Yeah but it also has a numpad (which i dispise on laptops since i never had one on the older laptops ive had even my envy 14 was perfect)

and its thick and chunky.. Find me the exact same 15 inch with the same weight and no numpad and i have a winner.. But it seems i'm in the smallest group of people that doesnt like a numpad or chunky laptops. (If i had the money id go and buy a Razer Blade 2 right this second.)

Clevo is all about customizing isnt it? Why cant i say hey clevo I want this one laptop spec'd out to how I want it.. A barebones 14 inch with any parts i can throw in it with a decent cooling setup. Thats how custom laptop companies should work.. But they dont. Especially clevo who makes laptops for everyone else it seems..

The razer blade does have a number pad, the touch screen turns into one at the click of a button.

Ill make that exception because its not a hard placed keypad that I would never use that would just waste space.. it actually has a purpose.

I'm surprised that Asus hasn't released any official specs on this laptop what with the launch of Windows 8 being less than 3 weeks away. I wonder if the resellers like xoticpc, gentech or powernotebooks know anything.

there is hardly anything to be surprised at this notebook, we aint expecting anything further from a 660m. Now if the 670mx appears that would be a wonderful surprise, one which we doubt about since that is going to be as high as the g55 and g75 will go.

regarding cpu, its all the same

regarding ram, its all the same

regarding ports, some usb3 there, dp probably, a vga might be an option, an odd is quite possible and some other stuff

regarding weight we aint expecting anything lower than 3kg, otherwise it wouldnt be ''rog'' (ripping of gamers)

regarding bulkiness its going to be large, larger than a lot of 15'' and thick, but weight matters more in portability or the lack of there off

What concern me the most are the resolution and the price. I hope it will have a 1600x900 screen. 1366x768 wouldn't cut it for me. And a price hovering around $1000-$1100 would be great but i doubt it would be that low.

ah yes the res and the price... well the price, since ripping of gamers brand got more attention they are increasing the price at each new model launched. What was a extremely great buy in 2010 is a terrible one in price vs performance ratio right now. So no Im on the same team as you I dont believe it will be cheap, and I dont believe they can push more than what people pay for the m14x, unless they pack more guts in there, and lets face its a 15'' chassis, they can pack whatever the hell they want in there, minus dual gpu systems

regarding the res, lets hope its something decent

pfft ,look at the thickness, just get a 15" sager/y580 and it will look less bulky.
And 660m is mere a higher clocked 650m, which is not surprise consider how much cooling it pack with almost 2 inch think body..... stick a 670mx in there, then we have discussion.

This G46VW is probably a better choice than the G55/75, it's got Optimus... And lower resolution screen, means it can run almost any games in ultra mode at 1366 x 768 as its native resolution. 660M wasn't meant for 1080P gaming anyway.

Floptimus is a reason NOT to buy a notebook. I thought the G75 added Floptimus? If not I may buy one. The entire reason I went with a G74 over an M17x was the lack of Floptimus on the G74.

G75 doesn't have integrated GPU enabled. Also right now Optimus is very mature compared to 1 year ago, working as it should and having 3-4 hours on battery mode and plug-in when you want to game is a pretty good idea. If it doesn't work for you firstly you need to check the profile for the common programs you use and see if any of them are correctly assigned to the GPU that they are supposed to run on.

A common error first timers make is that they didn't check the profile for Steam and Adobe reader in NVIDIA control panel, ended up having the dGPU to turn on when those 2 programs are launched and result in little battery life.

That's GREAT news that the G75 doesn't have it! I know of quite a few others that bought G74's explicitly to avoid Optimus. Just wish it had a better GPU option...not that the GTX 660 or 670 are BAD by any stretch, but still...

Good to hear Optimus is getting less painful, but still something I don't want to risk if I don't have to, and it doesn't benefit me at all. Heck, I don't even want to put up with Intel's lower quality video.

