hey guys, i just realized something with my bb g73, when i decided to step up an adhoc network, so i could share my internet connection with a friends laptop, he was detecting it but said there was a type mis-match so i started wondering. so checked my friends laptop and saw that his card is g-type, check my laptop and low and behold i only see b and n support no g.
so imagine my shock after the advertised product with having b/g/n to only see b/n, didnt even know that was possible. so question is, is it that i have to download and reinstall the driver to get the g-type to work and if so, is it the same one from the thread containing the drivers that i would have to use or another one?
-
It is definitely capable of G. I'd guess it was possible for a card to fail or the same for the driver. My suggestion would be to download the current driver from Atheros (I think) and delete the card from Device Manager. Shut down and then reseat the card for completeness, then reboot and reinstall the drivers.
I ended up using a Dell DW1510 for 5ghz, and then buying a new Intel WiFi Link 6300 for the much longer range and high speeds, in addition to 5ghz support. -
oh cool, thank you will do.
-
Yeah, it's almost guaranteed to be a driver issue, otherwise b and n probably wouldn't work at all.

Funny, Best Buy is advertising this computer in this week's ad, but it seems to be impossible to find in stores around where I live (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and where my sister lives (Lancaster, PA)...
-
Yeah, you can't even "add to cart" on any of their NY/MI/MA stores. Either their stocks are completely dried up or they are discontinuing it, but it seems a little too early to prep for the g73jw...
Damnit, I knew I should've gone to pick one up in april... -
I suspect a refresh in hardware. The NY stores get their deliveries usually midweek.
-
Been unavailable for like 2 weeks going on 3 in the Bay Area, CA
-
It's been unavailable for a few weeks in eastern Iowa, also, but it seems kinda early for a refresh. What's a 'g73jw'?

"... a new 17.3″ Asus ROG G73Jw 3D-ready laptop that may come with the recently announced GTX 480M GPU combined with a 1080p 120Hz LCD panel."
This makes me wish I had not bought a couple months back. -
C'est la vie. I'm in the same boat.

Nope, 45 days on all products for Silver premier members. I had to return a Sony i7 at 38 days prior to this laptop being sold at BBY.
-
-
yep- silver is 45 days on ALL purchases
.. used it once at 30days on a g60jx to get my g73

Engadget has some more info from Computex. Freaking WirelessHD, the rest looks the same.

Too bad the cheaper Best Buy model is no longer available online because Microsoft has gone crazy by raising their Bing Cashback up to 20% for Bestbuy.com purchases (Just do a Bing search for the term "3dtv" or "camera" and you'll see it pop up somewhere). I can just imagine how we could have gotten the 05 as $1200 - 20% = $960 + tax after Bing. That would've been tight.
I'm sure the 20% won't last through tomorrow though because last time when a Bing % was this good for a particular merchant it only lasted for 1 day. That's why I'm not even going to make a new thread about it.
The G73JH-RBBX09 is still available, but the screen rez is not 1080p. This may be a positive or a negative to you, depending on how much fps means to you when more graphically-demanding games come out in the years to come, ...or if watching movies in HD is more your thing.Attached Files:

are you sure that the cashback applies to all purchases, and not just only cameras? I tried using cashback when I bought my laptop a month ago when there was a 6% cash back when I searched for TVs under best buy but it didn't end up working.
-
Bing is not 100% without its bugs, but it has worked for most people in the past (according to a deals site I frequent).
What they do is buy an item with free shipping or by using the in-store pickup method and if they don't receive the desired Bing % email in a couple days they then return the item for a refund conveniently at a local BB store (unopened to avoid restocking fee) or they never go pickup the item at all and the charges will drop in 7 days.
Some who are persistent have also taken screenshots of the % shown and contacted Bing customer service about their order to get it honored that way.
Update:
The bing words needed for the search keep changing by the way. Searching for "cameras" may no longer work because too many people were searching for it. Other terms that may work are : projector, ipod, sony ps3, macbook pro, 3dtv, washer, dryer, etc... -
Off Topic:
Just an update on the 20% Bing Cashback for Best Buy, ...it seems to be officially dead now as it has gone back down to 5%.
Oh and I've read that everyone that has tried for the 20% has gotten their confirmation from Bing so far, they just had to wait a while since the Bing system was getting hammered by BB purchases, at least that's what they figured.
If I hadn't already splurged on the g73 I would have made quite a few purchases myself. One deal that had caught my eye in particular was a rebranded ("rebadged"?) Samsung 42" Plasma for $359 after cashback. -

Yeah, I would be a little worried too if I didn't get the email because there could be errors in which case the merchant doesn't successfully report the transaction to Bing. At least you won't have to deal with the hassle of trying to email Bing about it. I don't know the success rate exactly but I've heard of Bing accommodating customers as long as they don't try to cheat the system. Like these guys for example:

Two were in stock in the Best Buy near where I work, but both had J0X numbers indicating they probably had AUO screens... :-(
-
there was a thread, not sure if it was in this one, that discussed the serial numbers for this model and which ones had the crap screen and which one had the LG screen....does anyone remember that...and if so where can i find it?
-
Cheers, -
I also searched in LA to San Diego California and from Tampa to Orlando, to Fort Lauderdale down to Miami Florida on the website and many stores show in stock.. just an FYI -
I've been out of the loop with laptops for months now, but I did notice that our store in San Diego just received 2 more today as well.
-
I want to buy this laptop, but I have a question. How do I activate the PowerBoost?

Was just gonna that they increased the price $50 and compare it to the clearance-priced -09, but they've dropped the -09 and increased the price of the -05 another $50! $1300 seems just too steep now...

If you mean Asus Twin Turbo, it is the button in the top left of the chassis above the keyboard with the speedometer symbol on it. I wouldn't recommend that you use it personally, as in many cases, it actually slows down the speed at which tasks will run. -

Hey guys, i'll be another guy of probably 100's before that will ask this again, how's the screen difference on this model ? there's so many posts to read to find that info, is it worth it to buy the bestbuy model ?
-
Just bought the BB model and love it..I have the new AOU screen and its really good. I have read about the prior issues and it seems like they have fixed most of them. I had 2 VSOD, but it seems fixed by installing 10.7 over 9.12 on the new models. Been playing SC2 for a while now with no issues.
-
I also bought the BB version today, everything is great so far Im still drooling. Two questions:
What is the best utility to overclock the hardware in windows?
Anybody out there know if it is possible to purchase the higher resolution screen (1920x1080) and install it? -
Picked one up today. It's the 06XXXXX and comes with the LG screen.
-
ASUS G73JH compatible Laptop LCD Screens. Brand-new (never used).
Cheers, -
Hmm that does look somewhat promising, and I and surprised at how cheap they are. I may check that out thanks!
-
they even offer a 2 year warranty for only $17 usd, or you can get a free 360 day warranty with purchase.
-
$17? Not at my local BB's, they wanted a few hundred to extend the warranty.
-
i was talking about the website that sells laptop displays. $17 for a 2 year warranty on them
-
Finance my friend BB has a 24 month 0% intrest finance. aprox 50 bones a month its a serious concideration for myself. im also a fiscally challenged person because of my car payments and girlfriend [for the record if anyone ask i didnt just say that...]
-
Any thoughts as to why the price jumped a hundred bucks to 1299.99?
Think there are any substantial hardware improvements or only Best Buy taking advantage (albeit lethargically) of the incredible demand for this notebook?
