The techs just gave up after i told them all the problems i had with the machine and answered "already tried it" to every single suggestion they had and agreed to order all the parts that i wanted.
Might also have something to do that i called them almost every day.
    Im evil i know. :p

But seriously, if you explain your situation with reason and ask to have them ship the parts so you can keep using your laptop it shouldnt be a problem.

I also dont like other people poking at my laptop since i had bad expirience with some tech who scratched a laptop i had repaired and screwed up the TIM application, so having parts shipped and replacing them myself is the best option i could hope for.

I think we already payed enough to get a working machine as most here would agree...
You really cant charge for something like that. Its not like an upgrade...

Shes AI built by Asus to prevent un uprising... Thats why the vBios is so late - i mean they had to take time to do such a good job with her. Should really rethink your strategy Asus :p.

BTW. is there any other beta tester out there?

If they do that, FTC would fine them for a lot of $$, not to mention that G73 users would probably burn their building down :D

Wonder why they don't hold an open beta with specific instructions. Unless this is more towards an alpha stage. Either way, these next few weeks is going to be interesting. Also its good to see someone from the inside working with them.

I hope Gary will be able to answer this, if lets say a new model comes out with perhaps an Nvidia card for example a gtx460, would we be able to purchase that card and use it in our g73? I know the argument would be that 5870 is a better card but i'm interested in this because of the cuda cores. I'm not sure but to me it seems like the ATI cards are more focused on the games where else Nvidia is more towards video decoding and stuff.

I have to admit that this impending vBIOS and 10.8 Catalyst drivers have me as excited as when I was waiting for the first nVidia Detonator drivers for my Riva 128 way back in the day! Dang Quake II looked seriously bad-ace with those! Colored lighting blew my mind!

    P.S. I'm old.

I had a Diamond Viper with a Riva 128. Quake II was cool but I was into Unreal Tournament over dial up.

Naaah. If you're excited about quake II "back in the day", I'm not even going to mention being uber-excited over doom II, and super-disappointed in daikatana.

I cut my tweaking-teeth on writing custom autoexec.bat and config.sys files to maximize EMS and XMS ram availibility for Wolfenstein 3D so I know exactly what you are talking about. Quake II was the first time I got my hands on 3D hardware. That driver release really wet my appetite and pretty soon I had a Voodoo daughter card installed in that machnie too!

Had to have Glide for Unreal! I can't believe I beat that game... what a POS.

One of the things I would want to know with the upcoming release of the JW. Would other hardware be the same as the current G73, except for the video card? And if the disassembly process is the same for the JW

And, how can the G53 go up to 32GB of RAM while our G73JH's can go up to only 16GB. Not that id go that high but I just want to know if it is a possibility for us too

If they want to make flashing saver they should make a winflash that checks if the BIOS/vBIOS was written correctly and allows you to write again if it didn't.

Even in ezFlash in the BIOS there are situations where the flashing can fail. Like getting the BIOS file from an Intel SSD formatted as the NT filesystem.

So I wonder what solutions they are going to offer. And I hope to see it quickly because I would like to see the power management options of the new vBIOS.

    Catalyst 10.8 beta discussion.

Modified inf to use on mobility cards, af anyone is up to testing them (dl link in first post (guru3d link). Install driver via device manager.

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GYY2JGX9

I installed the driver manually plus the CCC and other packages manually also, gonna try them out now and see how they performes.

Did a benchmark with FFXIV all stock settings w mipmap detail level set at high quality. I got 2034 running 1920x1080.

Would be kinda dumb to not include the hotfix in future drivers.

Also, after reading the guru3d thread, this beta leak seems uninteresting.

Maybe we can already start to think for a compensation we had to wait this long... *evil grin*

And I have already a suggestion... Add extra warranty on all the G73's for the time we had to wait for the fix :) (would be at least 2-3 months :p)

If they do that, it would make almost every1 forgive them for the pathetic slow fix, not to mention that they would get more customers for this legendary great customer care.

But let's wake up, this will never happen :)

Too bad, with a "free Mafia 2 for G73 users" deal, buyers would clean out the current G73 stocks :)

I agree that the best present they can give us is an updated vBIOS and stable drivers, however, a Steam download code would be a pretty slick PR move on their part to build brand loyalty.

They could even work out a cross promotion with an upcoming new release. I'm sure the software publisher would welcome the additional sales in the "launch window."

I don't want a game, or a backpack, or a beta key, or cheap t-shirts....just a phone number of the CEO of Asustek and a personal guarantee of him giving us an hour of his time. I, and I'm sure a few others, would just love to give this bloke a piece of our mind.

Guess what I want for Christmas Santa?!! :O

Edit: Come to think of it, a better deal would be to get him locked up in a room for an hour with HellCry.

THe 8.5 beta 5 does not seem to have the fix for the G73.
I have tried it and I still got a freeze on furmark.
It wasnt a gsod tho.. it was some little black square over some part of the screen. (first time I see it.)

Because the reason of the GSOD has been found and the solution to fix it is (almost) done too. And there is no 100% GSOD free Asus G73 VGA, the difference is that for some people it is much much more stable then for others.
