Would I need this if I have a G73JW? Also would the software work on my Alienware M17X R2?

The Jw series comes with the updated MB2 software, so no.

Is there still no trial or purchase option for JH users on the MB2 software package? I'm assuming there is more features in that package over the 1.1 package. Perhaps not anything too impressive, but if I am shelling out money for software, I would like the latest.

One thing at a time. You have to understand that there are some issues at hand:

    1) Creative is not being very generous on the pricing
    2) The Sandy Bridge fiasco is not helping either, since that is going to bleed profits.

As would be the case for fixing all of the defective g73s prior to the vbios update, which EVENTUALLY happened ... but asus didn't do that :(

I'm really happy they're stepping up for the sandybridge thing. I wonder if they would if intel was more like nvidia, and required a lawsuit to prove their liability.

I tried what you just suggested, and the clocks stays where ever I set them with AMD clock tool. I am using stock Vbios, and Video card drivers and have removed Power4Gear.
    BIOS is 209

No I did not realize that, Thanks for the info.
Congrats on you moderator position in the ROG and your amazing array of knowledge. I supported PC's in a corp environment for quite a while, and you seem to have forgotten more that I will ever know about computers. I probably would have sold my machine w/o your help and many others in the forum!

Then you'll have an option in the catalyst control panel that will let you run overdrive.

I think it died on Creative's desk. At this point, $19 for the X-Fi MB upgrade (or coughpatchcough) is the way to go.

Hmm what is it under? I just recently installed 11.2 from I believe something like 10.8 and since then the control panel has been changed. Only overdrive option I see is something for LCD overdrive. Is there a way to find out what the Vbios version is?

You can get the vBIOS version either by booting to the BIOS, or using apps like HWINFO32 or GPU-Z in Windows.

    HWINFO32 states this;

    Video BIOS Version: 012.020.000.032.038352

Weird because overdrive still isn't showing up.

Makou did you use the VBIOS in the link in Chastity's signature :
Modded v93 vBIOS with lower timings for battery life (updated)
http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/fix_od2.rar When I open this in RBE (add. features tab) OD is set up 875/1300 ...

I have the same Vbios as you and if I look at the rom file I used for the update in RBE it clearly states that OD is not able to be found... (That is fine with me I do not want to overclock )
    Hope this helps, Josea

The stock beta vBIOS has Overdrive disabled. You would need to use one of my releases, or mod your own, to get Overdrive.

Ah thanks guys for clearing that up. So what exactly is the problem with using AMD GPU Tool for clocks and such? Sometimes I've had to use it to set the clocks back to normal during a game as I would notice an obvious fps drop.

i am using amd gpu clock tool for overlocking the gpu only before i play a game ... if i feel the need of OC
after i finish the game i set my clocks on defaults
    simple and safe

overdrive made my clocks get stack on 800mhz (core) and i think the memory wasn't clocking properly (so you will get higher clocks and higher temperature until you restart your machine ... still don't get it why it is an option
if it doesn't work like it should so stop confusing people :)

    damn it :)
    it doesn't work
am i the only one that sees that overdrive doesn't work like it should ...
    i've tried it again
after pressing apply my clocks jumped immediatelly and didn't downclock
    restarted and they were defaults
then i think i opened CCC and they jumped to the overdrive value and they are not downclocking :)

i want proof that it works :)
    video would do the job

Do you maybe have Firefox 4 open when you're doing those tests? FF4 (and many others) use GPU acceleration now and thus the GPU will be clocked higher all the times.

Btw. here it seems to work. Now with IE9 open and no other application, clock is 405MHz. Then I opened FF4 and clock jumped to 700MHz, put FF4 to background or close it and clock goes down to 405MHz again.

Something similar happens with Opera. Open a new tab and it clocks to 700MHz then down to 405MHz. I will create a GPU-Z log file while running furmark to see if the clock stays at 700 or downclocks once in a while when i repaste (the paste should arrive next week) since right now my memIO temps are through the roof. Like 75 dispIO and 93memIO...
