    Here's mine as promised:

    Name M50--22
    Unique ID ASUSTekM50--22
    Designed Capacity 47300 mWh
    Fully Charged Capacity 47740 mWh
    Wear Level 0%

I tend to use it unplugged for light work until it warns me to plug it in, for games and similar loads I use it plugged in.

If I were you I'd do as stevedogg suggested, get a new one from Asus then send the old one back.

Good-night to the europeans and have a good day for the rest. :)

Thanks, I think I am going to give a week or so of proper testing to be sure.

On another note, another niggle I have lol. Anyone notice on battery that if you press the touchpad, you can hear a faint electrical buzz? Seems to be powerstate related as it does not happend on A/C.

I also get an annoying high pitched whine, but only if I am on a flash site, or have itunes open.

There is a post here from years ago that describes my exact problem.

Today i made a very interesting test.I opened the case, put the laptop on the desk and turned it on.:
    http://tinypic.com/r/2vwfomc/5
and themp results in games were amazing. I noticed a 10(minimum) degrees improvement.
You can see general temperatures with case closed from my preview review.

    ---Intel burn test(case opened
    http://tinypic.com/r/vhrf3s/5
---Idle after an hour of surfing and listening music
    http://tinypic.com/r/s2gy1g/5

    ----Hawx(after one hour of playing)
    http://tinypic.com/r/2b332s/5

You see? The results are amazing. Greg please post this advice on the first page.

Conclusion: until now i haven't had problems with it. It is very fast, very impressive quality(anyway i had, for few hours, a siemens amilo pro and its quality was better) I'm talking about materials. This sistem is very stabile. I'm so glad of it :D. Is the best choice i have made.
I talked with the manager of asus service from Romania and he said if the keyboard is replaced by a certified asus service/resseller will not void the warranty so i think i have to buy one(backlit keyboard :D ) and send it to him :D (during the next year :)) ).
Thank you guys for hepling me to take the decision of buying this laptop. I'm very content with it. It's just perfect.

It's scorching hot here, 35C. I wish the weather here is as cold as there.

If I buy an AS5, is it possible to have asus apply it to my laptop? (asus service center. Not a reseller.)

    Hi Lord David!

    1. Which model keyboard you bought for the N61JQ?

    Dear Greg,

Can you please put some info on the backlit keyboard on the first page, once Lord David has finished with his project, especially which backlit keyboards will fit our N61JQ!

    Many thanks in advance!

I am actually going to pull the keyboard from the laptop and try forcing 5V power to the connections to see which ones make it power. Since we dont have any BIOS support, as of yet, I am thinking that we may have to work around that for now.

I will get you a link. Considering I paid $30 shipped, I don't expect anyone to pay more unless it is by a valued reseller who will warranty the keyboard and support the N61's install.

Thanks daniel_san, I put this in the review section. I am having a hard time understanding what we can conclude about your test. I don't know for sure but I am thinking it might not be a good idea to run your laptop with the case off. It is an interesting test though. I'm just not sure what you were trying to conclude about it. Maybe you or others can comment more about it.

When you run the laptop with case off it can "suck" more air and and make the temperature change faster. The air is not anymore blocked inside the laptop.I know this because i got used from my preview desktop pc to keep it on with the case open(the cooling sistem wasn't very good). It is like you would be using a coolingpad(it forces the air to come inside the laptop).
Anyway this is a extreme solution, but i noticed some improvements in games and intel burntest.

    Lord David,

    Many thanks!

I found some links. The most amusing one is for TigerDirect.com for a refurbished one for about $235:

    http://tigerdirect.partsearch.com/P...uter+Inc./Asus/04GNV33KUS003/Refurbished.aspx

And, then I found on Asus eStore for $20 plus $5 onwards for domestic shipping. Though, they are out of stock and it says on the site, "Out of Stock - contact us for availability". Maybe, if lots of us show interest, they might stock it:

    http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=5235&catid=735

I am still waiting to get my hands on the N61Jq-A1. Hopefully, I will have it by 4th May in Middle East. My UL50Vt-A1 has the same size keyboard but not backlit. I have very good relations with Asus Service Center in UAE and I am thinking to send them an email sometime soon.

    Many thanks,

    KOR!

    Hey guys,

I've found a stuck pixel that can't output the red colour on the far left side of my screen. Would it be worth it for me to send it in? It's still within the 30 days of purchase, how long would the downtime be for sending in and receiving it?

Try downloading PC Probe/NB Probe and see if that takes care of it. Not sure if that installs it or reads it. I would think it would be included in the motherboard chipset drivers since it is an ACPI based function. Not too sure though.

    Dear Greg,

    Excellent idea!

I have sent them today an email on backlight keyboard. Once I get the reply from them, I will then raise the issue about the 9 cell battery for the N61's.

    Kinda baby steps.

    Best regards,

That's strange are you using the latest HWMonitor version 1.15.0? ITE and IT87 seem to refer to the manufacturer and model of the motherboard I believe.

    Hi guys,

I am having a serious problem with N61Jq-X1. As long as I am in Windows 7,this laptop occasionally freezes with HD LED off, I have to press and hold the power button to shut it down and restart, and once this situation happens, I could expect 1-2 more times of freezes. Anybody has the same experience? P.S I've already installed the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

Mine is started to peel on the corner, just after 10-12x into my backpack.
And I can see the peeling starts to grow little by little.
Oh man, if this keeps happening, I can't imagine what this laptop looks like next year. It will become the ugliest laptop that I ever had.
Now, I can't help myself from feeling a little regret buying this laptop.
Is that why it is so cheap ? A design problem ?
I'll prefer Asus use a lacquered plastic than this thin layer of rubber.

I also notice on the other corner, the rubber starts to create tiny bubbles.
I'm sure it will peel off very soon.
    Very dissapointed

No worries, this drivers also enables trim for anyone using SSD. BTW you can disable the icon by going to start menu and finding the intel header. Open the Rapid Storage Technology and you can then disable it under preferences.

Hmmm, I'm on the 7th time of putting it into my bag and showing no signs of peeling. Maybe its best to put it into the backpack with the peel sensitive area to the opening of the bag instead of deep inside of it.

Sereville, This is covered by your warranty. So if it bothers you enough to put up with the hassel of sending it back I would. We are all speculating if this is caused by rubbing in loose bags or if it is just a defective application of the coating. I don't take mine out of the house so I have never put it in a bag and I have no peeling. If I was going to use take it out I would use a tight fitting sleeve. Or a sleeve and a bag, any thing to keep it from moving around in a bag and the coating rubbing up against it.
