Indeed it is very quite, even at load. I just expect total silence at idle, thats why I have a complaint![]()

Depending on game the GPU temp is between 70C and 85C so it is still under the throttle level.
I have also noticed that Bioshock seems a bit smoother on my fullHD 3D LG TV (connected via HDMI) than on my laptop screen ... (it is still stuttering when I hit 40 FPS, but while 60 FPS it looks a bit smoother) -

i had a look on this guide when i re-installed mine. tried it with other newer drivers as well, but except for the rapid storage driver wich i didn update to the latest version i used all asus drivers here.
the RST driver update really made a difference here when benchmarking the raid0 and for me the RST driver that asus gave didnt have a fast way to change the cache setting in the rst control center ( write back cache)

they also have 1 for installing windows 7 i think -
i have a quick questiona s well, did anyone upgrade these sandisk m.2 disks to other ones? cause im thinking of upgrading them with for example the new crucial m550's. would i see a difference with these or would it be the same as the sandisk ones? cause in my previous laptop i had a 840 pro with rapid mode and that almost felt faster with a reboot and all then this asus sandisk oem's or would the raid board itself be holding things back?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They would be a bit faster yes.
-
thanx for the info Meaker, will upgrade soon here

With samsung 840 pro, my boot time is around 4 seconds. Unbelieveable.

Is it not possible to just burn recovery disks within windows 8 and reinstall that way when adding an SSD?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You should be able to since the key is in the bios. Are you having issues?

I could use some help, I bought a Samsung evo 500gb, installed it without a hitch, (swapped the old hdd to the other sata slot) installed windows and asus drivers, so far so good everything works perfect, until I realize that my hdd (which is now in the second sata slot) is not detected, checked in the bios and everywhere I could think of and still nothing, so I swapped my SSD and HDD around several times, both of them work perfectly in the the primary sata bay, it's that second sata bay that doesn't appear to be working, ended up taking the laptop appart to see if it could be a connector somewhere but everything seemed fine, any Ideas maybe I have to install some driver or something ?

Yep sounds like a hardware issue to me too. It should show up in the bios.
-
Hmm I figured as much was hoping there was some other way, and yeah I think that sata port was busted since day 1, is Asus Warranty International? bought mine in France and I am moving to South Africa in a couple of days, also is Asus Warranty reliable I have heard so many horror stories that I am relunctant to send it backs seems like I could be better off having that sata port not working vs those idiots breaking even more, and keeping my laptop for weeks and weeks .
Anyways thanks for the help mates -

i have a question about the installed ME firmware on the g750jz, would it be safe / wise to update the firmware to the latetst wich is: Version 9.1.2.1010 or would that harm my laptop in any way? on my previous clevo machine i did some updates for it and never had an issue with it
EDIT 25-08:
Ok i updated the firmware and had no issues whatsoever -
Is it me, or Win 8 runs better on this laptop, than Win 8.1?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
8.1 is a funny old update, some people just seem to have issues with it where as others have no issues at all.

I know you all probably hate comparison questions. But I've been thinking hard about the N550JK. They have the D74 variation which has a 256 SSD and 16 gb RAM. Everybody seems to have that model for $1399. But I've come across a G750JS fthat I can get for a hundred dollars less than that. It only has 12 gig of RAM instead of 16 has a 7200 rpm 750 gig HDD instead of the SSD but has the GTX870 with 3 gig of memory. Thoughts on these two? Can you talk both about the difference as mid-range gaming laptops, but also just a every day multip-media machines. Will the HDD instead of the SSD and the drop from 16 to 12 gig of RAM make a noticeable difference in every day tasks - video streaming, financial spreadsheets, photoshopping, etc.?

The G750 is better if you dont mind a larger machine. Two different classes so it comes down to what you need.

A tue new generation is not silly waiting for.

I'd like a smaller, lighter laptop. But I switched to a Galaxy tablet for when I'm travelling and I only use my laptop at home, in my lap. So a few more pounds won't likely matter. 17 inches sounds big for a laptop screen size, but I might actually grow to like something that big I think. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If mobility is not so important then going bigger has its advantages.
-
Ok. I'm now thinking really seriously about a g750js. The configuratipn I'm looking at does not come with an ssd. But I really like the idea of being able to boot up in just a few seconds, and the other advantages of an ssd. Can you give me an idea of how hard it would be for a non technical type to swap out the hdd it comes with and replace it with an ssd. Are there step by step directions somewhere or youtube videos that would walk me through it? It's not just the physical swap I'm worried about. It's reinstalling the operating system andcgetting evrything working properly again.

Buy a so called "notebook kit" SSD. They normally come with a Sata <--> USB adapter and a cd (or download link) for some disk cloning software. That way you simply connect the new disk to the running laptop with the adapter, install the software, start the migration (it will reboot and copy all the data) and after the data migration turn of the laptop. Then you remove the power + battery, remove the bottom cover of the laptop, remove the old harddisk, insert the ssd at the same place, close the cover, add battery and power and you're done with the migration.

jwilock the new G laptops have already been leaked. Maybe you should wait? O_O

Actually not even a wire. Just a few screws, remove the caddy with the disk in it, remove screws and the same backwards with the new disk.

Yes it's designed to be upgradable by the user so take your time aand it will be a simple job.

Lol, I've been waiting for more than 3 years now for a new laptop. Is this 1299 dollars or some other currency?
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M - NotebookCheck.net Tech
As long as your happy with the framerates for various games listed above then go for it I guess. The 970m will likely retail for the same price as the G750JS originally sold for. However its been benchmarked to be 40%+ faster than the 870m. -

Usually models replace their middle digit counter parts.

Good just as said not long from being replaced. But if you have a lower budget now can be a goof time.

just put in an order for a g750js refurb from newegg. i was really wanting the n550jk since they just came back in stock today. i've gott the q550lf and love that ips screen and use the touch way more than i expected, esp since i hate any trackpad. but at just $100 more than a n550jk, faster hd, better gpu, more expansion, 12gb ram, bigger(not better though) screen, it was kinda hard to turn down.
crossing my fingers for no probs as newegg has no refund on the refurb. -
...and the day I get mine delivered the brand new version goes on sale for $30 more than my refurb, lol. no biggie, just hope any issues pop up within 90 days. so far I'm happy. stress tested the gpu for 30min and topped at 78c. biggest dislike is the screen. not just the fact that it's not ips but the freaking vertical lines caused by the blue pixels. if they just staggered them a bit this woukdn't be an issue. then again it's only an issue on light colored solid scenes. so web browsing it's noticable, but gaming not at all.
so, pretty happy with my purchase so far even though I missed a sale. browsing life says I have 6hrs of life. only on vattery for an hour though. I almost always have my screen at 0% on all my devices. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Nice temps there
That battery life should be doable, it sounds about right. You can perhaps replace the screen in the future if you like.

Hey guys. Can't seem to find any support for this issue online so i wanted to ask this community. I have the ASUS ROG G750JM with 12GB RAM and 1TB HDD. The screen is amazing.... except when it's trying to display shades of light and dark. Regular internet browsing and games are fine, but watching movies is kinda terrible... Nice bright scenes do just fine. and I KNOW that the movie files are in 1080p and of good quality, because I've played them on my TV and they do just fine. BUT when a movie has a dim or dark scene (when lighting is scarce) or its just trying to display the color black sometimes it looks like freaking 480p!!! Take a look at these screenshots, and hopefully you can tell me what the problem is and how to fix it. *Note* I have a temporary fix... use intel display settings to put brightness down to -30. That makes the dark scenes perfectly fine, but then then rest of the movie suffers obviously.
