5 more days later and where are they at now?

Any updates? This is becomming long and very stupid... a simple matter which should have been solved by now...
-
-
Yeah it would be nice to know what was up and ongoing with this.
At least when you have news on where they are on this issue it makes it easier to wait. Sometimes you think they have forgot about us and are just hoping it will go away! -
Does anyone know where I can just download the software? I really dont care if I have to pay (someone said its 30 bucks? Who cares) I just picked this laptop up for a little less than 2 grand and I just want it to perform at top quality, thats the reason I bought this thing in the first place, it was supposed to be the best production laptop for gaming....
-
last update was that Creative and Asus were haggling over licensing cost. That was about 2 weeks ago.
-
It's funny how asus cakes in so much bread and yet can't give back to their consumer's a little something back.
-
Come on guys, the patience level around here is close to nil. Give these things time to happen.

7 more days since my last 5 more days post.

Got an update from Gary last week:
-
So we have a NoteBook that came with software that did not work, and now we are going to have to pay for the software to make it work as it was supposed to?
I hate to say this but I am not to happy about this news. And I think most of us have been very good at waiting for ASUS to resolve this issue and all the other ones that we have had to deal with. We have touch pads that are not working as they should, to the point we have to turn them off to be able to type faster than two finger hunt peck. Or we have keys stop working in some software because of an IRQ conflicts. We have had to reflash the Video Bios to get the system to work with the newer drivers. And it was because of a timing issue with the video card that was put into our machines. And when flashing the Vbios we where told we are on our own as ASUS would not stand behind there own fix.
Many of us have had to wait weeks on end to get absolutely brand new out of the box Notebooks fixed by the repair centers that would not work from the very first boot up, some have had to do this multiple times.
And now we are told we are going to have to pay for drivers to make our systems work as they where sold to us!
Does anyone else have a problem with this? Or am I miss understanding what is being said here.
Did Creative sell sound drivers that did not work to ASUS? Or did ASUS use out of date drivers to save money? The G73 Systems that where displayed at the Tech shows worked and had the latest drivers. The Tech write up's where done on machines that worked as there where no complaints about hardware not working as it should, but when we read all about the systems and went and bought the G73's we found that we had systems that did not work or work as advertised .
I am going to have to think about this and see what others have to say, and hopefully we will hear from Gary on all of this in a post informing us what is going to be done and how much longer this is going to take.
I have been purchasing ASUS hardware for years and pushing there equipment for the same amount of time, but I think I am about to the point where I will not buy or endorse there company any more! I know that that in just myself will not have any impact on there company, but I do not want to be responsible for having someone buy ASUS products and they end up with something like we have now in the G73 products .
And thanks Chastity for posting the information here of what you found so we would at least know something about what is going on. -
mindinversion Notebook Evangelist
The audio card in the G73 is *NOT* a creative labs card. It's a realtek HD audio card. The creative software included with the G73 is compatible with the realtek audio card, and is used to [at least in theory] augment and enhance the sound said audio card produces. The drivers, by comparison, are released by realtek and are there so the computer knows what hardware is installed and how to make it work.
While this software is compatible as-is, there is also the capability to run full Creative X-fi software [which includes enhanced features such as crystalizer]. The hope was that Asus would be able to negotiate license for current G73 owners to upgrade to this tier of creative software to enhance the Realtek card. Unfortunately, from the sound of it creative is still being run the same as ever, and as a result these negotiations are more than likely going to fall through. -
It's sad but I have to agree with BattleNut. It looks like that even if we buy the best and most expensive goods from ASUS, their official support ends right when leaving store with a new laptop. God bless few unofficial supporters like Gary.
I mean GSOD problem and unofficial vBios as well. -
I know who made the Audio card, I am speaking of the Audio software and the other issues we have had with this Notebook.
The point is this Notebook was sold to all who bought it as a working system, and in large quite a few of us have not had a fully working system.
On top of waiting for months for fixes from the company, not all but most fixes have been found by users in this forum and a few others.
And out of 12 G73's and there owners that I have had contact with, only one has not had any problems, and that is not counting how many that come here trying to find a fix .
On top of that the ASUS forum was shut down without warning and there was not a link put up to any other site to get help for the owners of this Notebook.
I think we as owners have been more than accommodating on these and other issues regarding the G73 Notebook.
And I am not blaming Gary for what has happened, in fact as far as I can tell he is the only one from ASUS that has done anything to try to get us help. But something needs to be done to get this resolved if ASUS is not going to be forth coming on getting these issues fixed. -
a couple of days can be anything from 1 day to 365 days
-
That news is a realtek pisser. As for this being a realtek chip sound board that may be true but it is also a 3 speaker system, please show me in the realtek software where I can adjust the bass sub? Asus had a plan that needed creative software to run the hardware they installed in here. Give a trial link for the creative software if it's not to pricy i'll pay for it myself.
-
I agree, it would be great to get a trial offer with the capability of purchasing the full license. I would be intereted and willing to invest my own cash.
Thanks for your work and attention to this - It is highly appreciated!!!

