It's already posted, the ISO, by Asus? Link please? Yes this disk should be on the site but all I could find was the $30, 2 disk set for DVD restore.
This should have been included with all ul30vts, no?
Lol, yea, I haven't used torrent software, uTorrent, in a long while. The last I checked it looked like it was loaded with spam? Any suggestions?
-
I think he meant drivers individually are posted for downloads
anyway I haven't seen any torrents for this, and as far as I know mine didn't come with a recovery disc/drivers cd it was sealed with the asus sticker too so it doesn't seem to have been tampered with.
and as for the problems its not really a battery life problem I think more of a videocard switching problem, before I reformatted and updated to bios211 I was getting 8-9 hours on powersave, now I get maybe 5 if I'm lucky. I notice the difference as soon as I installed the drivers. Literally the day before I was getting 3 hours more on the same battery.
As for uploading there are ways around it. sites like fileserve allows you to upload and download you're own files so I could create an account, send you the info and you could upload it..
@micman
if you don't mind sending a torrent file over maybe seeding for a bit it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't seen the file anywhere. -
Ah, single files, OK. No, only the the Driver DVD was included. I wonder if Asus will send it..not?
OK, if you want it I'll take a break with Risen and upload. Send fileserve url if this is easier than a torrent? It will be about an 2.3 Gig ISO. When set up is run, you check only what you want installed, like no Norton or such.
cheers -
not sure if fileserve will allow 2.3gb but if you don't mind giving it a try the url is
Free Online Storage & File Upload with FileServe
might have to set up a free account though I know they don't allow sharing files so don't make the info personal, as the only way to actually get the file is to give me the account after its uploaded to it
thanks for help -
Nope, 200meg split files, yuk. Everything I found wants $ for the bigger files. I have the ISO ready if anyone can receive it. My cable uploads will be slow but will do during the night.
-
All I need is either an ftp link or you will have to set up the iso as a torrent in a torrent client. I have never done this quite honestly but with how prolific torrents are it must be covered out there on the google. Tonight would be fine for me to start the download and don't worry about the upload speed. Mine isn't that fast either.
Just let me know either on here or PM what link to use and I'll start downloading it from you. If my Asus router hadn't died I could have set up an ftp server and made this very easy, but it did die. Thanks for offering to get the iso out there hydra, hopefully we can get it shared just like some of the other Asus laptops have the driver cd's shared online. -
Hey guys, I'm uploading to free MS Skydrive..25GB!
It's free, I used 7-Zip to break into 46 (50M) chunks. The breaking up of huge files was always a turn off for me. BTW, 7-Zip very fast on the ul30s.
So, when uploaded I'll send out link. My thinking is that no one has to seed and it should be fast, any suggestions? -
Sounds good to me. I didn't know skydrive would allow zip files, that's pretty cool.
-
OK, we should be good to go.
You will need to combine the files back to ISO, I used 7-Zip to split.
https://skydrive.live.com/redir.asp...8F2F08CC98011F7F!105&authkey=!ACfxshurvUPrgJw
I'll check back later if there were any problems. -
omg this is fast! 1.1 mb/s down atm. once i get it combined i'll report back.
+ rep hydra! -
Seto,
This would have worked, I had to dig to find 500GB total, 100m size/splits.
I wish that was posted on main page. Files are auto deleted after 60 days if inactive. Not bad for free but shame they don't let you share? The MS site let you share and post URL, just way less space. -
NP, I plan to leave that file on for a while unless MS does an auto delete.
Uploading is such fun with doggy cable upload speeds.
BTW, my 1 year old WNDR3700 has been OK. The 5G band is a little over hyped. Speeds are good only if well inside short range (sheetrock walls). The 2.4 band is well saturated, but only 3 of the 5G bands @ home. -
Yeah bought a WNDR3800 to replace the Asus. Its the same as yours, and I agree about the 5ghz band. I get better throughput over 2.4. Thinking about shutting the 5ghz band off entirely but we'll see.
It may be more like later tonight before I can get the torrent up. I have some stuff going on today but I'll still try to squeeze it in. Hopefully we can get at least one of the links to the iso on the main page for UL30 owners so they can find it more easily. I'll eventually pm the guy who started this thread. -
This link below should point you to the iso file via torrent.
Edit3: A newly updated torrent file is attached to this post. Download it, unzip it, and then open it in your favorite torrent client.Attached Files:

Thanks a lot, since I'm new here I guess +rep is good, I just hit the scale thingy =p idk
its actually downloading at a pretty decent speed now, too bad I can't figure out how to dl all at once..
nvm I see the download link on the side, thanks a lot once again. I'll post back to let you know if I get it working or not =) -
Hydra : Sorry i'm late.
You can use only thermal paste, cuz the thermal pads are reusable (there's only one i think).
They do not need to be very efficient, so don't bother with it.
-
Thanks Fendora. I was not sure if there were any large gaps so wanted to check.

It took over a week but legittorrents.info finally got my account activated. I think this torrent link should work but obviously I'll have to test it. Here it is for anyone interested. If it's not seeding just post in here to let me know and I'll get the seeding server up.

I found the ul30vt dissemble guide, that Dave sent me, many posts back. If the old links are bad, I'll upload to MS SkyDrive if there is still any interest.
micman, sorry, I did not get to test your link, I'm sure other's have. I'm going to be in an internet dead zone , other than light e-mail, for the next 25 days...so the guide will have to wait as well. -
After two years of very satisfied working and gaming on my Ul30vt-A1, I'm thinking about replacing it with something similar, just more actual hardware. Is there anything out there with a Sandy Bridge ULV CPU and some mobile GPU that would give me similar battery life as my UL30VT?

