As I said a bit up, running on MSI's vBIOS will let you run 100% stable with 10.8.
It will however, probably void your warranty and what not.
Have you tried the newer 10.1 drivers from asus.com ?
-
-
Yeah unfortunately I use HDMI and VGA to split up the workspace for photoshop, and my cintiq.
I use the stock driver on there support website
Version V8.683.0.0
computer is rock solid on 209 and stock driver.
Every other ati driver, and BOOM gsod -
-
When I first had my notebook I could play both with no issues, so IDK what happened with game patches or whatever... -
-
I just get GSOD on those 2 games.
Starcraft 2 is within the first 5 min,but on stock drivers im rock solid -
Since no-one appears to be responding to the other thread, I'm having problems flashing to Chastity's OD vbios. It can't find the ROM file.
Any help? -
I really just want an official fix from ASUS versus a bandaid -
-
-
Doesnt the G73 overheat easy tho?
How extreme is that overclock fix? is it a slight overclock that will keep the temperatures the same?
also how do I get it back to normal if it doesnt work? Do I just have to uninstall the amd utlity and it goes back to stock clocks? -

Here's what I did... I entered the command "type upgrade.bat" and pressed enter. This spits out the contents of the upgrade.bat file on the command line. Then, you type dir and press enter. You can now see the listing of files. type the command that she put in the batch file but put the name of the file you want to flash on the end.
What I wound up typing in was the following...
ATIFLASH -p 0 -f G73081~1.rom
When I typed DIR, what I saw listed for the ROM file I wanted to flash was g73081~1.rom so I typed the above at the command prompt.
The reason this is happening is because the file name for the one with OD enabled has a file name longer than 8 characters. As a matter of fact, the actual batch file will have a funny name too. It will be listed as update~1.bat and just trying to run update~1.bat won't work for you either because the name of the ROM file in the batch file as the full file name instead of the one I listed above with the ~1 in it.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I bare no responsibility for your GPU. -
-
I'll try it again. -
^Nevermind. I figured it out, many thanks Jody.
I managed to not brick it again. I'm on a roll! -
-
Just did a driver clean from 10.1 and updated to 10.7a. On bootup, the Windows logo DID NOT bounce or flicker like it did before! Very pleased.
Got into Windows and OC'd to 705/1100. So far no issues. Ran some FurMark and no crash, no bars, no flickering. GPU still sounded like a jet engine spooling up and down though. *Shrug* -
What AV are you running? What changed before the problems began. Did you install an older game that installed old or outdated dlls?
Cheers, -
Update. Just downclocked back to stock. Wanted to see if I needed the 705/1100. Ran a bit of FurMark and it seems to be fine on stock.
Strange. Very strange.
I'll keep testing. -
I went from stock to 10.7a, then back to stock drivers. Still getting artifacts.
Clean installed W7 + drivers on CD, still artifacts, tried 10.6 drivers and 10.7+10.7a still getting artifacts.
Note: the artifacts are on the menu for SC2, then in game if there's some action going on (mid game) or a gameplay cinematic playing. (I haven't tested if they crash me, they scare the out of me and I usually exit.)
In wow, in dalaran as I log on my character... it takes 5 secs I see some major black shaped artifacts poping.
Tried overclock, no sucess, I will try downclock next
why I don't update bios ? well I need my laptop don't want to be risky since I had 0 issues before the new artifacts came up
Note: I ran furmark for 5 min with no crash/no artifacts and even tried the artifact feature on atitool and got 0 artifacts, will attempt 30 min next time
EDIT2: semi-fixed, holy batman. I removed my external hard drive, which was using up power, which caused the lack of power to the GPU... dropped my artifact count down by 97%, still seeing SOME, might be related to stock drivers this time tho -
ATIFLASH -p 0 -f G73081~1.rom?
Thanks for answer. BTW what BIOS version you are running? I am on 211. And did your GPU downclocks automatically? -
I checked the OC thing and it said my clock at the time when it wasn't being used was 400/1000. Stock clocks for load is still 700/1000.
As far as the exact command, it was
ATIFLASH -p 0 -f G73081~1.rom
Two spaces between the 0 and -f. Not sure if there's an significance, that's what it was when I checked the batch file. -
I upgraded to the latest ATI drivers
used to crash in starcraft within in 5 min and wow would never work well.
Seems to be really stable andd my temps are only at 65 when playing SC2 tonigh according to gpu-z -

Just did a load of gaming with different games. Ran a Unigine and it ran absolutely fantastic. Again I'm running on stock clocks and not the 705/1100 configuration. No problems at all so far.
Very happy.
Strange that I had issues before but with Chastity's I'm not.
Hrm. -
Decided to just say screw it after I gsod'd after 5 seconds into the intro screen of borderlands and flashed the MSI vbios. It's been smooth sailing ever since
-
I'm noticing that it is idling about 2C cooler with this vBIOS. I stated before that I don't have the GSOD problem and never did so I'm not much help on that front. The only help I can offer is to verify things that are common between laptops that don't do it versus those that do. -
I don't know if I'll even flash to a new vBios if one is released. I'm too happy with this one.
As long as they can promise the end vBios is as good as this, maybe I'll consider it. :3 -
Cheers, -
Thats the easiest way with the least risk to get results. Other methods require you to flash your card. So perhaps u could use this for now and enjoy.
You can create shortcuts to adjust the clock speed without opening amdgputool. What you can do is you create like desktop short cuts.
Right click
Properties
under "target" change it to something like this
"C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -eng=705 -mem=1100
So everytime u double click that short cut it clocks up to 705/1100.
Then create another one with a different clock speed to down clock for normal use. Something like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -eng=200 -mem=500
So just play around with these short cuts to control your clock speed. Maybe download a widget to look at your temperature and the clocks you are in. I use "gpuobserver" -
If you have the missing lights on the keyboard issue please contact our Service group to arrange a RMA.
Sincerely,
Gary -
Nice work Gary. Another problem down.
-
GJ gary!! nice to see some stuff done.
-
Thats one problem down for some people (granted they dont screw up following instructions).
What about the vBios? Made any progress on that and can we expect a working one anytime SOON?
And how is the missing keystrokes issue going? Identified the problem yet? -
Great job Gary Key kb is repared.,,,,but I still have problem , than after installed 211 bios my copy windows 7 is illegal...I try reenter produkt key but doesnt work....what I may do?
-
@H11
You probably need to call Microsoft now and do a manual activation over phone. That should always work. You find the correct number if you select activate by phone. -
edit: everything perfectly thanks, germans have to take care about the changed 'Z' and 'Y' button in DOS -
Is this related to the European Model of the G73 or will the Fix help with this?
@others: Got you the same result in pressing that button or will it activate your keyboard lights too? -
-
-
Also dont just assume the whoe Europe has a problem if you have it. I have a Slovenian layout and i dont have any such problem as switched Z and Y in DOS. -
I'm not downplaying all the other issues forum users have been experiencing, and while I do appreciate what Gary has done for us regarding the keyboard fixes, I'd have to agree with HellCry here that there is a much more important issue that needs to be addressed. Acknowledging the problem was the first step (good on ya)... Now please prioritize to resolve the MAIN issue and hopefully instill confidence and trust back into your customer base. -
at least that's 1 problem down.. 99 more to go... now i feel slightly more confident to buy the G73.. now if Asus get's its game together and ships to gentech.. i cannot wait anymore..
