asusparts.eu is the only place I've heard of that has the brackets.

No, you'll need more than that. Asus gave me the part # 13GNY81AM020-1. They couldn't / wouldn't order it for me. You can import it from asusparts.eu like I did if you're impatient. Will run you about $30, which is obviously too much, but sometimes we pay a premium for our time. :)

    I now have a Intel 160gb SSD and a 500gb drive in my G73JH-X1. :)

I just received an email from asusparts.eu confirming mine is on its' way. I ordered it on the 15th of last month. It took them a bit of time to acquire more stock.

There's going to be a scramble on G73 hard drive brackets if they are ever in stock in the United States.

I bought one as an excuse to buy a Solid State Drive. :D To me, it is worth the expense.

When I talked to them, apparently every order they get from ASUS takes about 3-4 weeks to fulfill. What I think is funny is that these guys somehow have a way to order it from ASUS but ASUS won't provide the bracket directly to the customer yet.

It's worth it to me too, but of course that's going to vary person to person. At least there's an option for the impatient folks like myself.

How do I install windows 7 onto my SSD? I just got this in place of my BB G71 that all of a sudden went bad on me but this doesn't have a disk with it.

Will there be an option to install windows onto the ssd and put the recovery partition on it as well? In the manual it says whatever you do, don't delete that but I wouldn't think it would work if I install windows on another drive. Thanks.

EDIT: Oh also for both the G71 and the 73 you don't need the bracket. Just cut up a couple store gift cards and duct tape them to the ssd to make tithe drive sit a little higher and squeeze a bunch of pieces behind it so it can't wiggle out. Worked for me for 5 months or so in the 71 and it seems to work just as well in the 73. Also, I'm in college and took it with me everywhere everyday with no problems.

    HI

I have a G73 From Best Buy I love it. I got another Kingston 2gb stick (the exact same model in the G73) But when i install it the G73 boots for look 2 sec an cuts back off.

Any idea what could be the problem? I would really like to have 8gb of ram for no particular reason. LOL :)

See this thread. It appears that even systems that come with 8GB may have this problem. I cannot add that last chip either. Other than that my system is perfect I am reticent to return it because of this flaw.

Yeah BB is bad with arranties and screen resolutions. I got mine at Allasus.com - it was in stock and shipped same day. They said they still have more in stock. So it costs more but they have it and I got it! Also, if you're not getting Asus' full warranty then you're not getting anything. You should always get 2yrs parts/labor warranty, 1yr accidental damage, 30 day ZBD and unlimited free 24/7 phone tech support. Oh and free two-way shipping for repairs.

    Hey all:

How come when I went to a BB to check the laptop screen under device manager, monitor, properties, I got "generic PnP"..No name. What did I do wrong?

In addition, is it safe to say that if the JOX has the "9C" in it not 6 digits that the G73 will have the "better LG?"

    Thanks for your help.

Thought I'd just give it a try and see what happens, and I got 5% Bing Cash Back at Best Buy! Searched for TVs, clicked the Best Buy link, made the purchase to be picked up at my local store so I could cancel the order if it didn't work, and almost immediately got the email from Bing!!! Not as good as the 15% going on at TigerDirect for the A1 and A2, but I only have credit @ Best Buy...

Hey guys, first post but I've been lurking for a while now.

Okay, so I've read every page in this thread, and some of the other G73 issue threads, but I'm not the smartest guy on the planet. I'm in the market for a new laptop (finally may be getting one by the end of the month) and have decided on the BB G73. I understand there may be a few "lemon" 5870's creating a GSOD and the BB model has 2 different screens (AUO and LG, LG being superior), but is there any correlation between the 2? IOW, is the factory that installs the AUO (or LG) more likely to have 5870 issues? Thanks guys, be gentle :p

I just got my G73 two days ago from bestbuy with the LG screen, and my box also had the J0X-9C6.... number. So far, I haven't really had any big problems with it, outside of some windows updates, and had it crash in BFBC2 with the graphics card overclocked.

