Hello ^^ just wanna say love these forums just for the simple fact of finding all my fixes for all my lappy toppies but anyways same here sticking to the stock everything on my G73 until ASUS gets off their asses and releases the vbios that works F the beta SH*T ^^
-
-
Eh, might wanna check out the rules. There's a certain etiquette for posting.
-
What do you mean? Are people not able to install the 10.8's? Mine went on just fine without even a reboot. Machine is 100% stable
-
I was asking which method he used to install the 10.8. If he installed it over the stock driver or uninstalled stock => safe mode. Driver Sweep =>reboot. install (which is the proper way, as i am told)
-
sorry for not making myself clear the previous post, i was in a rush this morning. anyways i followed the proper procedure by uninstalling 10.1 first, rebooted in safe mode and ran driver sweep. rebooted again then installed 10.8.
i may be one of the lucky ones since i know a lot of pple here has GSODs, but i'm not sure how long my G73 will run stable and dont know if i should flash the vbios once a fix comes out. -
Just to add to the mix, I get screen flicker when I change clock speeds on the GPU as well as the VRAM.

The only time you need to uninstall the complete driver set is if you are getting rid of Asus it's own drivers.
Updating drivers coming straight from AMD should work without a hitch. I do it and I can just update. If AMD wanted you to use driver sweeper they would tell you or even more likely just make the installer do it. -
So i was trying dirrerent combinations of drivers and i think i found one that works for my box....can anyone try this out and see if it works for you:
Cat 10.7a (was 10.1 stock, uninstalled, safe mode, driver sweep)
bios 211
Stock vbios
Realtek r250 drivers (6.0.1.6151) for audio
Using microsoft drivers for other "High defination Audio Device"
Ran starcraft at about 85 deg for well over 1 hr no issues.
Fury doughnut is working fine, no crashes
3dmark06 is also running fine, no crashes
Maybe this combo is just fine for my hardware but i though i would throw it out there if anyone wants to have a go at it....I was getting GSOD on everything else above 10.1 -
ohhh one more thing...i have gotten into the habit of always removing the power for about 10 sec after a boot then plugging it back in to reset the clock speeds....
-
Same here. Changing either clock causes screen flicker. Doesn't really bother me that much though.
-
Interesting note from all my testing over the weekend: I'm back on 209 since the vBIOS beta, and my GPU temps are the same as 211 with Furmark... 77C max. Schweet!
85C to 77C from paste curing?!
-
Nice temps, my memIO is at around 108C after 10min of Donut
-
Mine hit around 109 after 15 mins.
-
i cant complain too much, i love playing old games like Battlefield 2 and Halo PC at ultra max settings pumping 60 fps and temps around 70-80.
cant wait to see how much better it gets -

I wonder when we hear from Gary again.
A new BIOS with the C states available would be nice. It looks like Dell and Alienware are getting light of this SSD problem now also. Hope all these companies will start to pester Intel for a better solution.
What also would be nice if we could control fan speed a little bit for both the GPU and CPU. You know like most motherboards can; performance or silent or a third option.
Then again I think the next BIOS will be in combination with a video BIOS. -
Nothing from Gary yet. Well, it's like he said. When there's no update there's no reason to update us.
Sadface. -
I got a quick email from him, and he doesn't have anything for me yet. Oh well.
-
Been absent for a few days from the forum, Japanese 101 is kicking my a$$. Paste does cure, and I would guess that's what you are experiencing although I have never used the diamond pastes.
To everybody else out there, seems like there are less complaints after you all started updating your BIOS's and slightly overclocking your cards? Just a brief observation from scanning the last 4 pages -
At least it's a working workaround until we get a proper fix. I think I'll play with my modded vBios.
-
Agreed, might be a slight inclination to what they do in the new releases in order to enable the hardware to function seamlessly. I want a vbios to play with
-
Wow that seems an awefull lot for paste curing! Youve probably done this, but could you check if ur voltage is still the same as before ? And what are ur Core/Mem Clocks with this reading?
When did you exactly do your repasting?
Maybe I can expect the same lol... who knows
.
-
Yeah i did the slight overclock and everything is working great now
-
Previously i just made my own vbios mod that overclocked by default. But not many seemed interested in it.
-
We are interested but lurking around looking for the best vBios option to fit our needs
I've downloaded your vBios but I'm still on stock because I wanted to test my GPU after my re-pasting experience. I'm now scouring the forums for the best vBios that will suit my needs
-
The only thing u need to note about my vbios is the downclock. I would say it is a bit aggressive. So its not a vbios for all. But if your rams can take it, its a lovely vbios. Currently i'm not using it, i'm using the beta with lowered clocks. Waiting for an official one right now.

