3d only works with the DVD drivers that comes with laptop. Try re-install the drivers(the 3d driver is not on the same directory of the vga driver, you will install an usb driver aswell for your ir emitter). If it doesen`t work, try reboot press f9 and restore windows to factory defaults.
Good luck.

Hi Guys,
I have been following your forum for last few weeks and the community here is awesome. By the sheer nature of support it comes from the community made me buy this laptop g73jw-3de and I am really loving this system. Other than minor keyboard lighting issue which as discussed here can be fixed by downloading the latest atk driver, and which I did ... by grace of god ... no other problems yet.
Also since this is my first post I dont know for you guys but I also installed latest nvidia verde beta drivers for the system and it looks the drivers have 3d vision support built as a part of them ... no need to download additional vision support software separately now.
Here is the link if any one wants to try them -
NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.35 BETA
I am on them since a week and have no issues what-so-ever from their use and did noticed a minor performance improvement (albeit in terms of windows rating it went from 7.0 to 7.1) -

Just wanted to let you guys know that the BIOS update was successfully done @ Best Buy (free) courtesy of Asus, so if you don't feel comfortable doing it, then you can bring it there (assuming the U.S. has this option too).
Unfortunately mine is currently RMA'd because of issues with those plagued hard drives (firmware update was unsuccessful). I also had a 3D issue where it would only work sometimes, which drove me nuts.
My touchpad issue also wasn't resolved after the update. It would die until rebooting and the missing keystrokes, although partially remedied, continued to miss strokes.
The Asus call center has to be the worst call center experience I've had thus far. They're clueless! Once again, they told me I was "confused" because "the G73 laptop line does not have 3D laptops" and I should be "plugging an HDMI cable to a 3D-TV" if I want 3D.
For the touchpad issue, he got me to press the FN-touchpad button to turn it off and on 5 times ....then he got me to plug in my USB mouse, unplug it. Just ridiculous "checks" ...I think for he was just making stuff up as he was going along.
So apparently I won't be getting it back for 3 weeks, which is a shame. I keep telling myself that I should of gone with Alienware, since a tech would of came to my home the following day and fixed my issues. Now it's the big waiting game - I'm just not happy at all with this purchase, especially after spending 6-7 hours+ on the phone (mostly on hold). The after-sale support is just atrocious with Asus. I meant to post a review, but I've had so much problems with this laptop that it would be extremely negative.
Besides that, I hope those who have it aren't running into problems.
It's like "laptop roulette" with Asus.
A) If you get a laptop that lasts 2-3 years without service calls or phone support, then you'll be very happy since the value for specs is excellent. You'll definitely consider Asus again next purchase.
B) If you get one that continuously has problems and you have to call support and deal with repair waits (primarily the 3-4wk waits) and endless hours of idiotic reps. It'll anger you so much that you'll buy another brand in the future.
I'm sure if they had an Alienware type premium warranty option, customers wouldn't be so angry with these long repair waits. The G53JW was a MUCH MORE pleasant experience than this one, and I'd recommend that one over this laptop any day of the week if you want an Asus gaming laptop!
It's hit and miss, really lol -
I know what you mean. I've had some tech that don't know nothing at all. They just say stuff, I've had one experience where I gave my tracking number to the tech and she say the UPS site is not working. I track it myself and it work. Theres alot of bad customer support but ASUS is the king of tem all.
-
Sorry your having so many problems with your laptop and that you had to send it out for repair. The only problem I'm having is just with the missing keystrokes. I was looking on another forum regarding the G73JH's missing keystrokes and Gary Key says they will be releasing a final BIOS update for them and releasing a Beta BIOS for the G73/53JW's soon along with a new track pad driver in the future. The post is here
It's been a while since I have read the forum and it has grown but what are the issues with the hard drives? Mine seem fine.
Again, I hope you get yours back soon so you can hopefully enjoy it problem free. It seems like the problems with this model vary by owner. Some like us have problems and others none. Hopefully they will get all of this fixed in the very near future. I will give them credit for acknowledging the problems and trying to find a fix for them. -
I hope you get a good unit now bro. I solved all the problems here with the hdd firmware update.
One question: you have the thermal paste upgrade?Maybe a bad keyboard reassemble can cause the missing keystrokes.... -
Just thought I would tell everyone I have been the owner of one of these for about a week now.
I HAVE NO PROBLEMS.
Like, none. I don't think there is a thread here which I can relate to. (Touch wood).
Now, there are some niggles that I think are down to me and my clean install. For example my internet is acting up, JDownloader disconnects and stuff, youtube is really crap and fails to buffer after 30 secs, but I think that's because I haven't got the correct drivers (although I cant for the life of me find them). Also, I just dont get the feeling its running as fast as it should. Rendering my work out still takes a long time, SC2 is unplayable above medium, Metro2033 has to be played in 720. I dont know if this is me expecting too much or if I still haven't setup up properly after its fresh install.
No missing keystrokes, no blue/green/pink/grey SOD, no funny noises (although the audio quality is quite bad tbh), all keyboards likes are working, no HD lag spikes, 3D works great.
All in all I couldn't be happier, minus some of the minor things I have mentioned. -
Make sure your vsync is off and shadows are lowered too.
Your unit SHOULD be running much faster, hmm.
Edit:
Youtube Issue = DNS Flush / Browser Cache Clear (If I'm not mistaken) -
I have tried the DNS stuff and cache clearing with no luck. I should of been clearer. What I meant by drivers is the drives for my 6300 wifi card. Intel don't offer any stand alone drivers that I could fine, instead you you have to download their silly MyWiFi utility. You can disable it once you have it but this is the only way I found to get windows to see my 6300. I think I have an intermittent connection problem without, but it's hard to prove/diagnose.
I will try to reinstall the 460 drivers from the disk, even though i'm pretty sure they all installed fine the first time.
Also, any tweaks for the tinny speakers and the non-existent "bass" speaker? My MBP has far far far better speakers. -
Well Finally placed my order for this laptop got what I consider a great deal $1866 including shipping... I also just bought a Samsung 3d tv 50" (love company bonus time). Hopefully I get a good unit and only need minor tweeks as I hate having to jump through hoops to get equipment working properly that should be great out of the box considering the costs.