I feel like out of the box, BFBC2 loads extremely slow, so I was wondering which drivers fix this problem and if there are any drawbacks to updating the drivers?

Its been talked about a lot.

But pretty much, ppl have said with 10.4 drivers their load times in BC2 decreased a lot. But quite a few, including me get the GSOD(Grey screen of death) when using anything but the stock drivers.

There should never be drawbacks like that, but unfortunately there is. No official fix has been released. I found one, but requires flashing the video card bios to another manufactures. So far no major problems after flashing the vbios. But you do lose PowerPlay and even possibly your HDMI.

    Stock = 9.12

Don't think anyone has installed 10.5. Some did install 10.6, but I forget what they said about them. I believe if you search in the search bar more about it, you'll find quite a few ppl talking about their experiences though.

I swung by BestBuy today, and say the BB G73 on display there. I checked the model for the screen, and turned out to be the LG screen. Compared to my A1 model, the LG screen is more unforgiving with the viewing angles than the Hannstar Full-HD unit. What annoyed me the most was the above angle, as it quickly washed out the display with white. I would have considered it unusable by my own standards, and I'm glad I decided to get the A1 setup. Straight on, it was a fine looking screen, but the reduced angle of usable quality irked me.

IMO, I would suggest investing in a Full-HD model.

Pretty much how I felt when I saw it at BB. It also happened to be an LG model. Straight on it looked fine but even the slightest angle off center that deviated vertically made the screen look washed out. For those people that don't care much about viewing angles and are fine with using the notebook directly in front of them, it should be okay.

I just picked up my G73 from best buy yesterday. I ended up getting an LG screen with 1066 RAM. I will post the #'s on my box for all of you since you are trying to get a good pattern here. I will say my box was a red and black box not the blue/green looking one.

I love the computer so far and the LG screen is very good. It may not be as good as the HD screen but I have no use for 1080p on a 17 inch screen in a laptop. I have a 46 inch sony bravia at home for that.

    Cheers.

Ok I went to BB today with the intention of buying my sister one since her M1710 is being sold. Unfortunately all they had was the AUO model but the lady working there was nice enough to open the box and let me play with it anyway. The screen definitely looks worse than the LG.

The colors were washed out, the horizontal and vertical angles didn't seem as good. If you guys are going to get a BB model, stay away from the AUO at all costs. It reminded me of the crap G51 screen I used to have with an AUO screen...terrible.

Also, a question to owners: is it worth a 3 hour drive to the US to save roughly $400+shipping compared to an A2? Cursed canadian bestbuys.

I'd think so. I live in Anchorage AK. Why not drive here? We have no sales tax here in Anchorage. If you were to do that I would use a credit card and purchase it in advance for pickup because the G73JH's sell out quick here. I've driven through Canada a few times to get to the states. The drive is really fun but then again you'd probably spend most of your savings on travel expenses.

I've encountered this problem on best buy's site occasionally... they usually show back up within a day or so ... I dont know if they're really sold out or if its a system thing.

If they dont show up within a day or so, I wonder if its possible that they're going to be replaced already with a refresh? I wouldnt be suprised, I had my heart set on a G60vx-RBBX09 and it was only available for a little over a month lol...

There is not a single Best Buy in the entire state of Georgia that has one in stock. Can someone confirm whether this is a simple supply and demand thing, or if they are somehow halting production/shipment for whatever reason?

It's looking mighty sparce in Best Buy Land. None of the stores near me list them in stock. Maybe BB pulled them pending Asus pulling their collective heads out of their collective arses.

Wouldnt suprise me one bit if there was a refresh coming and thats why they stopped distributing the RBBX05...

and it really wasnt a pre-order through best buy... early on before BB.com had it listed and before the stores had them in stock, you could have them pull the sku in the store. If you bought it and if it was sitting in the warehouse or distribution center, you got it... if they didnt have it in the warehouse you didnt get it.
