I had an issue with GTAIV, it kept crashing with wininet.dll coming up as faulting. I did a google and it seems it is something to do with http/ftp etc translation. I uninstalled the beta and everything was fine again. Considering all those apps and my game require and internet connection, I think it is safe to say IE must update this .dll and it is not configured correctly.

Please, do not worry about heat with this laptop. Honestly there is nothing to worry about, it will not break.
-
I am uninstalling it now. Hope it takes care of my issues.
-
Let me know if it fixes it.
-
So far, most of the delays are gone and Eclipse is running much smoother. It still locked up once but that could have been the Android emulator having issues.
-
The GPU and CPU share a single fan on this laptop. I wouldn't recommend adjusting it.
-
It seems that my ie9 woes are pretty much gone with the uninstall. Netbeans is also running fine now too.
My Eclipse slowness issues are gone. I am still having lockup issues with Eclipse but, they are most likely due to this being the first time I am trying it and it is very different from Netbeans. When you have been working in one environment for years and then try using a different one, things can be a little frustrating too. I wish Google would have made it possible to use Netbeans for Android development! -
All,
I've had my N61 for about 7 months, and the left trackpad button just stopped working. Anybody else have this problem? Do you know how long it would take to get it fixed?
Thanks,
Casey -
IE is a pile of crap anyway lol. Did you get the winiet errors I mentioned in your event log?
On a side note, I just installed Ubuntu with Virtualbox. How the heck do you change resolution and install the ATI drivers lol? I have tried Linux many times over the year and it always seems so complicated to do the most basic things.
Oh and I am beta testing for the new Firefox. They have managed to break three finger swipe in the browser and are blaming Elantech lol. Seems I have a fight on my hands to get them to fix it before release. The devs over there can be very quick to pass the buck when it comes to bustages.. -
Just make sure that you have the restricted drivers enabled and then use the ATI control center to change your resolution.
It isn't complicated to do anything in Unbuntu. I think most people just over-complicate it in their heads (no offence but that is what happens when you are in unfamiliar territory). As long as you are using the ATI drivers, then you use ATI catalist control center just like in Windows. It is just like using Windows though, if you do an install of the OS on your own, unless you install the correct drivers, you don't have all of the same control as you do when you buy it OEM with all the drivers installed. The nice part about Ubuntu is that it will download and install the ATI drivers for you but, you do have to tell it that you want it to (its a GPL thing). Click on that little PCI looking card in the upper right hand corner of your screen and select the drivers it recommends. That will install all of the "control panels" also. -
It's running well on my N61 and my desktop David but I'm not using any web apps.
-
I use eclipse all the time. I haven't had any lockup issues. There is a brief delay when loading the tooling/plugins on startup.
-
It keeps crashing on mine. I am not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the Android SDK being installed in it. It is still happening quite frequently. I am just trying to port a Java application over to Android. When I double click on a class to open it, Eclipse will stop responding. If I wait to see what happens, Eclipse will eventually close. Luckily, my changes are saved about 80% of the time before it crashes.
I am trying to port an application to Android and this is my first time trying to do something for Android. For example, the first thing you find is that Android doesn't use a main() function. It uses Activites and Views. I am still reading the API documentation and trying to get a grasp on how Android handles things but it looks like much of the older code will need to be reworked to handle the Android "way of things".
There is also a lot of cleanup I need to do since the Java application was written years ago and there is quite a bit of deprecation that needs to be fixed.
On top of all of this, I am familiar with Netbeans. I spend hours in it daily and have been for years. Trying to use Eclipse mean that all formatting, shortcuts, aesthetics, etc. that I am used to are gone.
Add all of this together and this is getting overly frustrating! -
I found the monitor and resolution configuration panel built into ubuntu to work very well. With a multi-monitor setup, making some changes in CCC required an X restart. While the same changes from ubuntu's config panel were applied instantly.
-
Well, I installed everything on the MAc and got it setup and haven't had a single crash yet. I wonder if Eclipse is conflicting with something else I have installed on the N61.
-
You might want to check your java version as well as the Eclipse package you installed. I usually grab the Java EE developer edition. Also note that on a Mac 32 bit and 64 bit Java is installed so you can use eclipse 64 or 32. However on windows most people usually install the 32 bit java so you'll need to make sure if you're using the 64 bit eclipse you have java 64 installed and are pointing eclipse to that install path in the eclipse.ini. I'd also recommend installing the JDK which you prob. already have since you're using netbeans.
