What happened to your keyboard? Didn't you get everything re-done after the pasting exercise damaged the old keyboard?
Cheers,
-
KB is fine... the port connector on the other hand is a bit shot, and I refuse to play Roulette with the repair facility. They'll wind up replacing stuff I don't want them to, like my GPU. Or it will end up on Gary's desk being dissected.
-
On this we agree. I took my new (used) G72GX-A1 to a local ASUS authorized service center yesterday because of overheating issues. We shall see how good they are at resolving the problems w/o trashing my machine. Their lead bench tech is a female so I hope she is neat and careful unlike me!
Cheers, -
There is nothing I like better than a lady with a multi-meter and soldering iron, but now I'm off topic again!

Update-
1. Well, I think I will just start providing an update every day or so even if there is not a solution or change in status.
2. Missing Keystrokes - The most frustrating problem yet to solve but we are still on it with Synaptics and Microsoft. I plan on switching out a unit with a customer who has the problem consistently to assist in debugging.
3. Creative Labs MB Driver Update - Still working on this one but should have an answer shortly. -
It's wonderful of you to give us an update once in a while even if there is no solution. Just a question - do you think the missing keystroke problem will be a hardware or a software solution?
-
I don't think you have to give us an update every day Gary. I'm sure we can all be patient adults.
:3 -
Hush your mouth ;x
-
Hey nice to hear from you. Hopeful the Missing Keystrokes patch can be extended to the touchpad too.
-
Hehehehe. :3
-
Good to hear the missing keystrokes are still being worked on...
It would also be nice if you answered emails in decent time (i think its been almost 3 weeks since i got your last response?). -
hush really.. i'd love to hear updates everyday from him... just assures us that he's around...
-
You guys know Gary has a life outside of us and his work. Let the man work in peace and if he is willing to update us on a more regular basis then that would be awesome, but there is no need to rush him to bring out a half baked fix or anything. If anything I feel sending him a gift or two would be in order for how well he has helped us.

I know for me, as well as every other person in this community not named Hellcry, would prefer if you spent less time addressing individual people's issues and worked on solving the issues of the entire G73 community.
-
Though if an individual has an issue that is exactly the same as the majority of the board, one individuals problems being dissected and researched may help create a fix for the whole. Chastity is proof of this. HC has some valid issues that could help fix problems for a lot of people here.
-
I wont go into details, but if you promise an answer to someone in a specific timeframe, its good manners to do so. Especially if youre the ASUS Technical Marketing Manager, who should have proper public relations skills.
But enough about that, im now more interested in what kind of a solution theyre working on for our missing keystrokes... -
With attitude like that, I'd bet just about anyone would be very happy to reply and service your needs...
Don't need the details. So far everything Gary has done, has been exemplary. Sorry he didn't please your every needs, but for the rest of G73/Asus community at NBR, he deserves a round of applause. -
Seams my expectations are just higher than most people. I usually expect correspondants to keep their promises.
Anyway, an update on the JW to JH Top cover (touchpad) transplant:
I just received a link from AsusParts: G73JW-A1 Top Cover
Ive already ordered it, so the thread with photos of the procedure should be up soon
.
-
Is the touch pad that much better?
-
Cant say for sure yet, but i hate the single button design (its so hard to press) and the current touchpad is causing missing keystrokes, so i will gain a normal two button design and hopefully the new touchpad wont cause the missing keystrokes anymore. Wait until i get it and post if and how it works.
Im waiting for the order now. They say it might take a week or two for it to arrive. -
Cool. You are right. Since you already ordered it, now we'll just wait until you report. Mine works fine, but I agree it is not as good as others I've had.
-
We gotta wait a week or two? Darn!
-
The JW just came out so you cant expect the spare parts to be all in stock yet...
-
I think I might order one too, HellCry. It takes so long to get parts shipped from them to the USA that it would be a month and a half if I wait until they ship you one and you test it. I guess we will be guinea pigs together.
-
Will mounting this touchpad by myself void my warranty on the PC? I'm a bit fuzzy on what you're allowed to tinker with and not in regards to the warranty...
-
If you open the case, and break something, yes you void your warranty.
-
If you don't break something, then they can't really tell can they?
-
Righto!
-
OK, so there's no warranty sticker or anything like that (which is usual on consoles)?
-
There is only one on the CPU. But thats after you have taken the whole thing apart.
-
Warranty can only be voided in 2 ways: tearing the sticker on the CPU or breaking something.
Welcome to the transplant club Jody
.
-
My wife asked me last night as I was taking off the keyboard "is that gonna void the warranty?"... "Only if I break it, now go away!"
-
Hey Gary, what happened to an update every day or so
-
That was what i was wondering too..
-
Hello dears,
I'm Andrea from Italy with a Asus G73-Jh-A1 can anyone help me to solve this problem or if you know some news from Gary Tech, when i use my touchpad always the mouse
arrow on the screen stop or lag or sometimes dont move like my finger moviment. I tryied to even uninstall the drivers of Synaptic and use the touchpad like a normal touchpad but nothing happen always these errors and make me so mad...
Can anyone help me....xoxo
Andrea -
You are describing the same touchpad issues a lot of other users have also experienced. This also seems to be tied to the keyboard lag some of us users have also had to deal with.
Hopefully if they find a fix for one it will also be a fix for the other. We can only wait and see. -
Update: Power4Gear Hybrid v 1.1.40 Date 04-09-210
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/P4GHybrid/Power4Gear_Hybrid_Win7_32_Win7_64_z1140.zip -
What are the changes?
-
Why would you even consider using Power4Gear?
All it does is add a bunch of useless power profiles (nothing you cant set yourself in power managment) and enables the "awesome" twin turbo which only degrades gaming performance... -
Cuz some of us like the app?
-
Power4Gear is an easy way to switch power profiles and we use it all the time.
-
Speaking of Power4Gear, is there a need to update it? I haven't updated it ever since I bought it which was back in june.
-
If you are having irritating issues like your desktop wallpaper changing then it is with it. I like to keep these kinds of utilities updated.
-
sure do. Looks like I'll be updating it.
edit - feel like linking me to it? -
You don't have a bookmark for the ASUS downloads page?
-
If you go to the main asus support page and search for p4ghybrid, you'll get links to all versions from newest to oldest.
-
I hate trying to find a specific update on that site. Why in the world does P4G not show up when you choose your specific model. Also, the site does not work at all with FireFox. You have to use IE. Furthermore, when I go there with IE 8 and click a plus sign to expand a category, it expands a different one than the one I clicked!
Whew... I need to go lay down before I blow a gasket. -
lol I was starting to think it was just me and my double vision
