Well there's why lol. Does the num pad work?
My laptop is on bios 201. Is your model VI or VIK?

Nope numpad doesn't work, the button doesn't do anything. Sticker on the laptop says VI.
On a sidenote, I have to turn off turbo boot and undervolt on this laptop to maintain cpu temps under 85c at 120 fps. With turbo on and undervolt cpu temps sit at 92-95c, thermal throttling starts at 95c, but I don't really notice it in games. Rather run it around 80c with turbo off @ 2.8ghz tho. 90 something celcius doesn't seem safe to me.mason2smart likes this. -
Hey guys, im having an issue on my zephyrus. SOMETIMES, on start up i only get black screen but seems like the start up is normal except for the screen. It gets fixed when i close the lid and open it again as to act like putting it on Sleep mode. After opening again, it goes back to normal. any one else experience this? any one who knows a fix? THANK YOU!

Known issue unfortunately. Make sure you’re running Bios 3.0 is my only suggestion

@Paul Zymon
im on the older bios and I do not have this issue.
Run CMD: powercfg /h off
... could be a hybernation issue.
also try SFC /scannow to check for windows issues
Otherwise try wiping. If that doesn't work i'd say its a hardware/power issue -
Also sometimes, it has no sound on startup. i need to reset it hear sound.
Not familiar on BIOS stuff. Do you have any links i can follow? Thanks mate! -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
Bios 3.0 isn't posted. I'm also not on it but I do not have any of your issues. I would suggest disabling hybernation, checking windows, and reinstalling the relevant drivers (definitely use the older audio driver) -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
I'm not going to upgrade till I recieve a changelog from a tech agent after the last issue with the Audio Drivers LOL.
Funny it got posted after I spoke with a lvl 3 agent and told him of the driver issues and that bios 3.0 wasn't posted.... Guess they are finally listening.hmscott likes this. -
3.0 working good here. However hdmi 2.0 output still broken, laptop does only 1.0 to my lg oled. No 4k RGB and no working hdr. My aw17r4 and dm3 do not have this problem. If asus is listening: pls fix this problem asap or I have to switch to the acer

Depends where you live. Amazon or Newegg are both good choices. Just be careful with Newegg because sometimes they have a replacement only return policy on some laptops.
I wrote a review on it a while back if you're interested. I'm working on updating it with the 1070 version benchmarks soon.

XoticPC isn't bad but have them send pics of the laptop before they send it.
You could also use a local retailer like microcenter (I did this)
The laptop isn't difficult to upgrade and I encountered no seals when adding ram and switching out my ssd.hmscott likes this. -
Sad I have 2 TB SSD plus 2 TB HD, I want to plug one then because lot of data I'm carrying that's problem with sleek laptop these days

Got mine from GentechPC. They were great. Got free Grizzly Conductonaut on both CPU and GPU. They also offer a NBR member discountmason2smart likes this.

Hi to all of you, I had the infamous speaker problem out of the box with the right speaker.
After some debugging, I came to the conclusion that the problem was not with the speaker itself but with the surrounding parts that resonated with the speaker at certain frequencies. By lowering the 1 khz slider to 0 in sonic suite, problem was almost gone at normal volume, but still there at high volume with certain sounds, especially voices.
So I opened the Zephyrus to access the speaker, and put a piece of post-it sticky paper in there between the case and the side of the speaker, where it touches the back of the keyboard.. Closed back the notebook, and voila ! No more problem at whatever volume or sound or frequency. It doesn't solve the fact that the speakers are crap, but at least they sound normal.
I realized it was a problem with the casing when I grabbed the notebook by the corner and the sound instantly got normal. I could reproduce the issue every time I wanted. Also, while in there, I re-tightened every screw I had access to and maybe that cured the issue by itself.
Anyway, it is a mechanical issue, the speakers are working fine ! Their placement is not well conceived however. Someone at Asus should be fired.comicgeek, mason2smart and hmscott like this. -
Lol, they would have no employees left if someone got fired for each thing wrong with their laptops. Glad you figured that out though. Will definitely try this.

So i just recently picked up my Zephyrus this week. Absolutely love this laptop! Just a quick question....Has anyone here applied Liquid metal to it? I order some for my 8700k delid but wanted to see if its simple to take off the heatsink, or if someone has a guide or pics of the steps required.

What are your temps like?

im curious about this too! My cpu temps are through the roof...
I'm having massive cpu spiking causing micro stutter and input lag in battlefield 1. anyone else play this game and having similar issues? my ping is 6ms, 100mbps connection to ea severs so its not a network issue. -

i posted some pics earlier in the forum... -
I'll probably do liquid metal in a couple weeks. Will let everyone know my results.

