I will add it in. Because I am hooking the input globally, I can't tell if the input is from an internal or external mouse so when you press the designated key combo, you will not be able to use the mouse at all until you press the key combo again to turn it back on. I will add the feature and a check box so that a person can't accidentally turn off their mouse and start freaking out thinking the touchpad is broken. I will definitely add it. I would like that feature too. It's a good idea.
-
Oh thats one thing i missed... loosing external mouse input besides the touchpad isnt really good
...
Is there no way to disable just the touchpad? -
Yeah I want JUST the touchpad to disable while typing, if Im using an external mouse I want it to work while typing.
-
JW and JH have the exact same layout of the top panel so the double button touchpad should/will work ..
I wish there was a way to disable the touch pad when you have an external mouse plugged in like on the M17x ..
Im not sure if thats what Jody was leading on to but yeah i could really use that since my palms sometimes hit the touchpad throwing my cursor off. -
You can use the Shell_NotifyIcon function.
More info here: Notifications and the Notification Area -
The Synaptics driver should have the option to disable the touchpad if an external mouse is present. Check the Mouse Properties under control panel.
And Jody, your solution will help those that don't have keyboard problems with the stock MS driver. I am not one of those that are that fortunate. -
I had looked for it before but will take a peak again when im infront of the machine... Hopefully it does..
-
You just need to check this box.

Mine does. Thats how I set it. -
Thanks Boost i cant believe i overlooked that
-
What happened to just disabling it? There is a quick function key button for it...
-
He was quoting me lol but he forgot the quotes ...
Honestly i didnt even see the FN combo for disabling the touchpad blah ...
Guess my mind has been elsewhere lately .. Might be time to finally start reading the manuals again
..
I got spoiled by that feature on the Alienwares and thought man everyone needs to have this feature on by default lol.. -
FN+F9 will also disable it.
and np
-
I flashed to the 211 BIOS, and since than, I cant disable my touchpad, even with the Fn+F9 combination...
-
hiddensanctum Notebook Evangelist
How did you lose that function...how did you flash yours? I have BIOS 211 and the Fn + F9 works fine.
The "automatic disabling touchpad when typing" thing is actually very annoying to me. Cause if I pause to ponder for like 5 seconds, the thing turns on again and I may accidentally highlight everything or my cursor goes to the wrong line. -
Thats good news.
If i dont manage to sell my JH soon, i will try getting a JW panel to try if it really works
.
-
I honestly cant see a single reason why it should not .. Having taken apart G73's so many times now the cable layout of the 3 attached to the top panel are identical in every way...
I just put the should/will as a disclaimer lol.. Never know but yeah you should be fine... -
I think this feature depends on the driver from touchpad manufacturer.
On my ASUS N71JQ that has an ELAN touchpad there in an option in the Mouse Properties Menu under Control Panel which disables the touchpad when external mouse is plugged in.
I have this feature enabled all the time.
-
I asked the techs about the panel and they say theyll almost certainly be able to order one for me and they have to check the price, but sadly this really cant go under my warranty as an excuse of curing the keyboard missing keystrokes and its not going to be cheap...
-
I got an answer from the techs: the JW cover with the touchpad and speakers costs 146€, BUT i cant order it without a serial of a JW notebook, which i obviously dont have.
I would gladly be the first to try putting the JW cover on the JH, but i need a serial to order the part and i would like to ask the few JW owners here if one would be willing to PM me their laptop serial...
I know its not something you usually share, but if youre willing to help me out id really appreciate it and i promise to post the results with photos if ill be able to get it
.

Same here, any ideas, the keyb lag is really killing me, I''ve been doing a lot of typing lately and this is a no no... It''s there a way back to the 209 bios?? -
Do both of you have the synaptics drivers installed? I can confirm that on 211 if you uninstall the synaptics drivers and roll with win7 default you can't use Fn+F9
-
Just download the 209 bios, put it on a usb stick, run ezflash in bios and point it to the 209 bios file.
-
Anything new for the bad SSD performance for 4 KB read/write ?
-
Try asusparts.eu yet? You can order stuff from them w/o a serial, though it won't be cheap.
-
Asusparts doesnt have it listed sadly....
And the SSD performance is pretty much solved if youre willing to tweak the power settings in registry.
Thread here.
Im still hoping someone with a JW will be willing to share it so i can order the cover... -
Me too, I want to see how your conversion goes if you get the chance to do it.
-
Oh cool. I missed that one!
-
Is a vbios flash going to be the only fix for the GSODs or is something else perhaps in the works? I'm a very unlucky fellow
-
That's the only known cure.
