Ok well I installed 1.1 (and now 1.2?) without the gpu hotfix (currently running 11.5) and it seems to have helped a good deal. I have most settings enabled and at high @1080P with a 800/1100 OC, but am I the only one this game goes into the 90's for?
EDIT: Just hit 95C  with a 26-28C ambient

I finished the game a few days ago (but I'll play it again a few more times later... since there's 16 ways to finish it) so I won't really test the 1.2 right now. How is it? Any improvements? Is the game better in general?

Blackluc: If that was at me, I am sorry, I'm not sure. Moments after updating/patching to 1.1 manually, I was prompted for 1.2, so Ive only tried "stock" and 1.2. But it seems to be running much better.

lol i know right? His cpu stock is pretty much my OC, and his OC is pretty much the death of my i720qm...and his GPU clocks? yea im not even going to touch on that.

As far as patch 1.1 to patch 1.2....from someone who is on their 3rd playthrough (2 playthroughs at 1.1 and mid-Chapter 2 on 1.2), I can honestly say there there were ZERO performance improvements. The game doesn't run any better nor any smoother than it already does. Though its very stable. Cant really give you an average because I get different FPS everywhere. In dungeons im at 57-60fps, flotsam at 35-40, indoors 45-55...etc...but like i said, its extremely stable. I could swear that if FRAPS wasnt running I was averaging 50-55fps throught the whole game (except for some obvious spots).

I think the only performance improvements we will see is if we get new drivers.

    wait...what?

well ive got my GPU OC'ed to 795/1100 and CPU OC'ed to 1.9-3.3GHz. Also on those beta drivers with the crossfire fix. Oh and also, ThrottleStop. Most importantly, Im running 1600x900.

I heard those were the frames everyone was getting pre-1.1 patch, but was fixed after 1.1. Nonetheless try patch 1.2. I think it said increased performance in the patch notes...not sure I'd have to look again.

I cannot see if this has been posted yet but:

    The Witcher 2 - 1.2 Patch + New DLC

On Ultra 1600x900 with uber vsync and DOF off im now seeing 32FPS+ at the same place I saw 24FPS on Patch 1.1. Frames seem a lot more stable.

Lol The only games Ive OCed my CPU for, were Civ5 and SupCom, but Civ5 didnt improve much so I stopped, and SupCom is limited by the fact its a 32bit program so It didnt make much difference either. And I dont normally OC my GPU that high, I usually stay at stock or about 820/1100. That being said, the witcher doesnt seem to like anything over 800/1100 for long periods of time, for me, and I didnt think it was a CPU intensive game...but Ive never looked at its consumption of the CPU so maybe I am mistaken

    Great game though :)

    g73jh > i set it to ultra, disable ssao,uber,shadow medium,lod 0.5.
just gpu oc, no cpu oc. got 20-45 fps with almost average 30+ fps . very very fluid smooth playable. oh and i enabled antialiasing too!

they said fps is more stable when you set it to ultra rather than high. just make sure disable ssao, uber

That gave me the best results till now... :)

Even disabling AA, blur, bloom didn't help that much on high/medium :)

Seems SSAO is rather an important setting if you read some forums...
But ultra is better without SSAO then high with SSAO :)

Fact is that your settings are "useless" for people with 1920 * 1080 :)

As I already said in other thread(s)... 20 FPS for me is smooth gameplay without any lag... It's not a shooter or something :)

Your config won't work for several reasons. One of them being that you have to set the user.ini to Read Only, otherwise the game overrides it.

Next, your TextureMemoryBudget is at a ridiculously low level of 300 MB. With the 1 GB of VRAM available to 5870M's, an ideal setting is 600-700. You have decals set to low, shadow quality set to low... it's just a poorly made config.

If anybody would like config files that WILL boost your performance, please see this post:

I only have a 1600x900 resolution screen [ASUS G73JH-RBBX0] and I haven't tweaked anything in the ini. The reason I enabled a bit of downscaling is designs on the canopies and signs were popping in/loading slow, setting texture downscaling to low fixed all of that. I'm not sure if Steam has got around to patch 1.2 for me. I'm getting around 25-35fps on 11.5a.

    Edit: OC-750/1100

Install patch 1.2 as I had pretty much the same frames as you without downscaling anything. I have gone from having 25-35 to 35-45 since updating it.

Pretty much running on the same setting with you guys.

1600x900 on mostly Ultra. This game looks amazing, except sometimes the texture might look blurry.

Make sure you have Mipmapping set to maximum in your CCC Or nvidia control panel as that makes the texture 10 times clearer. AA also makes a big difference in Witcher 2. My textures are crisp but where very blurry when my Mipmapping was on low and it made no difference to my frames. Dont force AA in the GPU control panel though or this causes a colour glitch in game.

Yeah but your settings are doing the complete opposite: they're not making people have as fluid gameplay as possible AND they're making the game look worse.

I used that link as well and it was very helpful as you realise that many of the settings are missing when you copy and paste them into the user.config and others are not correct amounts after changing them in the control panel.