The good thing having the integrated GPU working besides the dedicated GPU is that you can assign tasks related to word processing/ Operating system/ Movies/ Pictures to run using the integrated GPU and leave the dedicated GPU to run only the 3D applications like games, pro software etc. That way you can make sure they don't interfere, watching a film smoothly/browsing the internet using the iGPU while gaming in ultra mode using the dGPU became possible.

This could have been such a nice laptop, but with that resolution I'll keep looking : /
I want at least FullHD for browsing and movies, and with a GTX660M it can handle many games at that resolution too.
    Such a wasted chance...

Depends on the games and the settings you use, for people that are used to HD7970M/GTX 680M, some of them would say that GTX 660M is simply not for 1080p, especially those who love playing in Ultra mode.

With nVIDIA cards, you already have FXAA and AA is not really that much of a need when you run games at 1080p on 15'' - . If you disable PhysX in addition, you'll have decent FPS in most games.
If the cooling is good on the G46, you can overclock it with msi Afterburner too :)

If one's interested in ultra settings, then this laptops is not optimal.

GTX 660M extreme OC can come to the level of a GTX 675M (Fermi), that'll indeed handle 1080p at normal setting for most of the games with FXAA turned on and MSAA/CSAA disabled. However, some people don't really like FXAA and prefer the real MSAA/CSAA, which looks a lot shaper, FXAA messes with 2D stuff in game is one of the reason they hate FXAA too (text and stuff). For PhysX it is pretty much up to the user.

This is very true. But GTX 660M can handle ultra setting at 1366 x 768 smooth like silk :D.

1080p is too much on a 14". 900p would have been perfect but the 768p sucks lol

    @ hackness
Yes, I know ;) The GTX 660M is more suited for the average gamer, not the hardcore or demanding ones.

    @ Colpolite
No, 1080p is not too much on a 14'' laptop. Windows 8 has improved scaling of programs and text, so it will only be handy. Microsoft is also working on improving it further. I think the "roof" is hit at 2560x1440 for up to 18'' laptops. You won't see the pixels unless you're awkwardly close to the screen. I agree that 720p-768p is not good enough.

That 1366x768 resolution is disappointing. I was hoping for at least 900p to match the Alienware m14x. Does anyone think any of the resellers like xoticpc or gentechpc will be able to offer a 900p screen upgrade?

Depends on whether they have to and are able to supply the 40-pin LVDS which are needed for most 900p screens.

A few places in Portugal have also put it up for pre-order, so far there are two configurations available, the only difference I see is that one comes with 128GB SSD+750GB 7200rpm and the other one with just the 750GB hdd.
I guess it comes without an optical disc drive on both configurations, that way it has room to house the 2 HDDs.

    G46VW-W3052H 750GB
Asus G46VW-W3052H, Computador Portátil. Comprar na Fnac.pt | ( Google Translate)

    G46VW-W3048P 128GB SSD+750GB
    MHR - Portátil 14" ASUS G46VW-W3048P | ( Google Translate)

The screen res is indeed a let down.

I haven't been up to date in the G series specs since i bought my G73 in 2010, but th G46 will come with an AC Adapter rated up to 180W, my G73 was just 150W, I was expecting that a few years, some die shrinks and a smaller screen would make that lower, not higher.

Its not 2 HDD, its one HDD with one mSATA device.
In Portugal for what i have seen there are 2 options, one with SSD and another without the SSD mSATA.

by the way, dont see a big problem with the resoluttion, and i come from a Asus F8SN with 1440x900.

I have not decided yet what notebook will i buy, but this is on the top of the list.

I dont see a resolution problem since the notebook for me is going to be use more for gaming and work, not so much of video.

Im still lookint at the N56VZ and others but this is at the top.

Oh, and it will be available from 6 November.

EDIT: One problem for me is that the top keys ( F1, F2, etc... ) are to close to the screen. dont know if anyone noticed that.

So far just a bunch of product reveals about ASUS' Vivo line of tablets and ultrabooks. Not sure if we will get any info on the G-Series since this was supposed to be an event to unveil the Vivo lineup, but hopefully some news leaks.
