I can't believe that we already had 300 pages now. Thanks Greg for creating this thread. It really helped me to pull the trigger couple weeks ago, and I am now a happy owner of ASUS N61JQ-X1. Thanks also for everyone that contributed in this thread.

For people who haven't got their laptop, just wait. You won't be disappointed.

I know that I am kind of shy and don't talk much in the thread but, I wanted to say thank you to all those that contribute to the thread as well. ;-)

I second the "You won't be disappointed.". Even Tony hasn't said he is disappointed yet... yet.

The ADW is only valid for Canada and USA. I ma however covered under house insurance, as it is a named item.

Ally, could you update the FAQ to include that?

It is the N63, not due til June. However you really don't want a 1920X1080 display on a 16" screen, the icons are tiny! Not to mention the resolution will mean you will rarely be able to run native resolution in games.

I placed my order last night from Gentech, sent a money order via priority mail 1st thing this morning to save the 3%. Hopefully shipping Monday or Tuesday. They told me after my order they only had 1 left!

Click on the link where it says "see more" and this pops out:

    "Flawless HD Display

The full, high-definition 1080p display with a 16:9 golden aspect ratio provides a cinematic experience."

No idea. The N-series laptop currently being sold in NA is the N71JQ at 1600x900. Maybe they're advertising for a future model? I heard the N63 is supposed to be released with a 1080p screen either later this year or next year.

I was browsing the N61JQ download page on the asus site
    LINK Then the download tab

First why do some people think this page is confusing? It seems
pretty straight forward, you can see them by version, 3 different download
sites and even a description of the new version.. unless there is another site?

Also under TV/Radio I noticed that (Yuan TV Tuner MC872-1D Driver) can I watch TV on this model or different?

Do you guys recommend any of these updates right out of the box? Like Bios, utilities etc..

Who cares? It's an i5, we don't know the price or when it comes out. This is an N61Jq owners lounge. Why do we want to start drooling over future models. Let's at least get a couple of months in with our N61's before we start worrying about what's coming out in the future. Seriously I always want to have the latest and greatest. I will probobaly will think this N61 blows in a year. Let me enjoy this thing for a little while Superjojo! :D

Thank's for the recommendation. That sounds like a good idea. I am stumped on how to come up with this data. If someone wants to run with this they can post it and see if people agree with it. Then I will post it on the first page. I am not a gammer and as such have never given a rats A#* about temps. So I do not feel comfortable trying to figure out what an average temp for this thing is.

Come on Greg. You know I have to make at least one joke a night. If I don't, I must be really tired. ;-)

Glad it got a laugh out of you. Tell the wife I am sorry about the mess. Also tell her that she should beat you if you don't clean it up. HA! ;-)

I agree with you this posts with temps are of minor relevance at the moment. Too much hysteria for a designed product. Of course if many people start getting temps 90°C and above...

Anyone notice there is a buzz from the cpu when on battery and tapping the touchpad? Does not happen on high performance with AC power? Seems to be to do with turbo, as if I set the cpu power at 100% for minimum it goes away.

Also I tend to leave my battery in all the time. I charge it up, then take out the power lead. Run it down again, then charge when it gets low. Is that harming the battery?

I personally wouldn't attempt it without purchasing a backup keyboard. While I'm sure it is possible to pull off individual keys I wouldn't recommend it.

hi which one is better dell studio xps 1647 at bestbuy 999$(core i5 430m,hd4670) or asus n61jq x1 at amazon 970$(core i7 720qm,hd5730)? both of them nearly are same price

The i7 is a faster chip in every way.
The HD 5730 is a much faster video card than the HD 4670.
I'm guessing because of the i5 the dell will have a better battery life.

If you're using this for gaming or cpu intensive work then the N61JQ is the winner. If you need better battery life, well you should be looking at either of these laptops :)

I would say no on the overheating....some BSODs have happened. This is a very small %...a lot of times people with good running laptops will not post much....because they are playing games etc on the laptop. My problems are just completely random...I may have had the worse experience with the N61JQ so far but I still think its a good laptop. Hopefully when I get it back this time I will be good to go :p

Also Sheva, now days with so much GPU / CPU power running in these things...I think it is really a hit and miss on any company with laptops. Once you have a good one from any company you decided to go with...stay with it.

There is no overheating issues with this laptop. There have been a few reports of BSODs, but nothing that I would call out of the ordinary if you took a cross section of any laptop model.
