Interesting that that is not bundled in the chipset drivers at the moment. I'll remember that.

So whats the performance if the i5 version like? Anyone know the FPS is gets in games like BF3, and Shogun 2 Total War?

Almost certainly buying this now. Was originally going to buy a super high end laptop, but I have decided to instead get this as a solid-mid range performer, and go balls to the walls with a desktop that has a Titan in it.

Shogun is more about a single powerful thread IIRC, battlefield will suffer a little but still be primarily GPU bound.

I have both and will try to find time to install and test them but I have a fair bit of business travel ahead so it might take me a while. Maybe notebookcheck tested them?

Do you get any stuttering? For me, entering certain areas makes it really choppy on preset.

Yep, as Raptor says, runs great! I have v-sync enable and it rarely drops under 60FPS w/ Ultra/High mix of settings... no complaints at all, and a fun game I might add.

Worked fine while Skyping home from the USofA.

Was one of the main reasons for swapping my M11x, the wife had an HP E-350 powered laptop and pretty much every time she tried to Skype the camera would fail, so she now has the M11x while l will be using the G46VW to Skype back home while OOA later this year.

If you look at the hidevolution website it says April 10th for the HD+ screen. I can't wait to see reviews about the screen, but I honestly think it's not going to be a good quality screen just a higher resolution screen. I hope I'm wrong though

I wonder if they will wait for the nvidia refresh since it will be a drop in replacement and bios update (for them since it's soldered).

Oh wow, thanks for the pictures. Didn't know that the GPU was soldered in. I wonder if the 700m series is going to be the same. I'm personally going to give my brother this laptop as a graduation present and go for the upgrade on haswell and 700m series (assuming they are doing a revision v2) So by looking at the pictures the GPU and CPU have individual heat sinks and fans? I was told that he CPU and GPU were both on the same heat sink, but have dual-fans

The 700M series is only for GT class GPUs. The GTX line like the GTX660m will likely still carry on until there is a new architecture.

The only thing the 700M series brings are "boosted" versions of the old GT 600M series (slightly higher clocks and more fine grained power tuning). They're made for light to midrange laptops. No new nvidia architecture is going to happen until 2014 (Maxwell).

So the 700m series like the 750m for example will perform about the same as the 660m?

There will be GTX versions of 700m, just haven't been announced yet.

Yes, likely. Possibly slight clock bumps.

is there any difference inside the chips other than rebranding and clock bumps, if it's clock bumps then oc the 660m n it will be close to 760m right? but i think there's little more to it, anyways it's not worth to ugprade every time they release a series, better to wait for complete new nvidia architecture, that's when it shows a real difference

Hey Jw, I referenced your asus opening a few times last night. I dropped in i7-3610QM and runs well. Thanks for it.

Somebody asked about Bioshock Infinite, yeah it runs well on mostly highs with a few things here and there turned off for smooth 60FPS at 1366x768.

Also for Bioshock infinite standard benchmark at high preset, the i7 vs i5 there is not much of a difference. Average FPS is nearly the same. When I get home I'll post the benchmarks. However I didn't do a ultra with the i5 to compare how the i7 does when maxing out the GPU. But yeah, i5 is more than capable for most graphics heavy games.

Cheeky i7 3630QM picked up cheap from the bay, Clevo P170EM will be upgraded with this, and will stick the i7 3610QM into the Asus 46VW (ps just don't tell the wife lol)

hey guys, I need some help with testing the USB 3.0 ports on the G46, I bought a 3.0 external hdd and pluged in a wildfire SSD on it. on my desktop's usb 3.0 ports i got read and write speed for 240 mbs/ 120mbs ( tested with crystal disk)

however when i connect it to the G46 it shows a warning that "this device could perform faster if you connect to a super speeed usb 3.0 port" -___- all the usb on this is 3.0 and i have installed every single driver available out there for usb 3.0 none of it is working... i was just wondering if it's my computer usb ports are defective or it's a driver issue that none's been released by asus yet.

*drivers i have installed Asmedia ASM 104x usb 3.0 host controller driver*
*Intel usb 3.0 extensible host controller driver* tried both 1.08 and 1.06 but no luck..

I have tried Asmedia asm driver alone, and intel has been installed since day 1.. I'm certain that the cable i'm using is 3.0 too.. along with everything could go a higher speed because dekstop disk bench was 240

Just registered to say I bought this notebook last week and thanks to JwPwns and others in this thread I installed an Intel 120GB SSD today. Good night it is awesome! I've never had something so fast.

I couldn't figure out how to boot from the SSD and install Windows 8 so I just cloned the C: drive using Paragon OS to SSD. Once I had a copy I restarted and changed the boot options and then formatted the 750GB HD. I have a few games on the SSD and I have about 23GB left so I have some more space before I move over to the media drive.

Also, the G46 wouldn't recognize my SSD until I formatted it using Disk Manager. So if anyone reads this and can't find the drive, make sure you format it in Disk Manager or you may not see it.

Had a quick Google for you JwPwns, one can only assume it is laptop side as you get higher speeds on the desktop.

Are you sure it is a USB 3.0 (Blue) cable you are using? As the speeds you are getting are iirc USB 2.0(ish).

Unfortunately all my SSD's are now inside my multiple systems so have nothing l can whip out and compare atm.

    Hope you get it sorted.

    Regards.

yeah, I'm positive it's a usb 3.0 cable because it has 9 pins and it worked to 240mb/s on desktop usb ports but somehow with the g46 it goes usb 2.0 speed. I have alllllllllllllllllll the drivers installed every single one that i could get my hands on lol but so far none of it is working. I will try it on windows 8 to see if the problem's usb 3.0 with win 7 because that's got lots of troubleshoot out there n none of them is working

Not sure if you are running 7 or 8, but on Windows 8 Pro, I've got a newish WD Passport external HDD that does not throw up that message running USB 3.0, and performs as expected. All usb ports on mine work just fine with 3.0 without issue (also using a blue 3.0 cable), might be a Windows 7 issue? I did also have my Samsung 840 Pro in an enclosure to format before I sold it, and performance was noticeably better than 2.0 speeds without the message you are getting as well.

Curious, try it with 8... good luck!

It's possible it's a slight incompatibility issue between the enclosure and the controller, but lets see what 8 does.