Creative has said back to Asus that the Audigy package is "compatible enough", but with newer Reaktek driver updates, and with apps like Steam, it's been demonstrated that there are issues. Issues that Gary agreed were enough to warrant an update, and thus his attempts to get updated software.
I'm more upset with Creative in making a huge issue over this by making the licensing fees apparently unacceptable. This also means the only recourse we have now is to use Daniel_K's X-Fi MB 1.1 software package until something changes. -
-
From my discussions with Asus on the matter, they were told by Creative that the Audigy MB software was Win 7 compatible, and Asus went ahead and licensed the software.
History has demonstrated that the compatibility was not so. Dell acquired an update on the 1.0 package to make it Vista compatible, and no update was made for Win 7. Unfortunately the Dell update doesn't recognize our license.
However, I did find on the Creative forum that Daniel_K, back in May, made a Win7 Upgrade package for Audigy MB. I'm running it at the moment, and all seems ok. You need to install this over your existing Audigy MB software since it requires the license that the original install provides.
Audigy MB Win7 Update
Extract the package into a directory, and then run the normal installer. Reboot, and then go back into the directory, and go into /Drivers . There you will find an executable called FixAMD64.exe. Run this as well, and your upgrade is complete.
Feedback on success and any issues would be appreciated. -
Hi Chastity, thanks for the tips.
Just made the (supposed) update. So far, seems to works. Let me explain in details.
I use to used the X-Fi mod plus th modded 2.48 realtek drivers posted here in the forum to have X-Crystalyzer activated in my Creative Console Center. So far, everything works perfect with this package. Bass, EQ, Crystalizer, SVM and CMSS-3D. They are activated and totally functional in the console.
Now I apply the update that you post, right over the previous installation.
Decompress the file
Run Setup.exe from folder
Restart
Now from /drivers I apply amd64fix.exe
Ready to use
The patch seems to update only audio/core files, because nothing seems to be different for me from outside. I look forward this update improve the crappy Creative integration with win7 x64.
BTW, I'm still on modded 2.48.
Best. -
Nekki: This update is for the original Audigy HD MB software that came with the laptop, not the X-Fi MB software package.
-
I notice no change from the original. But then again, everything in the original worked for me, using driver 2.54 from Realtek.
-
Thank you for the creative work around fix for windows 7 link. Installed today will try later. -
IMO , this is pretty much asus's fault for not just agreeing to creative price and just getting it.... its really simple u know... just if asus wants to spend money or not.. after all the G73 debacles , this is the least they can do.
Leopard 2 -
Rock on Chastity, you're a bit of an activist! Getting stuff done! +1
-
nothing been done yet for your info... she+gary are all trying but its been 3 months and no updates... asus and creative need to sort it out... asus especially as they're responsible for proper software being given to us as advertised...
-
-
It's an update to make the program more Win 7 compatible.
-
It worked once for EAX features, then had to reinstall the OS (from an image of the previous one that worked just fine no less) and it wouldn't work after that... No changes...
In other words, it is NOT Windows 7 compatible. If it were it would work ALL the time. If it works, count your blessings, but the rest of us bought a computer that states it is supplied with it and it works, and it obviously does not. -
Thank you Chastity! Advance merry christmas!
-
Yawnn... Still no new software... This thing is my only issue with Asus.. They need to fix this!

When I go into creative audio center and select the speakers and go into Bass Settings and "enable bass boost" the program crashes, is this normal? Also the computer came with Creative ALchemy, but when I run it is gives me an error "The audio device required by this application is not detected. Make sure that the correct audio device is installed properly." I am stock and updated the drivers from this thread, but even before the update it would still give me the same error. This laptop came from BB refurb G73JG with updated 209 bios, but outaded vbios.
-
great job
keep it up
+1 rep -
So to use it or not ? XD
i don't know what it suppose to do so i can check it after installing
What's the creative 1.1 do anyways and why it 30$ and not free. -
Because Creative does not give it away. Asus pays for your license when you buy their hardware. If you want to upgrade, you need a new license. This is why the patcher is popular.
-
EDIT: Awesome. Back to EAX in L4D2... -
there is a place where single user can buy new license (1.1, Xi-Fi or what other else is compatible with g73jh)? -
Install the X-Fi MB 1.1 package. It's a 30-day trial with a Buy link to get a license. You can find it on my Driver Reference page on the asusrog.com forums (sig link below)
-
So anyone paid for this ? and can show me what's the difference between stock to see if i should buy or not ? [JH] Creative X-Fi MB 1.1 package (30-day trial) Updated for Win 7.
I play alot EAX games and when there is one i always play with it on, so i really want the best and the newest always.
Can i use the Creative X-Fi MB 1.1 package (30-day trial) with Realtek 2.56 newest drivers and above ? -
I wouldn't pay for it - Use the update package on the program that ships with the computer.
And yeah, it works with the newer drivers. -
-
So to install X-FI 1.1 i need to unistall the Audigy drivers restart than install the X-Fi 1.1 and that's it ?
cause i don't want to ruin what's already work good. if someone can guide me what i need to do. -
And all is working fine so far .
Also set a restore point so you have another way of getting all back to normal. -
on realtek 2.56
-
-
anyone else?

I installed the "Trial" SB X-Fi MB software that Chastity posted here in this thread.
I get an error - The error you mention above - if I click on the "Volume Panel" and Click on the "Creative Audio Center".
However, if I click the "Volume Panel" and Click "Creative Console Launcher" Or "Creative Audio Console" I must click the "Trial" button and all works as expected.
Not sure if this is the same message you're getting.
