That was me. And it wasn't a GSOD problem, it was a screen flicker problem - avoiding CCC would avoid most of the strange screen flicker (though it would still flicker when loading windows).

God I don't check this thread for 2 days and come back to a damn novel...
Nice work Asus team on the keyboard backlighting. Looking forward and being patient for the vbios (which sounds like it needs some definite work) and the 10.8 ccc.
I just hope everybody else will stop b!tching and wait. I don't consider myself the sharpest tool in the shed, but I am pretty damn sure as SOON as Gary gets the ok to release a vbios and video driver package for us he will. As far as giving us updates along the way, he is doing a great job, and I am sure he will continue to do so without all the needless ranting and complaining.
With that being said, I welcome the trolling to come.... -
well then u don't need furmark... if games are working properly , don't complain
-
Just wanted to chime in and say nice work Gary. I didn't have the KB problem but it looks like you've addressed it- kudos.
Obviously there is still some things the community would like to see, but I wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work. -
Google is your friend. I don't remember the exact fix, but it's a simple matter of downloading something and running it and problem solved. Google will help you.
-
so...after reading this novel.... the msi bios does fix the GSODs somehow?
-
Yes it does, you lose your hdmi and vga though.
-
No idea, did you also reinstall furmark? Cant really tell you what could have gone wrong.
I noticed something strange on the new vBios - the temperature sensors sometimes go wild on this one and report 127C for just a split second but enough for gpu-z and furmark to show that spike. -
Mine does that with the old bios and 10.1 drivers sometimes.
-
I have the same problem as well.... I was running ziddy v3bios with 10.7 CCC....
running furmark for 10 mins or so... it can drop to 70C or up to 120 something in a split sec. Happen two to 3 times during a furmark run and it shut my laptop down (probably prevent overheat)....it used to be stable @103C using stock driver and stock vbios....stock TIM of course
mad: )
Anyway.. i have no GSOD so far... played SC2 for few hours without any issue...
-
so... where can i get that msi bios then?^^
-
This is the one that xeven linked, and I am using now. http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...gsod-fix-g73-owners-vbios-update-guide-4.html
-
just klick on the .exe n thats it?
-
Follow the amazingly good instructions here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...015-g73-gsod-fixes-resources.html#post6444967
but replace the vbios you're going to flash with the MSI one.
Welcome to a GSOD free and wonderful computer
.
-
pretty nice... thank you ;D i'll trythat out right away
hm i'm kind of confused by the instructions :S can somebody tell me what i gotta do in just some words? sry kinda not familiar with flashing that -
I spoke too soon on Chastity's vbios. White screen of death on a youtube video.
Grrrr. -
You have to make a bootable usb drive with HP's utility, I think its on the first page of that thread. After you have that set up, extract all the files from the zip file onto the usb stick. After you do that, restart, press F2 to go into your bios. Go to your boot options screen, select your usb stick and press enter. It will boot into a dos prompt.
Type ATIFLASH -p 0 -f BR36532.018 and it will flash. Ctrl + alt + delete to restart and you are all good. -
damn it.... i wanted to downgrade the bios to 209 from 211 but now my laptop doesn't start up... it just does nothing when i press the startup button :S
-
what happened that caused this?
-
Sounds like a failed Bios flash... Youve become the owner of a very expensive paper weight and im afraid our only option now is to RMA it.
-
god damnit... -.- crap -.-
-
I get this as well only when I have two different temp monitoring programs open with furmark. For me it happens if I have the AMD GPU clock tool and hwinfo32 open at the same time. I researched that if you have more than one monitoring program open it may show the 127C spike, happens in desktops as well.
-
Try something, Remove power cord and battery for 5 sec and try again.
-
That sucks.... How did u down flash it?
edit - you can either Pray so it comes back on, or get a baseball bat and smash it. -
not necessarily, mine had problems turning on since i got it back in april. if i pull out the ac cable while its on, then it won't turn on unless i plug in and plug out the cable a few times. i have other problems too, like if i turn it off properly, and then i don't plug out the power cable, the next time i turn it on, the screen will be dead.
and similar like that, fun times -
yeah, and the battery too. i think its some kind of a problem with the lappy still having a power source after it is turned off. u have to completely kill it from all power sources -
You have such horrible problems and you didnt RMA it? I mean this isnt it bothering you?
And he didnt have any such troubles previously so getting them just after flashing the Bios would be a huge coincidence. Its most likely it was a bad flash, but of course you can try plugging in and out the cable and battery but i dont think it will help... -
im in croatia right now, so RMA is out of the question, ill think about it when i go back to UK. (if there is no software fix)
-
Now you just made me want to go back to sunny Croatia (Korčula to be more specific)... *sigh*
-
hm k i'll try that out with unplugin etc
edit: i just used ezflash wit the 209 bios on the asus page, i think that isnt the right way to downgrade xD -
weird, it should work with ezflash.
-
isnt there something like a bios reset button?
-
I think you can dissasemble and remove the cmos battery. That might help. There is also a pinhole on the underside of the laptop. Not sure if that would work.
-
what does that pinhole do?
-
I think it might reset the bios. Just push it in for 5 seconds. Its worth a try.
-
did it still.... doesnt power up :S
-
You have a brick. RMA it.
-
does rmaing cost?
-
just the cost to ship it to them. They will pay to ship it back.
-
hm k. think they'd repair it even if it bricked?
-
yup. As long as you are within the manufacturer warranty period.
-
niice i'll do that straight away xd

Hello i'm Andrea from Italy since i installed the driver from ATI www site the 10.7 catalyst before and after 10.8 i continue to have GSOD mostly in all red, white and black and vertical lines in grey.
I still have the original Vbios only the Bios 211, since i read from days both Asus and Amd ATI cant fix this problem and i'm really mad since i payed 1500 $ for this "super" laptop, can anyone tell me how i can return to the old catalyst driver and how i must do to return at how was before since i tried to uninstall the 10.7 or 10.8 and reinstall the Video driver from Asus driver but after that when i run the 3d games they dont run on lauch.
There is a correct procedure for reistall the old video drivers
of january 2010?
Thank so so so much i'm becoming crazy with this computer.
Andre Italy -
I answered you in the other thread.
-
Can we have an update as to how long we might have to wait for a proper fix?
-
Dude went home for the day Kaelang. Hard as he's working, I'm guessing he wants to get home to family and such once in awhile.
I know I want to leave my job behind for the day when I'm done. -
I suspect this weekend will be quiet in regards to updates.
-
I updated to BIOS 211 and nothing else. Seem to be fine for me. No GSOD for me yet but I haven't really try much games yet. Only thing I tried was Doom 3 and some MMORPG online. Or you only get GSOD if you update your vbios?
-
When you go past 10.1
-
I just hope its before FF14 comes out.... I will be royally pissed if I finally order a G73 and it won't play