-
If it's crashing opening a java file it might be related to the memory settings you have for eclipse (especially if it's a big project). You might want to look in the eclipse.ini file and adjust the maximum memory available for the java heap. I usually set mine to between 512MB to 1GB.
There might be a way to adjust the eclipse shortcuts to match those of netbeans, I know netbeans as something similar for eclipse. In fact the template system and plugins for eclipse keep me from moving the netbeans. -
anyone having an issue with mafia 2. every time i quit the game my screen turns really dull, even in full brightness it dull l l l l l
its like there is a cloud trapped in the screen.
everything is updated in my computer. so not too sure on the origins of the problem.
thanks -
Yes, Java is 64bit and the latest version. I usually grab the EE developer version also.
-
I did that yesterday, as well. I just doubled all of the numbers. It is actually crashing on loading a .java file in a brand new project (albeit an Android project).
I am starting to wonder if the 64Bit versions are having issues with Android. I have found a few posts on the net suggesting that I move everything down to 32Bit. Instead of doing that, I will just stick to the Mac for Android apps. -
Possibly, I am just trying it out for the first time and haven't had a chance to play around with it too much yet because of the issues. I am sure I will get used to it but, her I am back at work and sitting in from of Netbeans. YAY!
HA! -
HI dears

here is the image of the display after the installing graphic driver :
you cant see any shaking with your eyes,bUt after 2-3 hours my eyes will be so tired
in a picture that taking with a camera it can be seing easily
one note is that in 0% brightness the shake of the display is seeing easily with a camera, but when you increase the light it will be a little lower
PLEASE HELP ME -
You may be right, I've had a lot of problems trying to go 64 bit with eclipse and every issue was due to being 64 bit.
-
could someone remind me what key i need to press to enter the boot menu on restart.
i though it was the delete key. tried that, didn't work -
I think it's the escape key.
-
i think its F9 actually... try both?
-
I know F2 enters BIOS and F8 enters the Windows safe mode menu, but I don't think those are what you're looking for
-
Which driver are you using? Have you verified that the screen resolution is correct (1366x768; right-click desktop => Screen resolution)? Also, is the refresh rate set to 60 Hz in Windows (right-click desktop => Screen resolution => Advanced settings => Monitor)?
Edit: Does the problem occur on battery as well as plugged in? Have you tried different outlets? -
I'm going to give it a shot running on LAN tonight with the wifi disabled and see what happens.
Sounds like the previous suggestion made to me might help you as well.
Not a thing. That was the first place I checked.
I disabled Windows Firewall over the weekend and that definitely decreased the frequency of the lockups.
However, if I determine that it's faulty drivers, or I can't run my firewall I'm going to be very disappointed with this purchase.
I want to love it, it performs well everywhere except in the game I play and that's just unacceptable. All told, the game runs better on my Thinkpad X310 from work (since at least it doesn't lock up constantly) and that doesn't even had a dedicated video card. -
Judging by all the complaints I am seeing about gaming issues I'm wondering if I shouldn't have just gone with the Alienware. Sure, it was more expensive with lighter specs but at least they work.
I'm starting to get very upset that I let my return period come and go. -
I'm having the same problem, but after a few seconds it goes back to the normal look of the screen. I'm also having another problem with this game, much times I get in a car to drive, the game crashes. Both problems occur with the notebook plugged in
I wonder if anyone have some idea what may be causing the problem
thanks
The problem of the display dimming after exiting the game is an existing problem known by the AMD in the windows 7, it's listed in the "Known Issues in the win 7" on the release notes of the Catalyst 10.8 -
Yup, a known issue which shows why ATI driver team are so poor.
-
Calm down stoolcannon, its going to be ok. I'm not a gamer but we have had many happy gamers here. Are you having issues with any games on your N61?
-
It's alright stoolcannon, forums are usually for complaining, not raving. This machine is great for gaming, I love it, either on the onboard screen, or my 22" external
-
i love this laptop it's freaking awesomeee
-
Yes since the end of 2009, the ATI driver team has been perfoming very poorly; ever since the 5000-series came.
I have been using ATI cards since a while now. Since January I own ATI HD5850 and before that I owned HD4870 which I bought after selling my HD4850.
I don't remember having that many problems with the drivers before.