I just got my thermal grizzly conductonaut in. Applied it to both the cpu and gpu. Idle temps are way down in the mid through high 30s. Ran prime 95 for about 10 mins and temps stayed in the mid 60s to low 70s. Ran destiny 2 for about 15 mins and with both cpu and gpu being used, it was at 82c on the cpu and 70c on the gpu. So far I’m happy with it!
-
This was also without any undervolting
-
You remember what page they were on? Cuz going through 83 pages is annoying lol
-
Those temps match what I am seeing
-
Good! means i applied it correctly lol
I also got a stable undervolt of -120. Temps now stay around 80c while playing games that load both CPU and GPU. but, while playing WoW it stays under 65c and the fans bearly even work@ -
I have problem with my driver. My Driver cant update in Geforce Exprience any solution?

Has anyone received this laptop with an aftermarket Delta AC brick? I bought from an online store and that's what I received even though every unboxing i've seen the official ASUS AC adapter. Just wondering anyone encounter this issue?
-
Yup, same issue

Any luck in getting the official charger as a replacement?
-
No. I spoke with Asus and they told me to return it to Amazon. Problem is all the replacements have the same charger. Do you have the 1070 or 1080 version?
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk -
I have the 1070 version. I got it from ExcaliberPC.
-
I'm wondering if it's exclusive to that version. Pretty much every review and unboxing is there 1080 version. I'm going to try Asus again but with a different tactic.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk -
Where did you purchase from? I don't understand why a 1070 would come with another brick unless they're refurbished or some other reason. You shouldn't be paying brand new advertised price for some aftermarket part. Really ghetto. Plus the official asus adapter looks slimmer and I would much rather be carrying and using that one.
-
I got mine through Amazon.

I hate to sound so overly dramatic but I absolutely have to be able to turn off these LED lights that shine brighter than a diamond in a dark room.
First, I'll be spending a week in an open room with 3 or 4 other people with very little privacy. And then, for 365 days I will be living in a small room overseas with one other person who will likely be trying to sleep late at night when I'd rather be gaming, netflixing, or even facebooking. If these lights continue to shine bright, I will not be gaming much at all.
Besides tape over the lights- What can I do? The lights turn off when the laptop isn't plugged in, so there has to be some way to trigger or trick the lights into staying off. These lights absolutely ruin the laptop. They're brighter than the screen itself. -
There doesn't have to be a way... It's likely that the lights are powered and are in line with the charger. Similar to charger connectors that have an LED at the tip only this is on the laptop side.
Asus is notorious for having unnecessary lights that can't be turned out, so it won't surprise me if these are impossible to do so.
You could open up the system and sever the connections but there's risk of losing the charging circuit. You're better off taping them.

Hello, just found this Forum and glad that there is more happy buyers. I recently bought the VIK Version of it and did a lot of tweaking allready. Liquid Metal to the GPU and CPU aswell as the Vcore -130 and GPU Memory and Core Clock increase by 200Mhz. Im so freaking Happy about this Notebook. I got close to 20.000 Graphic Score in Firestrike and the Fans are pretty quiet. I do have my own company and i do drive like 10.000km a month. I have a pretty solid table at the Back Seats of my VW Tiguan and sometimes i just have to wait in my car for a couple Hours. This is the perfect solution for me. I can carry this thing around in the Hotels and my Car perfectly. I had the Alienware R17 before, i gifted to the brother of my wife now, because the concept of this Gx501 fits my playstyle much better. Plus it looks amazing. Im about to install a 27" QHD Screen somewhere in the Backarea of my Car. Have to look this up once spring arrives here in Germany.

I found more complaints of the gx501 speaker problem. Seems there aren't a good solution until now. Wonder how things are exactly going. Anyone can share us a bit info?

I thought the speaker problem was hardware related and could be fixed by opening the system up and insulating the speaker from vibrating. Or is this a different issue?

According to Microcenter, ASUS repairs and part distribution have been in disarray due to their Main Part Distributer Going Out of Business... I Won't be getting a new battery any time soon.
I swapped my surface pro out for a 15 in SurfaceBook so I can have something to use for programming in class, but it feels so bulky compared to the pro and will be difficult to take notes on. Even the 13 inch has its drawbacks compared to the pro (eg. 2x weight, less battery in tablet, no fan?, having to remove tablet to flip around keyboard.)
Degradation is now 29% wear on the Zephyrus' battery with only 42 recharge cycles
Not sure if its just BF1 but I've been suffering from CPU throttling since the latest set of maps came out.vacationtime and hmscott like this. -
