Clevo never promised any sort of upgrade option for the desktop-CPU based laptops. MSi on the other hand, did.

Whoaaaa, hold on there Tex, you and the Clevo gang are always riding into town, and shooting off your mouths at how great Clevo was (note the was) at being Upgradeable.

You went on and on and on and on and on (lots more and on's), about how cool it was that Clevo's MXM cards were upgradeable and how they had a long service life because you could upgrade the GPU.

It was a long established line of BS that Clevo was an upgradeable platform, and all the people that bought in to it, literally with Cash $$$$, got screwed by Clevo.

And, it was a designed intentional incompatibility, both physically and circuit-wise.

The MXM cards and Chassis were modded just enough to make it infeasible to upgrade the P870DM and other Clevo MXM bearing chassis.

It's a fantasy that now has no support. Clevo killed your dream.

And, now you are sticking up for them?

    Wake up.

i am never into MSI, when one company make a good product, i'd praise it.

clevo is good because of 6700k desktop CPU, u can try to get a better silicon chip and u have the freedom to swap it, ihave explained b4 right? that I take GPU value A LOT less than CPU/storage. clevo didn't think far enough that there won't be any 1080m going forward, though there are still AMD graphics, just not as powerful, an upgrade over old 980m? maybe a little but still count as upgrade.

besides, the CPU upgradability in clevo laptop is non-existent to begin with, and intel made sure of that, next gen CPU number of pins will be different. intel controls it, not clevo nor msi. @hmscott did MSI made u lose your cool brother? you're blaming on the wrong companies man, not MSI/clevo, but rather nvidia decided to not make any 1080m, and u can probably bet on very similar reason why intel wants control with bga junk: MORE MONEY FOR THEM!

The 1060/1070/1080 MXM cards could have been hosted in the previous generation laptops if MSI / Clevo had fitted the MXM cards out to be compatible as part of their design. They didn't, and now the MXM cards available won't work.

Nvidia didn't offer a Pascal MXM design this time, MSI and Clevo did this on their own.

    So you can't blame Nvidia.

That's why I am blaming those responsible, MSI and Clevo.

im not sure if u recall, back when gt80 first came out they promised 2 generation and i came flying in into the thread saying how mxm gonna be 4.0 and 2 gen upgrade is not possible and just an end of the line laptop like the Dell xps m2010. well guess what I was wrong, they continued to use the same mxm 3.0 not 1 or 2 but for 3 years, but after 1st yr nvidia had the dominate market and decided to change form factor on it, with MSI/clevo who buys their product likely have to follow few conditions here and there.

this are unforseen circumstances and can only learn from it, yet GPU side at least there are some improvements while CPU side of things is completely dead end because its SOLDERED. if u can even understand a tiny bit of my ongoing rant about BGA garbage then u'll know full well i sure know what u guys are going through.

and no, 1080 is still pcie 3.0 and the socket it self is the same as 980m, the PCB however is different.

Different because it was laid out to be different. By Clevo for sure, MSI is still unknown.

MSI made the promise to provide 2 generations of GPU MXM upgrades, MSI knew what they had and they knew what was coming, and Pascal fits the requirements to be compatible to create backward compatible MXM upgrade cards.

If MSI follows through and delivers the upgrade kits as promised, everything's cool.

Right now, everything is not cool. Update: Cool is beginning to return...

Update: MSI has announced a trade-in program for GT72/GT80 owners:

Official MSI News, Events, and all things MSI.....
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ents-and-all-things-msi.795144/#post-10326272

We started a thread for GT72/GT80 owners to discuss the upgrades:

honest i dont think so. p570wm uses mxm 3.0 which fits up to 980m. someone was trying to fit 980 or 1070 in it. connector portion i think still the same just the size of pcb is different, and of course power usage too.

btw pcie 4.0 might be coming out in a yr or 2 and it'll be able to power 200-300w gpu easily without additional power connector lol.

I kinda don't like how it has to be tethered to get full performance :|

Plus the dock would be extremely difficult to take around without the suitcase...

That's the concept of eGPU's too, why is this not just as cool?

You have far better performance off the hydro-dock than a limited Intel iGPU laptop would have off the eGPU.

It's as awesome as it can be, highest performance when docked, and still high performance when off the dock.

I think it's a great concept and execution, and the metal work and body shape of the laptop are amazing.

The hydro-dock is awesome too. I think Asus did an amazing job of integrating the radiator with the dock.

Is it proven to run faster, on the dock, than a comparable Clevo or MSI?

If not, it's an unnecessary tumor.

Is the MSi GT73 and GT83 confirmed to have 12v fans?

Because prema already confirmed that the fans are 12v instead of 5v on the desktop CPU clevo models.

In the pictures, it looks like they're using two 120mm radiators or 140mm radiators? Most likely the former.

Couldn't someone modify that to use a triple 180mm radiator?

I dont know for the fans but it's sure that some things will be modified since production is delayed In the first quarter of 2017
    (probably February says Asus)
It's long to wait for it but It will be fantastic (~ -20° than the others laptops) and display 18"4 with g-sync and more......
others are 17 " except MSI GT83VR but display not with g-sync, keyboard placed down, touch pad OR numeric keypad.... I dont like this

Well, bringing a notebook to market almost 9 months late is questionable - as by then you have already a new wave of technologies to chase. Now GTX 1080TI in SLI would be something - but that would probably be too much even with water cooling...
