I am running on 10.7 atm, do i have to completely uninstall that to install 10.8? Or can i just over write it? Also is it the CSS or CCC?

Look for the beta vBios thread by Chastity. The official vBios isn't released yet. I know it can be a pain to go through this whole tgread, but all the answers are there already.

Update-
GSOD - I am working on an alternative theory about why some notebooks will GSOD and others will not with the same drivers, BIOS, and vBIOS loaded. This machine was recently returned directly to me due to GSOD and overheating issues. Sure enough in Furmark (yes I used it...) it would GSOD after 20 minutes or so and in gaming it took me about an hour to get StarCraft II to fail.
So after fooling around with power management settings and updating to the 10.8 drivers (no BIOS or vBIOS update) the machine is operating well now and yes the temps appear a little high but well within the spec. I manually shut the machine down right before the 8-hour mark so we could test StarCraft II now. Anyway, this might mean something, it might not yet but I wanted to post up for those who think I have disappeared this week. I sort of have but for a reason.

thx for the update
edit - you said no bios update? does that mean you are using 206?
edit - nmv, I looked at the screen shot. -

Gary-
I believe a lot of us have theorized that it is a voltage issue...
The main reason why the other vBios works (Cleo, MSI, ETC) and that overclocking (bypasses stock voltages) are great workarounds, is mainly due to voltage differences...
Also people get "bounces" when powerplay goes up and down (making me believe it is a voltage issue)
OH...and 93-95 for 8 hours of Furmark is NOT bad if it means ZERO Gary screens of death.
P.S. DID YOU HAVE A BABY!!! everyone I know is -
93C High? You got to be kidding...for me (and for many others) the temp reaches 108C in 10 min. Try out Left 4 Dead 2 Hard Rain map...you get GSOD in ~5min. So far, L4D2 is the fastest to give GSOD for me...Splinter Cell Conviction and Mass Effect 2 can run for hours without issue, but L4D2 Hard Rain map...few minutes after the map loads->BAMM, GSOD!
Also for me I get GSOD a little after 10 min in Furmark, not even close to 20 min under 10.8...not to mention the screen flickering before it gives GSOD. At least with your new vBIOS, I didn't try Furmark with stock vBIOS, only L4D2.
ps: In Furmark, you selected Burn mode+Post FX too, right? -
is there several version of vbios on this laptop because on Gary picture final number is different of mine .... - 035678 / 035992
Like many people i've not GSOD with stock drivers but if i update to newest plash ....
and in furmark test my laptop is table is stable in same temp. ~ 95 °c -
stock vBios and vBios beta: 700/1000-->1.15v
500/1000 etc-->0.95
MSI vBIOS: 700/1000-->1.15v
200/1000-->0.9v -
Someone please leak the ATI bios editor tool!!!! Ill fix this asap!!
-
RBE - Radeon BIOS editor but I don´t think that it is a voltage issue
-
ugh, my TIM must be terrible then, I reach 101c really fast and then reach 103c for a 20 minute furmark run in a 24/7 high ac room. Initial runs of furmark a month and half ago were around 95c. I know you said it's in spec if it doesn't go more than 110c, but when you guys work out a TIM solution, would I be able to RMA for a repaste?

My only issue with asus now is when the hell are they going to ship the B1? Its been delayed and more delayed.. i can't believe.. praying that gentech have stock tomorrow or i'm moving to A1 or MSI GX660.. i can't take all this waiting..
-
why do they have to work out a TIM solution?!?!
1) buy thermal paste
2) put it on right
3) Redo peoples paste who RMA for heat issues
SOOOOOOO ridiculous at this point. months and months of this garbage.
and this GSOD, we have msi/clevo working vbios with no issues (except hdmi/vga) but ASUS cannot make one that works?!?
Dont get me wrong i am grateful that gary key is trying to help, but i mean seriously? are they making him do it alone?? get someone who can redo the vbios codes like the working ones, how is this all so hard??? -
Gary has a team, but it seems they cant do the job because Gary's the only one getting results. ASUS should give him a proper team that woulf figure out why MSI and Clevo could make a proper vBIOS and they can't -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
From what I've read (from Gary himself), it may not be the vBIOS that is at fault.

Is he gonna order asus portugal to repaste all laptops? Myne is now in RMA Gary, before i send it i could fry a egg in the laptop. Maybe you can ask them kindly to repaste my laptop. -

One fix doesn't necessarily negate another fix - does it?
Have some faith - unless you understand what the MSI vBIOS accomplishes at a base level, that is superior to what the OEM vBIOS offers?

proper processing will reduce temps...or something like that, can only use layman terms since I'm not very familiar with the proper expressions, perhaps not order them to repaste all,but if we do show up with our laptops, they'll get proper paste this time around and not a simple "pfff you're a noob, theres is nothing wrong with the machine" -

Uhm...no I was thinking that they sort it so things put less stress on the machine... horrible example but instead of it dividing 2+2 then putting it in the power of second it would just go 2+2=4.... or something...I know horrible example but hope you see the point.
yeah I know, but maybe all machines which comes in on rma they get instructed for compulsory repaste ? -
Asus will never do that cause thats = saying that the laptop as a problem -
I wasn't even going to try the AMD 10.8...Gary *sorta* made it sound promising.
But you don't know unless you try...
video playback green screened about 3 min in
game black screened about 5 min in
temps never went over 97*
back to ASUS drivers...no *SOD for the last 2 hrs.
using stock VBIOS, 211 BIOS -

lol! if you say so, well *gets comfortable in chair* nothing to do but wait and see what happens
-
something interesting did happen though. I got a RSOD for like 1 second then it went back to normal. the screen went red with different line colors, and my lappy made that errrrrrrrr noise for 1 second, then it went back to normal.
interesting huh? -
-
update - there she blows. after 9 hours, I finally got 1 Gsod. It happened while I was watching angel beats in blueray. I suspect this is that 3% chance gary was talking about with 206 bios. -
Gary: I really don't want to have to redo my TIM on my G73JH-A1, but I just ran the Final Fantasy XIV benchmark, and had my GPU hit 110C (No GSOD but that's not my concern right now). This has me extremely worried, as that's way to close to the thermal limit for the hardware. I'm scared to play games on the system, but since I bought it specifically to play games, I have no need to own the machine if I can't game on it. I can't return it because I've had it since June...
What should I do? -
one of the bios updates increases fan speeds...did you try that yet?
-
-
i am using 705/1015 speeds, 10.8, bios 211, stock vbios
repasted with IC7 diamond
no problems yet with this set up
when i forgot to set it once screen started to want to GSOD, so i went and set 705/1015 and ok again -
Not to belittle your efforts, but there has been a lot of testing going on by the users here, and power management settings do play a part, but they don't solve the issue. No one has been able to say that they disabled p4g or set windows power settings to "performance" and eliminated their GSOD problems. -
Gary seems to be the type that wants to know why something craps out. Kinda like me.
I told him to try the MSI vBIOS and see if the issues go away.
-
If I'm wrong, then I apologize. I just feel that with good teamwork, this can be solved in days, not weeks. -

Is Asus actually had a real R&D department with good BIOS and video BIOS writers then this would be fixed already and they didn't have to look into the MSI and Clevo video BIOS.
This really amazes me. -
nice
-
I would assume he already did that on a couple of units just to verify that it works. Also, he's got the R&D Dept on this as well.