- Clear Browser Cache
- Run "$temp$" (erase all results)
- Run "temp" (erase all results)
- Command Prompt "ipconfig /dnsflush"
- Unplug Modem + Reconnect in 6 Seconds
- Reset Modem (Factory Settings)
- Ensure Internet Line is Not Damaged (ISP Tests)
...but if it's your card/driver issue, then I'm not sure

I assume that all laptop speakers are crap so I don't become disappointed (with exception to MSI's premium laptops)
Headphones FTW -
Hello everyone,
Just wanted to say hello and what a great forum this has turned out to be.
My sad little story is in short, I ordered a G73SW-A1 and received it Monday 1/31/11 the same day Intel announced the "flaw". Well that machine will be on its way back today and I have put in my order for an Asus G73JW-3DE!
Can't wait, thanks paladin44! -
And the news came out that the flaw is CPU based, and the one in the SW is not one of the flawed ones.
Solution for the Intel Series 6 Chipset Design Error -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, it is the Sandy Bridge chipset that is flawed, not the CPU. That chart only shows how to identify whether your system is affected, and since it is much harder to identify the chipset they are using processors for identification since all of those processors can only be on a system with the Sandy Bridge Series 6 chipset.
The chart unfortunately does not have the Intel® i7-2630QM on it because it is an OEM processor not a retail boxed processor, but it too can only be installed in a laptop with the Sandy Bridge Series 6 chipset.
The ASUS G73SW-A1 is therefore affected and part of the no-ship/recall order from Intel. -
Nice joke Chastity, but better stop cause some not so techie (the target readers for intel's article) readers mite actually believe you
It's about the "support chips" not the cpu
Quote from the artice:
"Intel representatives announced the discovery of a potential issue in one of the support chips to the 2nd generation Intel® Core processors, code named Sandy Bridge. Because Intel is committed to providing our customers products of the highest quality, we have proactively identified the affected part, stopped shipment of the product, and have begun to manufacture a new version of the support chip, which will resolve this issue."Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Got my G73JW-A1 today and my video drivers are the Nvidia 261.14 and I am having problems with media player and watching the 3d demo. Will updating my drivers fix this? The 3d picture viewer and 3d setup works fine but it will not work with media player.
Thanks. -
What media player are you using? -
The best Blu-ray player & DVD player software ? PowerDVD 10 -
Thanks guys I figured out I need to use Roxio and it worked fine, still going to update the driver. I was trying to use Media Player 11 and yes it is the 3DE.