I have experienced that since end of last year each new driver fixes something with one game and breaks something else with other game.
I remember my ATI driver trouble starting near version 9.11 or 9.12 which cuased regular BSODs in the games with my ATI HD4870.
The same BSOD episode happened again with 10.6 amd 10.7 on my HD5850.
I wonder if the knowledgable guys had left the company.
-
it doesnt different, all versions has this problem
I try all of the new version ..
and in any resolution this problem there is.
And the refresh rate is correct ( 60 hz )
in doesnt different on battery and plugged mode -
thanks, F2 enters bios.
-
No this laptop is very well suited for playing games. The issues you are having are either due to a configuration issue, hardware issue, or driver issue.
First thing I would do is update all your drivers. See the N61JQ driver thread for the latest and greatest. Remember when going from the ASUS ATI drivers to the one's on AMD's website you'll need to do an uninstall first or the AMD one's will not install.
I'd start running some benchmark software to see if you can find where the issue is. I would start by testing the Video Card, Network, and Hard Drive as those are the most likely suspects with the issues you are having.
You might even want to try restoring the ASUS image and seeing if that has any affect.
I've run a variety of games on this laptop from new games to old games and the only issue I ever had was serious lag while playing TF2 and that was related to my network/wifi card. It has a compatibility problem with my router.
Hope this information is helpful. -
The fact that uninstalling the driver fixes the problem makes me hesitant to assume it's a hardware issue.
Typically, whenever I uninstall a graphics driver, Windows switches to a low resolution. You say "in any resolution;" that includes the same low resolution you get with the driver uninstalled, correct?
Did the problem exist when you first got the laptop, with the pre-loaded software and drivers?
The only suggestion I have is to do a full uninstall of the driver using a cleaning utility (I use DriverCleaner.NET; some people use Driver Sweeper). Afterwards, install the ASUS-specific driver from the driver thread: V8.760.0.0 near the top of the list. -
I'm having problem with gaming, but it's an isolated problem, just in an specific game. On the other hand the other games run very well, I'm even surprised how well Battlefild Bad Company II runs great in this laptop and, the best part, without generating to much heat.
Until now I don't have much to complain about this laptop -
Guys, anyone had any luck with an Intel wireless card? As they are so cheap, thinking of getting another one to test? I want to know if the wireless goes up and down like I an others had with the 6200.
-
i have a asus n61jq - jx093v
500GB 7200rpm/ i7 740qm / 4gb 1066 / ati 5730
my question is; some model of n61jq came with 2 hard disks, is it possible to add one more hdd to my n61jq ? and how can i do this ? -
So far I had no problems with mine, but I did not test it at speeds higher than 54Mbit/sec. I still don't have any faster router.
At home I still have an older DSL moden/WLAN router for my 3Mbit/sec DSL connection. A faster internet connection is not possible with the German Telekom in my area.
I am getting a new cable internet at 17Mbit/sec soon. I will buy a Wireless-N Router. I think only then I will be able to see if my intel card has also the same problems like you had. -
Thank you for your response Risco. But I can't find it at ASUS. COuld it be b/c mine is N61 jv and win7 64bit? The only driver availble is Version V7.0.5.9 which I already have.
course on the hand I can't even find the touchpad settings and just use an usb mouse! -
Intel Rapid Storage Technology V9.6.5.1001 is pure scrap with 32Bit system and momentus XT or SSD drive... and there is some warning in update log for 10.x.x.xxxx drivers about freezing screen. give us your feedback here plz

Here is the link to the lastest Touchpar v7.0.5.12 driver from ASUS that includes this new SmartArea feature which should guard Smart-Pad against operations from accidental contact when typing.

So I'm having a strange issue:
Every once in a while (maybe 3 times in the last couple months), when I resume the laptop from hibernation or reboot, Windows installs a new device driver for the LAN card; it's as if Windows thinks the card is new hardware. In device manager, it is listed as "Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) #2". The original device is still there in device manager, but it is hidden.
This time, I shut down the computer for a while and started it back up, and it changed back to the original device (without the "#2"). Anybody else experience something like this? -
Did ya have your motherboard replaced?
-
Nope; no RMAs so far. This seems to be my only issue (so far), and it doesn't affect the function of the LAN card. Just strange that it happens. I tried downgrading to the latest official ASUS driver (V1.0.0.29) to see if it's driver-related.
