I finally decided to post I'm starting to believe in what Swaaye mention hardware problem. Owned this laptop since May 2013 It had all the original Bios/vbios so I updated them all fresh install. Its just so Random on the GSOD with every Vbios from the forst Vbios to Chasitys OD bios and every ATI Grey screen with lines and Black screens.

Its just not working out, someone told me there is 2 versions of the ATI card ASUS uses (Different Serial #'s) as my yellow sticker ends in a c4 as you can see when the bottom Mem. lid removed.

Any suggestions? Its not heat related as it will do this at 58C and so on and Furmark can run for 4 hrs but sometimes not.

Really puzzled, and all the working G73jh on Ebay, (I don't believe it) as that's where I purchased mine

    Any inputs on this matter?

    Thanks, Duane, Michigan

I hope you are not using the stock video drivers. Some more info on your setup would help.

Back in May I updated Bios to 213 and OD2_fix

    Ati 13.6 Mobility

Like I said I can run for 2 weeks give or take but sometimes grey or black screen with lines, it doesn't flash before it GSOD.

Also, sometimes it will say ATI Driver stopped then recover during a game. I'm really leaning on the card probably has a glitch as I did many new window reinstalls clean no extras like creative software.

Run an express uninstall of the existing video drivers, reboot, and run Driver Cleaner 3.2.0 to remove legacy parts and entries. Then grab 13.12 WHQL or the 14.1 beta and install that.

Chastity, I do have the creative software installed with your creative Win7update drivers that you supplied on ASUS forum. Is this still OK? or just don't mess with the creative anymore if I decide to do a Fresh install? I guess I'm getting lost here with this G73jh as you shouldn't have to mess with all these little details for a stable laptop as I have been building desktops since the 80's and never had a satiability issue unless it was a faulty Power Supply or CPU or graphics card. I will do the ATI drivers you mention and go from there as the only issue I have is the GSOD maybe 6 times a month give or take using the OD2 VBios and the 213Bios.

If there is anything else please inform me, I have the original drivers disk for all the other drivers unless you have all your drivers that you could supply me in a Zip?

So you have a stable G73jh?

I just want to enjoy some RPG without any worries anymore.

Hey Chastity, good to see you are still around posting! :hi2: I don't visit here too often, so it's not you, it's me. :D I want to thank you for the OD2 vBIOS though. I finally installed mine a few months ago and really appreciate the improvements!

    Chastity,

It still GSOD twice today and that's just during a introduction of 2 different games before I actually even get into the main menu and play. Its been doing this randomly since I bought this g73jh-A1 off E-bay. That's when the temps are at idle still at 54c give or take.
    .12
It must be a Glitch with the card, as most G73jh owners never have the GSOD after the first V-biosa released, and I'm using the od2_Fix and did at least 5 clean installs with and without the creative software with the windows7update you had posted for the creative on ASUS forum. ATI Beta 14.1 and I have tried the 13.12 before with a clean install back in July.

Some say there is 2 Revisions of the ASUS ATI 5870m and mine ends with the C2 on the serial or C4 which I read are Problematic for the GSOD.

    What do you Think(Input) Chastity?

    Thanks

    Hi Duane,
I got a G73JH pre-vbios fix, and while it ran happily with no GSOD after, from about Catalyst 12.x onwards (can't recall exactly which) I got intermittent GSOD unless I set the core frequencies above stock (805 or 825 core works for me, memory staying at 1000). Interestingly I found that it only GSOD now if I watch a video, either in a browser or using a player, then load a game after. If I do a fresh boot then load up a game no GSOD. Strange, but I never get a GSOD while playing a video, only in a game after watching one. It isn't always, but annoying, so now I do a clean boot before gaming.

No big hassle as I have an SSD, so boot time under 20 seconds.

You could use AMD GPU tool to try different frequencies of Core/Memory. One you find ones that seem to produce less/no GSOD you can set it in the overdrive in the Catalyst Control Centre.

Check by running the intro to the game that produces GSOD what frequency the card is running at, that'll give you an idea whether the problem is when the card is at full power, or at the mid point for video playing. Good luck!
