest ati drivers(11.2) from AMD's site is to update the vBios? Thanks

No is the answer to your question, and you should do what DCx suggested ;).
CCC (11.02) and the vbios are 2 different things. Google it.

I love how people have different recommendations from the byline from Asus. Just update the vBIOS and forget about ever doing it. If you don't and you get problems, ask Xellon for support.

woohoo just flashed the vbios bios, and ran Heaven Benchmark v2.5 Basic, no GSOD after 10 min, hope it fixed.

    p.s.
there's a big difference with the updated driver (11.2) compared with the stock driver in the benchmark...

I checked the Asus website and realized there is a "NEW" bios called:

    BIOS 213
    Firmware change

It's under the bios menu here:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks - ASUS G73Jh

Does anybody know if this is has anything to do with the vbios? or gives better stability for updating to the ATI latest drivers?

    Thanks! ^^

Hey guys and gals. I recently started having GSOD issues and so I flashed my bios and vbios about a week ago. After playing Force Unleashed II for well over an hour everything seemed to be fixed but when I went to install DAII today the computer kept freezing up. Not GSOD, just a complete lock up of the mouse, keyboard and screen. After this happened I tried loading some other games and it seems to happen with all of my steam related ones as well. I click the icon to open them, the blue loading circle appears and about 3 seconds later everything locks up. Any ideas?

I have a G73jh-tz008x with bios 213, vbios 93 and latest CCC. Everything else is stock standard.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry if this question has already been asked but I didn't particularly feel like sifting through 160 pages of posts.

Thanks loads chastity. I did not have GSOD issue, but i whanted overdrive options and the clock adjutment. Works perfectly so far.
I understand why asus would takeaway overdrive, but couldn't they make those clock themselves? I mean, it's not rocket science, you don't need huge performance on battery. It's not like this laptop lasts long anyway.

If they provided it, they would have to support it. And they do not want to be responsible for overclocking issues.

Does the 213 address the odd trackpad behavior that is really seen in linux?
(ubuntu 10.10 where it goes insane if your palm is too close...some capacitance issue? Finger only = ok, palm resting = crazy)

    Just curious.

Hello, I am new here and have been scrolling through the pages, and I updated vbios 211 and I had the 11.2 drivers already installed before and I still got the GSOD. Then I restarted to verify if the update and it says g73h 211 but the # 012.017.000.004.0359.A33G is the same when I was at the g73h 209, is it supposed to change? Im not sure what I did wrong. Help please?

I read on another post that the "Radeon bios editor" can be used to flash the Video-bios in Windows? I think that is supposed to be an easier method o_O (maybe safer too?)

I found this site to download it, but I haven't tried myself...

Download TechPowerUp Radeon Bios Editor v1.28 | techPowerUp

Can someone confirm if that method is somehow safe? =) or maybe I shall go with the HP tool from the first post?

    Thank you!

Wow... thanks for letting us know!

There was a user on your other post saying he succeeded on flashing his Vbios with this tool... but I guess I'll wait and see, cause I'm currently Not experiencing any GSOD but some people say updating makes the system more stable =S~~ so yeah, I will do it once I'm back in the US.

    Thanks again ^^

o.k, I finished with the testing and it did GSOD. Fortunately, rather than throw it against a wall for overheating I used Chastity's vbios just in case they changed it for some odd reason. It works so far. I've gamed for hours in Dragon Age 2 and no GSOD, not even a high temp. With Asus's default the sucker was running to 110 degrees C! With her's it scratches the 79 mark, that's it. What a difference...

    Hello Again,

I was planing to make this update today, but first I would like to clarify some questions I have:

    1. Can someone that successfully flashed their vBios provide an MD5 for this file: 93vBIOSa.rar (is the updated one with a newer atiflash.exe), also, is there a version of Chastity with the latest atiflash.exe?

    2. My G73 is the best buy edition (RBBX-005...), with 1333 Ram and AUO screen, and I use an SDD for the OS. Right now I'm running on stock video drivers 9.12, Bios 209, vBios: 012.017.000.004.0359.A33G, My higher temperature on the Graphic card (while gaming) is 95C using GPU-Z.

Note: I used the AMD-GPU-tool to check my temperatures but when I try to run it, I get this error: "Failed: No valid devices found"... does that matter to do the flashing?

    3. Shall I update the Bios to 213 and then the vBios, or the other way around?

    4.
    Out of curiosity, what are the ODDS of a success when doing the vbios flash? ^^;

    5. I live in California (92562), in case of a problem can I take my G73 to a service place with an RMA number myself, or I gotta wait for the Kind people of ASUS to return it?

    6. Any extra tip or advice, before taking this step?

I might be just paranoid, but I love this machine, and I would like to get the best of it since I use it for gaming and multimedia. I just dun want her to die yet xD~

    Thank you!

    1) All the current release packages have the updated ATIFLASH. (I had Gary update his, plus I did mine) Fix_OD2 does not have it since it only has the .rom and .bat files. You'll need to download both of my packages. :)

    2) You may be using the wrong version of AMD GPU Tool. Check my download page.

    3) BIOS first, then vBIOS, then drivers.

    4) Great odds! I do it all the time.

    5) You can go to the repair center if you like. They take drop-offs.

    6) When you finish, reward yourself with a new game. :D Just take your time, and be gentle with the cables and ribbons. Remember to unlock ribbon cables first.

=) I appreciate your answers Chastity

So, if I want to use your OD_version that is on the first page (this one: http://pcaudio.org/stuff/93vBIOS_OD.rar ), I just have to follow the steps on this video:

YouTube - G73Jh GSOD VBios update guide

Create the bootable USB drive, then put these files inside: "atiflash.exe"+"BR38352.001"+"fix_od.rom"+"updateod.bat"+"vflash.bat"

But instead of executing "vflash.bat" I have to use the "updateod.bat" am I right?

I don't think Mr. Gary put an MD5 for this file right?: 93vBIOSa.rar

    Thanks again! ^^

Note: on the video, after the flashing he does not unplug the USB, then power down the Computer, wait 10 secs and power up again, like it says on the instructions at the first post (here), I wonder if there is any difference if we just press ctrl+alt+del to reboot the system like he did, or if that makes it more dangerous.

if you are going to use my vBIOS, all you need is ATIFLASH.exe, updateod.bat and fix_od.rom. The other 2 files are the stock version.

I've always just let it power down and restart.

    Hi Guys,

I'm about to do this with my G73 and I was wondering if anyone had noticed an increase in performance by updating the Video Bios and using a newer chipset driver?

I guess my question really is, is it noticable?

    Cheers

Hey, as far as the 5-6 other threads discussing the exact same thing say, there is no performance benefit to the latest vbios, unless you flash one that has the overdrive enabled.

Well, in the sticky post at the top of the forum named " Read this before posting" has a link named " All solutions for your G73 HERE", which explains what the vbios update does. There are a few other links there talking about the GSOD, but that particular thread (in the "read before posting" area has a nice long discussion about the reasons of doing a vbios update.

Long story short: The thread that says "read before posting" is important. You should read it before posting. And yes, update it.
