Maybe nobody should ever buy a Seagate product again, instead? ;) It's an endless tirade of problems with their stuff. That Momentus XT sounds as buggy as their terrible 7200.11 drives.

They're pieces of junk. The firmware update only works for some; others are faced with endless problems that force an RMA. In the end, I could barely play any games without lag bursts every 30 seconds. Also, the laptop stopped turning on (right before the RMA).

I had a 6+ week RMA (yes, s-i-x weeks) and what puzzled me is Asus continued to sell this laptop model, but kept telling me the parts were on order. Warranty customers aren't even prioritized ...new sales are, though...

Eventually I was offered a replacement unit, which I declined (especially since they come with a 3 month warranty and mine had 1 year, 10 months left on it), and instead received a refund cheque. Plus, 3D makes me pukey after 15 minutes (even with built up tolerance).

Part of this whole ordeal was my fault, because if I would of dealt with my reseller from the start, he would of UPS'd me the parts and I could of installed them myself (then resend the malfunctioning parts). This would of solved my problem in a little over a week ...but no, I wasn't thinking clearly and thought Asus would of had a 2 week turn-around (boy was I wrong!).

So to those who are thinking about RMA'ing it:

Talk to your reseller first and do a parts swap or else the RMA department will hold on to your laptop forever!

I spent the refund cheque on a Sager N8130 and made sure to keep the 7200 500GB drive and decline the Seagate upgrade lol :p Learned my lesson with Seagate Hybrids, that's for sure...never going near one again.

Like I mentioned a month ago, resellers offer a hard drive downgrade ...do yourself a favour and downgrade it to a 7200 because if you happen to be "that guy" who had a lemon HD in which firmware updates have no effect, it's not worth the headache of either dealing with parts swap (w/reseller) or RMA'ing it.

If you want a hybrid HD, downgrade the stock and buy a different brand from newegg.

    My G53JW experience was x10000 better. 0 problems + plug & play.

Does this work for ASUS G53JW aswell?

Have had the same problems with lagspikes, while playing WoW and CSS. Tried following the guide you wrote, and using the command the other person corrected, but it still won't work. After I type in the command and press enter, it just goes back to an the previous window :(

I just used the Windows SD25 updater, and worked fine on the 2 XT drives. You should consider using it.

    Thanks alot!

Finished the update, it was a clean and smooth install.

But unfortunately, the problem didn't go away :(

    Any other tips?

Have you ever run DPC Latency Tool? If not, do so and see how your system fares.

When I'm only idling in Windows, it runs at about 100-200 latency. When I play a game, I have spikes that goes as far as 4000-5000 latency.

The analysis tells me that some device drivers behave bad, and that I should try to disable/enable one at a time, to isolate the one that doesn't work.

Should I just try to do that then?

High latency during a game is expected, as the game hogs resources. :)

    Hey guys,

I'm just a little curious about the Seagate Momentus XT Firmware Update SD24

The thing is my primary drive is a OCZ-VERTEX2 SSD one (upgraded when I order this laptop)

But I still have the ST95005620AS, the 500GB one as secondary drive.

Should I be doing something before I run the update? like.. remove my OCZ hdd? or ?
    (FDL487A -m Anak -f ANQSD24.LOD -i ST95005620AS -s -x -b -v -a 20)

Idk if this update will also screwup my OCZ, or it will be fine

    D:

I'm also getting lag spikes.. yeah.. like HDD freezes for 5-8 secs, a lot in newer games like The Witcher 2 & FFXIV
either I install the game on my SSD or the Hybrid one.. "Very Annoying" sir D:

Grab my SD25 package on my Driver page. You run it from Windows and reboot. No command lines, no USB dongs. If it's not a Seagate drive, it skips it.
