Sweet, Ken, you mention in the video the "only" difference in the spec is the screen and the HDDs. Did you forget to mention the Blu-ray writer, or does the base spec on the 3DE not include the writer?

I am sure he just accidentally missed that. As you can see in Ken's videos the screen looks very nice. Normally Matte screens don't "Pop" as much as Glossy but this screen is very nice. :)

Its 120Hz on any mode right?
When on 3D, does it downgrade to 1366x768 like g53jw-3de?

You can run 120Hz on any supported resolution up to 1920x1080.

G53JW-3DE runs at 1366x768 is because that's it's max resolution.

It took a looong time for Asus to finally get around to releasing it. Now since CES is around the corner and Sandy Bridge notebooks already popping up in retailer lists, including the AW m17x R3 w/ 3D screen and dual GTX 470/ATI 6970, possibly with switchable graphics, it would be unwise for me not to wait till then...

Can you post a link to something that references any or all of the above? Sandy Bridge on retailer lists? How is this possible when it's not even released yet? And what pricing are we talking about compared to the current tech?

Any confirmation on a AW m17x r3 3D? with nvidia gtx 470? These sound like crazy good/crazy expensive configs...

I think what he is asking is if the graphics card is fast enough to support 3d in full hd in most games.

I haven't start to test games yet but Metallic already done game tests on G53JW-3DE:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/530076-g53jw-3de-review-benchmarks.html

I am sure the result will be the same, performance will drop quite a bit in 3D mode.

    Will post more videos. :)

Maybe in a couple months other vendors might have the screen ..

    It's not exactly hidden.

    Regarding Sandy Bridge:

Just google 'i7-2630qm' and you'll see various listings at retailers come up.

Heck, some guy is already selling it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/com...dge-models-have-surfaced-being-auctioned.html

Any Sandy Bridge ASUS models are not expected until maybe February or March. No possibility of them arriving this year. When ASUS refreshes the G53/G73 the GPU, at this time, is still expected to be the 460M.

Will a replacement panel for this model even ever be available?

If the 3D emitter is built right into the panel, wouldn't that also be able to modify a JH into a 3D notebook? And potentially affect sales of the new model? (with glasses of course)

If not, then I'm following Chastity's lead and shooting to replace my current panel with the one on the JW-3DE.

And if such a part does become available how long before it will start showing up as so? 90 days, 6 months, a year?

I'm kinda bummed that Asus isn't going to update the GPU with the Sandy Bridge.

There's no GPU available to update along with Sandy Bridge. There are rumors of a new Nvidia card called the N12P-GS but it looks to be a lower end part not suited for a gaming machine. The AMD Northern Islands mobility stuff is probably going to be announced at CES, whereas we know that Intel SB is going to launch at CES. There's no word on any more Nvidia cards in the 5 series yet.

The 3D emitter is to the left side of the camera. It is built into the bezel surrounding the screen, not the screen itself. There will surely be panels available in the near future. Keep in mind a FHD 120Hz panel is new and it will be on the market soon. I would expect in the next 60 days.

Will this support 3D on external displays? I've found even small (20-30'') 3D TVs to be disappointing, and I'd like to think I wouldn't be stuck using the built-in LCD.

What on earth would be the point of switchable graphics in a system like that? Battery life is a non-issue for gaming, and nobody in their right mind is going to lug that around as their main laptop, are they?
I can't see that combo costing under $4000, in any case; the M17X is already expensive to the point of being overpriced.

Even you can modify JH with 3D emitter it most likely won't work, because nVidia 3D Vision kit only work with nVidia GPU.

We just got the shipment yesterday and still working on pre-orders. our current lead time for new orders is 2 weeks.

Then you don't need to mod the screen with emitter, all you have to do is buy the screen whenever it's available.

It takes a little longer for units to reach Nebraska then local California. :( Once we get shipments and confirmed units in hand we will contact customers on pre order in the order they were received.

We send out updates to customers once there is an "update" to provide. Until units are in hands and if customers are in that batch you will surely get the appropriate update.

I would. I am considering the G73jw as an all-round laptop for gaming as well as university. It isn't THAT huge. Grow some muscle, man.

Currently the m17x R3 with dual 5870 starts at $2300. I can't see how the new model would cost $4000.

ok but ltn is samsung part number

no I was just asking because you had a problem in your signature...

it was related to finding this new part so I thought Id ask

There is not a manufacturer code called LG its actually called LP

    LTN is a samsung screen.

Im actually looking for a screen for a g72 but all things show it is compatible.

the screen in your signature is a samsung dual ccfl screen.

edit lgd is the new code for lg phillips/ that is the manufacturer.

Nah i was not infront of my machine when you asked earlier so i did a quick search and grabbed the wrong HW ID on the screen

Ill have to take another look when i get infront of it tomorrow as i keep getting the wrong part number coming up when i search for it but i took the panel apart and its an LG for sure ...

Edit nm i found it lol.. Manufacturer : DR740€171WU5
    Product ID : LGD0241

As for you sticking one in your G72 its not going to work because the RGB screens dont use inverters in the traditional sense and also have 2 cables running to the back of the screen to power it ..

If your going to try it just make sure its from somewhere that has a good return policy because RGB screens on there own cost a fortune..

I have both the Samsung and the LG screens at my disposal at the moment and i like the blacks and details better on the Samsung screen better so if you can find either or and they did infact work in your machine they would both be good choices but i was digging on the Samsung more because the black levels are better ...

End of the off topic discussion :)..

    no ok

Im looking for a g73 screen to use in my g72

    not your 16 x 10 rgb led screen, I want one thats in a g73 a 16 9 ratio screen

The only reason Im asking is I was wondering if the 3d screen has a code similar to the rgb led screen and possibly also has a unique connecter

all the led backlight screens no longer use an inverter board or it is internal. Including the 1600 x 900 lg screen I have

I was asking because I was curious if the new code lgd coincides with anything because almost all previous lg lcds including mine used the code lp

So Im just making sure this new screen is not an rgb led screen...

on the opposite side, if its possible this screen fits in a sager and that user wants to sell his LG WUXGA 16:9 led screen for very cheap forward him my name in case im still looking.