Hoping someone can help here. I just got my G73....and I have the latest nvidia drivers....... For some reason live messenger is REALLY slow....and while its running, my temps go up by over 10 degrees Celsius!
Please Help!!!! -
I've just received my 3D glasses back. What I want to know is what I need to do now. I've seen post that says I should uninstal 3d drivers before installing new ones. Can anybody give me step by step to update my drivers. As of now all my drivers on my G73JW-3De are stock.
-
A) Uninstall your video drivers. Use your uninstall option. Then use device manager to remove the driver as well.
B) reboot
C) download the newest ones from nvidia
D) install new ones.
E) Restart -
I have done this..... in fact the drivers I was using in the first place were also the latest from nvidia. I don't understand this.....
I also checked, and while messenger is running my gpu temps go up to 51 degrees!!!! -
I saw that by updating the 460M driver 3D vision was also install. Do I have to download the 3D driver and install them manually too?
-
That I can help you with, as I too have the 3D Version.
What you need is this : NVIDIA DRIVERS CD v1.45 (GeForce GPU driver v266.58, NVIDIA 3D Vision Controller driver v266.21) WHQL
It has its own menu, install the drivers, then the 3d drivers. -
Not working for me ;(
Do i have to upgrade to sd23 1st or can i use this for 22 to 24?
tried it 100+ times now but it just doesnt do anything after i enter the command i stay in this Screen
any solutions? -
I upgraded both drived from SD22 to SD24...it worked perfect.

For people who use MSI afterburner to overclock, what are your settings? I don't want to over do mine. I just learn how to use it and my settings are
Core clock 800
Shader Clock 1600
memory clock 1450 -

- Download the latest nvidia drivers (260.99).
- Extract to the C:Nvidia folder.
- Copy the attached nvam.inf file.
- Go to C:Nvidia/Display Driver/260.99/Vista 64-bit/International/Display.Driver, Paste and overwrite the existing file.
- Run the setup from the International folder.
- Enjoy the new Drivers
I didnt remove the old Drivers. But if you want to do so, do it with driver sweeper and everything should be fine.

In the case of upgrading the HD, I tried without the "s", but not working yet, same screen.
I have the 500 gb version. -
Same thing here. It just does nothing after entering the string, except clear screen and display the same thing as cylence posted. I tried it during at least 5 reboots, with multiple attempts during each.
Has anybody successfully passed from SD22 to SD24 without installing SD23?
Also, how will I be able to select the second drive to update? No other drives than C:\ is available for the string to type in. -
Yes, I went directly from SD22 to SD24, on both drives.... no issues
-
i have the same problems. I got the same result schown in your screenshots. Even with the correct command fdl487a -m anak -f anqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20.
Is is possible, that i have a newer version of the iso which doesn't work?
i have the same ... -
-
Tonyll from Asusrog forum posted this information:
Can anyone confirm this? Someone could make an upload of the previus file? Or make a iso from the DVD utilized to upgrade the HD firmware? -
do you still have the iso-file you used to upgrade to sd24? -
Create a bootable USB memory stick: Create Bootable USB Memory Stick | techPowerUp
Download the SD24 firmware update: G73JW-3DE Momentus-XT SD24.rar
Extract, copy to USB drive, boot with USB drive, type "cd flash" press return then type "flash" press return.
I created the flash.bat file which includes the full working flash command. -
Hi iATa
Thanks a lot for your help.
Had some problems with the bootable USB
But for all with problems to update to SD24:
look at the offered iso from @tilla on Seagate Momentus XT Firmware Update - Notebookjournal.de - Forum
I got SD24 with that iso and
FDL487A -m Anak -f ANQSD24.LOD -i ST95005620AS -s -x -b -v -a 20 -
The problem was really the newest ISO.
They put a new ISO just to block the upgrade of OEM drives? -
Maybe!
It's Asus who has to support these drives. But they don't buy the update from seagate. That's really rude....