Update-
1. Missing Keystroke reports - Finally replicated the problem on a consistent basis on a particular unit today.
2. TIM - Working on various "solutions" today, some were a little better than the average temps reported across our test beds and some were worse but I should have it nailed down shortly.
3. vBIOS update - Working on another beta at this point. -

Yay for updates! -
Looking for further developments to this.. I hate idling at 66~70C. I dont want to damafe this baby by taking it apart for the repaste
-
hiddensanctum Notebook Evangelist
I'm idling at 75C loll.... -
I sent mine in for idling at 70C and games at max 105C. Heres hoping it comes back with some cool temps.
-
hiddensanctum Notebook Evangelist
I idle at 75, max at 102C. And I've only seen the 102C in SCII -
mine high was also SCII but I was getting 95C - 100C in counter strike source
-
how long have you had yours for?
-
1 month, had the paste redone by xotic pc when i bought the laptop. Looks like something went wrong while they were applying it.
-
Play sniper ghost warrior for a while and you will see your G73 shuting down because of the temps
-
i play sniper ghost warrior 4 hours but mine doesnt shut down...on stock..(everything stock except realtek)...haven't done the repaste yet...now ordering the stuffs...might be in after 3 days....yh and i also idle @ 66-70..
-
you'r one of the lucky ones
-
thats what i thought until i started gsoding when i jumped to 10.7....i still gsod though..i installed 10.8 and gsoded on Football Manager with only 5minutes played....reverted back to stock...but now am using 10.7hotfix against chastitys overdrive beta vbios....
and @ chastity...thanks for this ..i used to idle @ 66-70 but with urs since it automatically underclock i/m idling @ 54....on stock paste though....would be getting my icd in 2 days.....
-
I finally got around to installing the 10.8 drivers and I'm happy to say that I got 0 GSOD's
bios ver 206
ati 10.8
stock gpu clock speed.
I was playing a couple ps2 games on my lappy for about 3 hours and watched a couple videos (doing stuff that normally would give me gsod) and its been acting perfectly. Hell, I might not even bother with the vbios update xD
Nah, I'll install the update as well and update my bios when an official release comes out. -
What month was your laptop manufactured?
-
How do I find that out?
Umm.. at the bottom sticker, it says may 2010. I purchased mine in june first.
edit - just to be more specific with bios version
_ASUS_ - 6222004
BIOS Date: 10/30/09 15:13:23 Ver: 08.00.10
BIOS Date: 10/30/09 15:13:23 Ver: 08.00.10
this is whats in the registry. -
My recent runs have been on the beta vBIOS with 1.15v @ 700/1000 with BIOS 209
I used the ziddy v3 vBIOS which had 1.05v @ 700/1000 and BIOS 211 previously
So... I am using a BIOS with slower fan ramping, and higher voltages at stock speeds, and my temps are on par with a previous setup that had faster fan ramping, lower voltages and stock speeds.
Go figure
Originally I had Furmark temps of 85C with 209. With 211, I got temps of 77C. Now I'm back to 209 and I am still getting 77C. With these temps I would have to say that 211 wasn't the cause of the lower temps, since at 77C the fan shouldn't be ramping up much.
Appears I repasted August 02, since that's the date of my Repaste thread. -
I said that and noticed....
was playing games and 1080p both minimized for a bit and no gsod. I did notice that the screen would flicker a little bit. I was worried cause normally that means a gsod is gonna happen but it didnt. -
Has the 10.8 ATI drivers been relleased or the new VBIOS?
-
I guess where you are from, they really don't read.
-
guys - if you have "the face book" add the official asus page to your profiles. and then, on every single post they make, comment on how "that's great, where's the g73 (you know, your top of the line notebook) bios to fix the keyboard lights and vbios to fix the lockups".
the marketing people will put the pressure on the right place - they don't want to see the brand ruined and "everybody" in marketing cares about "the face book" now.
i signed up to "the face book" just to do this after seeing how cray guys get at work when a single negative comment gets put on the company's page.
we need official betas - relying on the good graces of guys trying to do asus job for them is beyond a joke. i appreciate the efforts guys but asus need to be held accountable.
for the record i have a good one with no video lock ups but burned keyboard lights is really annoying now. i can't ship for repair because i'm working in the middle east and i'll be looking down the barrel of $400 return shipping and 2 weeks on top of asus downtime. -
You should read before posting also.
-
Umm, you do know that there is a fix for the keyboard lights... Search is your friend...
Also, we already have 1 new vBios that works for some of us (me included)... They are working on a new one to hopefully fix it for everyone...
About the biggest issue outstanding is the missed keystrokes issue... Again, that is the one pissing me off to no end...
But, we do have a representative from the proper area of Asus coming in here and giving a hand and things are getting done... -
Anyone know exactly when this new bios and 10.8 is coming? It's almost September!
-
10.8 is out dude, and for the final vBios release stay tuned to the forum. For Beta release take a look around.