Hi Guys
After releasing Windows 8 CP I've tried to install it on vhd on my ul30vt and everything seems working from the box expect video switching (and of course asus tools for media keys and power control)
As I want to test win8 even in hard apps I need to have possibility to swith to g210 at least. I've downloaded driver from asus support website, install it manually (though auto install didnt work, only manual install from windows device manager) and now OS understand it has g210, but still I cant switch
Can you tell me if someone already try to fix it on developer preview or just switching utility name (there is a ton of tools on support site and I'm not sure what of them I really need) ? -
For the asus media controls, have you tried the windows 7 version of the ATK package?
-
Hello notebookreviewers
I am a happy UL30VT A1 owner and am looking to install a Crucial M4 2.5" 128GB SSD
My question is: Do I need to purchase/install any additional bracket/s to install the SSD or does is just swap straight into the old HDD slot once removed?
Thank you in advance. -

Hello, Henry, welcome to NBR.
You don't need to purchase anything, just take out your HDD, put the SSD in its place and enjoy. -
thanks for the quick reply and the welcome
I always have NBR bookmarked as it is a wealth of knowledge on all things notebooks (specifically my UL30VT).

Anyone know the pin out of the battery? Capacitor near power button exploded and ac adapter power does not work any more. There seems to be a short and sparks are flying once a second near the exploaded cap. However laptop still works on battery so im planning to hook up a 11.1v power supply to the battery connection to salvage the laptop.
Other alternative suggestion is also welcomed. -
Hi!
I'm trying to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview x64 onto my UL30VT. But I can't get the nvidia card to work.
Windows doesn't seem to recognize the card. Here's a pic from the device manager:
I've tried both the drivers from asus and the modded drivers, but no luck. I've also installed all the ATK drivers and P4G 1,25.
Can anyone help?? -
Which drivers did you install in which order?
-
i just install the same driver that i use on win7, and that is the one on ASUS website
-
That's not working for me.
Did you install the VGA patch first? All the ATK's? P4G? -
i installed all the atk, then p4g, and nvidia driver lastly. i did not install any vga patch
-
I did exactly the same. But it's not working for me..
Any ideas? -
how about try to reset the OS then install drivers again?
-
Can anyone tell me what the highest speed attainable with an SDHC card is in the UL30VT? Going to buy a 30gb card and don't want to spend a premium for a faster class 10 SDHC card if the notebook cannot make use of the speed.

I got somewhere around 20mbps

The capacitor is on the main pcb. It is about 1cm to the left from the ac connection jack. What is left now is two holes on the pcb about 1mm deep with blasted solder around it. Similar to an astroid crator
I wonder if it can still be sent in for warrenty. I broke the warrenty seal. I took a look at the pcb after the cap exploaded... -
Bummer on the cap. One long? call to Asus may answer that. They may have flat rate repair. I would be curious if Asus would sell the MB outright or if available from 3rd part on ebay.
Here's one place but MB is almost as expensive as just buying a fully working used ul30vt?

I gave my laptop to an asus authorized server center. To my surprised, they asked me if I opened the laptop and check the problem. Apparently, they don't mind and said they'll probably replace the motherboard under warranty.

To anybody who's still fighting with UL30VT graphics drivers installation:
I flashed BIOS back to 203 (had 210 or 211) and everything installed correctly with stock drivers. Before that, nothing worked properly, I can switch graphics, all the buttons are working...
)))

Anyone do a repaste lately? My game temps felt high with GPU hitting 92C.
So I put AS5 on all and pretty much same temps over stock TIM. I have a tube of CD7 coming so will try again.
People have posted far cooler temps on this thread. However, I have seen my temps on the ul80 threads and other various sites. I cannot find my old HWM screen shots form last year!
I'm using an old copy of duke3d with the hi rez texture upgades that uses open GL. Runs great but CPU and GPU run hot as lava!
Edit: repasted and used artic clean, GPU temps now 6 degrees cooler. Something not clean or air bubble perhaps... -
My ul30vt is 2 years old this month and the 8-cell battery wear level as shown by HWiNFO is 18.6%. In practice, the battery at full charge now will last about 4 to 5 hours doing mainly Internet surfing. Not bad considering it has on average gone through a full charge-discharge cycle everyday for the past two years. But I think it is time to start to look for a repacement battery. In my opinion, it does not make economic sense to pay the price for a genuine (original) replacement 8-cell battery for a 2 year old laptop. Also, assuming that I will use this laptop for another 2 to 3 years, I am thinking of getting a third-party 12-cell battery. The objective is to have longer usage time on full charge and hopefully, the subsequent wear rate of the 12-cell battery means it will be good enough to provide decent service over a 2 to 3 year period. A search on ebay shows third-party 12-cell batteries going for about USD 50-60. I would be grateful if anyone can share their experiences with 12-cell batteries and any sellers whom they would recommend. Thanks.
-
In a german forum a user bought this battery but its capacity declined basicly daily. After a couple of months he threw it away. It's just on opinion. So maybe a third-party battery is worth a try and $50 ain't that much. By the way he complained about the size of the 12-cell battery. In a later post he sayed that he stopped using for carrying around coz it was to big and heavy.
