My guess would be the LG panels would have a more recent MFR date or Batch number, should we get a list going with panels, ram, and MFR date/batch number going?
(Get them off the box because people aren't going to be able to look inside without alot of smoothtalking.

Good stuff. I think my other question was forgotten. what kind of warranty did you all get? Did you go with the geeksquad upgraded? Here is my dilemma
$1199.99 for G73JH-RBBX05
$ 299.99 for 2yr accidental warranty through geeks
$ 93.75 tax - damn state!
Total $1593.73
ASUS G73JH-A2 from multiple sellers
$1549.99
$ 0 free shipping
$ 0 tax
2yr accidental warranty through Asus.
The A2 has the 1900x1200 screen, 2nd hard drive, better cam, bluetooth and others I am forgetting.
I understand about the ability to bring it local for problems, but how is BB for service?
Thanks! -
Also the A2 has a 1920x1080 screen. Just want to make sure you know that. -
Get the X3 from tigerdirect with BCB for $1365
-
-
Seriously, we get it. However, your sig says you got an A2 - what's up with you pimping the X3 from TigerDirect? Do as you say, not as you did? -
Other people have, and there's no difference between my A2 and the X3 other than the hard drive sizes.
(and the mouse+backpack, but that has nothing to do with the laptop itself)
I'm more for people getting the best G73JH for their money. -
The X3 might not be a bad deal but according to TD site

Ladies and Gents, if you are in the west coast hurry up and hit Fry's Electronics. I just picked up the G73JH-A1 that came with the Asus backpack and razer(Asus version) with 1TB HD, Bluray, 8gb of RAM at 1920x1080 res. Just to let you guys know that their website specs are incorrect stating 1600x900 res. By the way it comes with 1 yr accidental damage and 2 yrs global warranty from Asus unlike the BBuy editions. I registered mine with Asus online. It also comes with the utility disc. I paid $1699.99 + tax.Good luck
-
Nice Cali tax

Let's keep things ON topic please.

Just an FYI. I went over to BB today with every intent on buying this. When I inquired about the Geeksquad blacktie protection I was surprised at what I heard.
I was looking at the 2yr with accidental damage. Here is the scenario we played out.
I spill liquid on my keyboard and it stops working. I bring it to BB. They will then send it out to their support facility. They will either repair or replace depending on damage. If they are going to replace the turnaround is about 1 week. Now here is the kicker - If they REPLACE it then the $299 extended warranty is now no good, because it is per device. So if they replace I need to spend another $299 to get the same protection.
So the idea of being able to bring it back locally and get it replaced doesnt look valid anymore.
Looking for peoples comments or experiences -
I also had to exchange mine, I was getting crashes where the screen would go black or black and gray striped and not respond. It was the AUO version and I didn't think the screen was that bad once it was adjusted but I now have the LG in the replacement and have to admit that it is better. I don't think it is quite night and day though. If only I could steal the display from one of the Apples...
Has anyone else with the AUO screen also experienced random crashes? Between the crashes (quite a few reports on Best Buy site similar to me) and the screen, I'm wondering if there were "early" and "newer" versions.
I thought about just getting the money refunded and going with the MSI GX640 but I'm glad I didn't. I feel like this one will last me a year before I get the itch (usually 6-9 months) if I add a nice little internet browsing tablet/netbook to compliment.
I'm certainly not a Best Buy fanboy (I prefer the internet sales) but this is a great deal just like the 6800 and 7800 Gateway FX series were. The 6860fx was the only other laptop that lasted a full year for me before I sold it and bought a new one.

$299 for a keyboard seems a bit steep but I would read the policy and make sure it has the type of coverage I want. -
I don't think that is outrageous as long as the replacement happens in good faith and you really understand and accept the terms (including the loopholes).
It is accident, not accidents, protection. $299 is much less than $1199 so it seems more unreasonable to suggest that you can destroy it as many times as you want in 2 years. I'm assuming that if they fix it though, that doesn't void it - only replacements? If you do risky things or have an environment where accidents are likely than $299 might be worth it. All insurance is a scam when you don't need it... you trade some money for security. The real scam happens if the person selling the insurance doesn't live up to their end of the bargain.
For me this is theory though, I never get the coverage...

It's still much better than being out all that money on the product.
I don't bother with extended warranties on computer hardware though. I torture the stuff while it still has store warranty on it and if it makes it through that, it's probably good to go for the long haul. I can handle small repairs on my own, and my own stupidity if I destroy it on my own too. -
And no, I've had no crashes with either model or display at all. It sounds like it was a GPU problem, but highly doubt it was a screen problem. -
I was just trying if there was a pattern.
Apparently the gray screen is an issue with some of the laptops:

I was just searching for a possible pattern, I never suspected the screen was the cause of the crash.

I got my TD X3 today so I decided to pit the screen against my BB 05. To my eyes there doesn't seem to be much of a damn difference at all. I'm running 10.3 on the 05 though and whatever came stock on the X3.
The LG screen seems to be a little brighter than the Hannstar. I also got a 1333MHz RAM with the one from TD.
I know my camera is ty but its the best I have at the moment.
In all the shots the 05 is on the left and the X3 is on the right.Attached Files:

How come plasmas don't suffer from viewing angles like these do? Any way, which one are your going to keep The2ndclory?
-
plasma screens function differently. Google how they work and you'll understand.
-
Now that my X3 is here I'll be getting rid of the BB 05. -

If you're going to take pictures comparing the two displays, why wouldn't you use the same picture/wallpaper?
It does appear the one on the left is brighter, but that could just be the wallpaper bias. -
Edit: I checked and they were both 1 by default.
When I get in tonight I'll try and get some better shots so if anyone else would like to recommend some conditions for a better comparison, go ahead.
I've noticed the hannstar is better on the blacks though. It has a wider viewing angle all around before the blacks start to get washed out. -
-
Yep. My only complaint with having the LG 1600x900. Great color and brightness in return for never fully BLACK BLACKS! -
-
Are you looking to purchase a BB 05 GTO_Greg? If you don't mind one thats a week and a half old you can have mine for what I would consider a pretty good deal.
-
-
So $1200 - $60 = 1140...that's pretty good with bing cashback. Tax does kill it though in CA.
-
Edit: Correction, I did just get the email letting me know I earned 2%. I made the purchase Sunday about noon, the email was sent Monday night, and I just read it here on Wednesday morning. Oh well... -
Order details should include the following:
- Payment method (for example, credit card, PayPal, or bank account)
- Date of purchase
- Order confirmation number
- Order subtotal
- List of the products that you purchased
-
Can someone note some comparison about the quality of the BB version vs the regular X1 or A1/A2?
I heard there's some problem about the screen. (not sure what that is actually). -
