Exactly no need to worry too much about the overclocking especially as the 5870M performs so well at stock clocks.![]()

Hey just for the lulz what can I expect on the 1 gig gtx 460m ? Mine is OC'ed and runs really cool. Atm its 800 core 1400 mem. Gets around 16000 on 3dmark 06. Plus I have the 1600x900 screen but may be getting 1080p led monitor from LG.
-
Remember that 16000 may seem high but the majority of that will be the Sandy Bridge results. -
If my bestbuy laptop had anything less than a sandy I would instantly return it. At least I have the best cpu for it lol
-
1080p from chi mei is really amazing. black does real black like you turn off your LCD. very contrast.
-
Ahaha Ive been running around in this game now, since the beginning apparently, with the depth of field game-play and cinematic enabled
No wonder I had to OC quite a bit, to even just get 30fps. Disabled those (but still have cutscene) and now at stock clocks im getting 35-40 AND my temps are back within reason.
*phew* put off the repaste for another time -
-
Would be really cool if you could post total config if its not too much trouble.
For instance, what do you have shadows at, and texture memory?
I use shadow quality medium, number of shadows high and texture memory size large. I get 30fps average (can go up to 37 and down to choppyness sometimes) on 1080p -
My settings are here 1 means on 0 means off. Im running Shadows and lighting at Ultra.

I Still cant get my head round how this game runs on my Rig. I see 70-80fps in the Harpies Lair (Chapter 2), the high 30s in dense forest areas then run back to Vergen (Flotsam included) and get 15-25 outside or even inside buildings. Very Laggy Outside in these places pinpointed cos i go under 20fps, 21fps is justabout bearable
Anyway is it Ati's Drivers (11.5b Hotfix), is my CPU throttling or is it just bad coding? 1.2 patch doesnt cure my problems at all. BTW i have used your ini Dallers and it seems to be the best IMO.
Also if i use Radeon Pro and set the CPU priority to High it takes away serious Lag when switching areas or autosaving. Changing Config settings still doesnt make any difference though if set on low spec or ultra spec.....they have the same fps on 1600x900.
Really Unhappy though -
Thanks. I ended up not using it tho. I suspect you play at 900, either that or you are very unsensitive to chopiness
With those settings I got dips in Flotsam down to 25 and it was unplayable in the woods. I do need v-sync because otherwise I get horizontal streaks now and then and I cant take it.
I actually didn't see any big differences with SSAO and shadows/lights at max. I used SSAO in DA2 because it was a huge difference but in this game Ill stick to having it running smooth.
With my settings I run at 1920x1080 and never go below 30 in the woods, it mostly stays at 31-32 running around in the woods. In flotsam its around 36-40.

Others have commented that 1080p is very heavy on the mobile GPU and I dont see below 35fps or require V-sync. -
Yes and you can OC also, that helps alot.
Well Im sure the game looks fantastic for you and thats really cool
I just beat the kayran and have done all of the sidequests.
I also havent used my abillitypoints after training so I got 4!!! to use now. I just gotta figure out what to use them on, I can spend a whole evening on that -
Items in Chapter 3 are short lived so dont do what I did and save all your cash. -
Aight tnx.

This may help some people with framerate issues.
In a Nutshell i got proper pi$$ed with poor frames in certain areas and decided to delete all the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005,2008 and 2010 software....dont ask me why.... although this wasnt the problem and i reinstalled these after.
But initially deleting these packages caused BitDefender 2011 Antivirus to stop working which i swore by for protecting my PC. I had this message...... 'this program cannot run in its present configuration' displayed without visual C++ present so Bitdefender would not execute. Anyway i tried The Witcher 2 and got a steady 25-40 odd fps outside in Vergen when the Kaedwani invade. I was getting 11 at best with Bitdefender running a massive difference. Also i cannot stop any Bitdefender processes running and Game Mode in its software doesnt change a thing!!!
I havent tried to pinpoint the process that hinders the game because as above i cannot stop any but all seems well without this installed...obviously i dont have any antiviral software at the moment though LOL. Does anyone know the best and cheapest protection...dont really want to use windows defender, etc???? -
I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials which is free and does a decent job from what I've seen.

Just discovered that Cat 11.7, which should come hopefully soon, will resolve several Witcher 2 issues, like missing health-bars and wrong lightning

Hey guys, I finally decided to get this game to check out what all the fuss is about, but I can only get 17-24 FPS maximum on ANY settings and ANY resolution, including 640x480. It's quite ridiculous! I've tried everything from using the ingame configurator to modifying the User.ini file but I cannot get this game to at least run 30 FPS on any resolution. I'm at my wits end here. Any suggestions?

-
Yeah it should run very nice on medium to high settings
I completely played through it and enjoyed it. -
-
I assume you patched up to 2.0?

Just asking the obvious.

This game has terrible performance. I am on Catalyst 12.8 and when I leave the tent in the prologue, I get 20-23 FPS on LOW settings profile. (game is the latest version downloaded from Steam)
-
JehutyZeroshift Notebook Evangelist
I have no idea of how intensive that game is but 20-23 fps on low graphics profile is quite disturbing. Have you checked your current clock if its on 700/1000, or is the Catalyst settings for PowerPlay currently set at Maximize Performance and not on the Maximize Battery Life? If it's currently set to Maximize Performance, something must be wrong on either the game's graphics optimization or in your drivers etc.
-
And have you loaded any plugins or is it the pure game without any enhancements?
-
Pure game downloaded from Steam, I did not install anything for it.
-
That is weird. It should run well on medium - high, but never much higher than 30-40fps. I beleive the into was quite bad in regards to fps, but it should get better later.
You have your system plugged in to power and turned the performance to Power4Gear High Performace?