I did a lot of testing and settled on a mixture of ulta/high texture and shadows and switched on the main settings for me leaving out Bloom because that seems to hurt my FPS and I dont like motion blur or DOF so chucked them off. I see 30-40 outside 40-50 inside or underground with 1.2/11.5b and my sig setup. Very pleased here are mine:

Had to completely restart as my save file became screwed up and decided I missed quite a few bits in chapter 1.

I decided to take the non-human scolatiel route after getting jiggy with Triss in the pool and so far am enjoying it farrrr more than the human route.

After 3 playthroughs (2 human side, and 1 non human side) I can definitely say that the non-human path was better imo.

But I highly recommend to to play the human path first because you'll have more 'whoa' moments once you play the non-human side.

    AllowAntialias=0
    AllowSSAO=0
allowed me to run the game brilliantly on 1920x1080 res.
Thanks so much for your config.

It will do because you are disabling two of the main features that the Witcher 2 uses to make the game brilliant.

In fact you only need to disable SSAO to make the game brilliant and not AA which has minimal effect on the frames and a big effect on the smooth texture of the game.

Personally I would rather keep them on and sacrifice frames because for a once a game makes full usage of SSAO.

Anyone who has not seen this amazing movie I highly recommend watching it.

    Offical Witcher 2 Environments

This movie shows you just how perfect this game is. Bioware should be ashamed look what they did with Directx 9!

I have the 5870 version of the laptop with 8gb ram.

I wonder what exactly it is that makes the mouse so sluggish. I simply cannot play the game when the pointer feels like syrup. Does anyone know what settings that changes this? I got 2 different settings from this page:
NeoGAF - View Single Post - The Witcher 2: Performance Thread [Patch 1.2 - Free DLC/Improved Combat]

I have tested the last 2 (high settings balanced, Ultra+)

Using the "high settings" the pointer behaves within reason but with the "Ultra+" the pointer makes it unplayable.

The thing is that I dont really see a big performance hit other then the pointer from the 2 so it would be nice to use the Ultra setting and just disable the effects that pushes the pc beoynd its limit (ie its starting to affect even the bloody pointer when using the inventory :p )

Hey, I wanted to know the highest temps some of you guys are getting for this game, as its by far the hottest-running for me.

I just did the haunted mansion quest; and at 1920x1080 most settings enabled and at high, a mild OC of 800/1050 and an ambient of about 29C, whilest looking at the flames my GPU hit a scorching 98.5C  Never have I seen my GPU hit that in a game, in fact furmark doesnt even go that high (around 95C after 5 or so minutes)

Other then your temps; do you guys believe I have cause to be concerned???

Strange Witcher 2 does not go any higher than my furmark max for me.

I have only seen it hit 72oC personally.

Repaste time :D Please log your results in my thread!

I got my computer from XoticPC and had them do a IC diamond repaste of the CPU and GPU before shipping it.

    My temps:
Idle at desktop: 49-52 Clock at 405/1000
Browsing webpages: 54 Clock at 700/1000
Playing the witcher 2 for 3 hours: 72 Clock at 750/1050

While the temps aren´t fantastic, they are very good.
I cannot however go beyond the 750/1050 because the computer crashes.
If i go 800/1000 I get minor graphic abnormalities, if I go 700/1100 the game crashes.

The temps are with the High setting posted in this thread, plus V-sync and Anti aliasing. I get around 35fps at 1920x1080.

The majority of people will disagree with you those temps are fantastic especially for the 5870M with the JH cooling system most see 80oC + and 55-60 just idling.

I dont go above 80oC at extreme burn in but my gaming temps are the same as yours and I deem my temps top dollar. Unfortunetely your overclock sounds as though they are chip related as not all chips can do the business without a jump in voltage.

Ok, then I am very happy :D I just saw this pic of someone having 42 at idle
but I actually didnt know much more then that.

Its a shame I cant OC more, but on the other hand, I grew up with Game and Watch games so what I get in the Witcher 2 is downright amazing graphics for me and I dont think I will ever need anything more.

    Yay

I will add however that I live in the north so summer isnt fully here yet and the temps might change abit in the next couple of months.
But it does look like XoticPC did a good job.

50mhz core and memory is minor its the lads pushing 900/1200 on the alienware 5870M where the overclocks come into effect! Serious power for a single GPU.

I too bought my G73 from xotic, they repasted it, it ran at about 101C, then on my second RMA ASUS redid it, and it went down to 95C (odd lol). THEN I had my own tube of ICD7 stolen.

Bet if I put my laptop in a fridge/freezer I could hit that 900/1200 magic :D lol

Anyways, it seems its only this game. SCII and many others still only put it into the low 80s *shrugs*

Those games must be putting more stress on a certain part of the GPU which maybe does not have as good conductivity as the rest of the chip.

Might be an idea to think of a repaste and check then, and maybe new pads too.

Also throw in a 6970M while your at it :D

Yes I know its minor. If I could push it more I would. I get about 2-3 fps more and its for free so why not :D