-
Using Stock drivers right now. Am I missing much if I do not decide to update? to 211 bios/93vbios/10.8
-
You may wish to rephrase your question, it doesn't make sense as it is.
-
Yes, the VBIOS posted in the sticky is the ONLY solution to GSOD problems. If you are having problems, you can either bite the bullet yourself (it's pretty simple really), or send it to Asus on an RMA and they will flash the same one posted here.
So have 2 choices: fix it yourself in 20 minutes, or send it out for 1 -6 weeks. -
Alright, thank you very much
-
I don't think I'm allowed to send pm's so, I'll just pos this in this thread and hope Gary (or someone who knows about this) reads it.
I have a G73jh laptop, and it has bios v211. So far it has met every expectation and avoided most problems that has been reported about it bar one thing. I think there is something wrong with the code that handles how the fan works. Because when I do light gaming (especially Heroes III) the fan tends to go constantly from idle to a low speed. And every time it goes through that transition, it utter a small noise that sounds like a mechanical sigh of sorts. And the game will stop whatever it's doing for .5 - 1 seconds. This also seems much more likely to happen if the computer has hibernated.
This also happens sometimes during other light tasks like web browsing and such, but the program doesn't take the same .5-1 second timeout that the game would.
Is there any workaround for this, or is this a problem that has priority of being fixed by Asus, or is it just my computer that needs to go in for an RMA? -
well it depends on u the user..If u are okay with what u are having now and haven't faced any problems yet when playing games or using ur apps then i think u aint missing much...But if u care more about a lil increase in game performance and also less problems with some apps then surely u r missing a whole lot....
-
What version video driver do you have? What vBIOS?7 -
Video driver: I use the one provided with the system. It says 8.683 (though I was under the impression that it shipped with 10.1 or smth but oh well)
Vbios: VER012.017.000.004.035992 -
well i updated the realtek driver to fix the freeze with creative.
other then that have not experience any gsod with the stock driver.
i'll see in awhile when i install more games bf2 is working fine. installign crysis soon and getting blacks ops.
other then that have not experience any problems.
mainly using this for schooling as i'm in video game development. -
Going out on a limb, but I'd suggest updating your video drivers and try again. Also, you're probably going to need the new vBIOS. Update both of those, see what happens.
-
noone GSODed on stock drivers except they have faulty GPUs....Since u are into game development i guess newer drivers would be great so join the VBios93 team...
-
yea probably will flash after this week..too many assignments right now to attempt to flash
-
I tried updating my AMD/ATI driver, but uninstalling it and installing the newest one provided me with the same driver as before, so I assume that I already had 10.8 then or smth.
As for flashing the vbios, I really don't want to do that unless it's vital. I really doubt that flashing it will have any effect on how the fans operate either. And I assume that since mine came with Bios 211, the vbios has been updated to a less broken one than the one that was provided earlier in the G73jh's lifetime.
Thanks though! -
ATI drivers are notoriously bad for updating their version numbers. Perhaps you did have the latest drivers before, perhaps not. Good thing you've installed the latest ones now so you know they're current.
-
Well they do update it. It's Windows when uninstalling, remnants in the registry. You can edit the registry for that easily. Personally I use DriverCleaner and CCleaner so never had issues with that.
-
I'm still holding out hope for an actual Asus update this week. I still need a synaptics driver that doesn't cause my keyboard to lag.
-
DriverCleaner and CCleaner are complete rubbish. They leave a ton of stuff in the registry. Only way to properly clean it is to do it manually in regedit.
And an update for the touchpad transplant mod:
Now i got a reply from AsusParts saying exactly the opposite as my techs; they will have the JW top cover on their site soon, it will cost only around 45€, and it WILL include the touchpad board and buttons.
The part number for the part theyll sell that i was given is: 13GN0U1AP031-1.
They also added the image of the part and it indeed included the touchpad and buttons
.
So for anyone interested in doing the same JW to JH touchpad transplant this is good news, since AsusParts is one of the cheaper parts resellers and they dont need a serial for you to order from them
.
-
I agree. They are great and have almost any ASUS part you could want, however, shipping to the U.S. is very expensive, in many instances more expensive than the part being ordered. I tend to order more than one just to feel good about the shipping with the hope I can sell the extras locally.
Cheers, -
I put in my RMA request for my motherboard to get the keyboard lights working again through Micro Center. They'll notify me when the part is in and do the swap same day if I am early enough.
-
You are the man! I am all over that upgrade... right after you try it first!
