Have you seen this? Does this link help at all? It is the complete teardown. On page 3 step 20 might be where you are looking. Getting to step 20, maybe not so easy. I have only taken off the back cover so I am not much help.
It looks very doable and instructions do seem good. How about a picture of the dent, is it really that bad or like many of us do you just want it perfect.
-
-
That's way too much work for a small dent. I guess the dent stays.
-
If you have ADW and nothing worse happens you can ask for it to be repaired around the end of the year period of coverage. That's what I'm thinking to do myself with my N56VZ after something fell off a shelf on top and made a pretty visible dent in the aluminum just under the keyboard. I'd have done it already but I'd hate to then get it back and spill something on it the next day while it's still covered - only one claim per laptop.
Peter
P.S. I keep meaning to post more but UX32VD does it before I can
About the battery for example and people charging to max then unplugging and using it to dead day after day while having it sit at their desk - it's such a waste of Battery cycles. I was shocked but I've found 3 others in real life that told me they do that kind of stuff including one that works at BestBuy - I explained to them what the smart changing is, bi/monthly calibration and the rest - but where the heck are people getting such bad ideas?
-
You guys with the dents, I get your pain. I thought I did all to protect my baby but I guess not enough. I have I guess what I can only call a dent. But it is so hard to see I have to twist and hold with the exact/proper light to even see. I know not what you guys have but it does suck when it happens.
Do not get me started on my Les Paul Guitar, it really does matter more and I really am insane on imperfections. At least with a guitar that lasts forever vs notebook that is 3 years at best. "Wear" adds character maybe. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I would use your machine and get used to general wear rather than taking apart and risk further damage.
-
Oh sure be the voice of reason. Come in and throw common sense down.
I do think we all agree. And we all agree it does take time to get past. When we get there easy to look back at. But at the time it does suck very bad.
Even with the very upgradable UX32 it needs to be understood front cover no easy ball game.
I agree with Meaker enjoy and use. -
my battery charge is droping it should be around desgined capacity 48248 mhw and it was at 46567... ... now its even lower at 45917 mhw anyone knows a solution for it?
i used everest to check this...
anyone knows what its going on?
in this rate the computer has 1 month soon it will have no battery left ...
help is welcome... -
Bios flashes are quite safe. there are failsafe's built into almost every pc to reflash a bios, if incorrectly flashed.
Newer bios's generally have newer bug fixed software in them like the SATA controller, video bios and general stability fixes.
To suggest to NEVER update your bios is stupid. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
All batteries degrade with use. -
Not sure I said to never update BIOS. Not sure I said never update drivers. Not going to get into an argument about. I won't even get into a detailed explanation of what are good or bad reasons. I will just state as my opinion that to do either unless you are adventurous make sure of the advantage. I am not critical of those who enjoy tweaking their toys. I am however critical of those that encourage others that might be less tech savvy without a very clear definite reason/advantage.
I am not and was not "calling" anyone out or being critical of any particular specific. As such I find any criticism of my very general word of caution a bit of an attention getter.
How about when you find the poster that said to never update, you quote them then add your comment to their post not mine. One is judged by the company one keeps and I hardly see my post as deserving of any connection with your response.

My battery total capacity is being reduced with time... right now its 45917 mWh the original charge was 48248 based on everest data...
the notebook has only 2 months old...
anyone knows if this is normal and if not what i can do to make the charge go back to normal??
the charger often dont charge her till 100% but stuck at 99% then need to be removed and plugged again to reach 100%
in this rate of loosing capacity the batery wont last long -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It stops at 99% to increase battery life, by forcing it to go to 100% you are reducing its life.
Try taking care of how many times it gets discharged and recharged, even a partial discharge counts as a cycle. -
New user. I have preinstalled for graphics card the Intel 3000 series.
Specification says it came with Display
Graphic
Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 620M
Do I have to change to 4000 series drives ?
Or I have two graphics card , one integrated and one dedicated ?
13.3" 16:9 HD with EWV (1366 x 768) /IPS FHD (1920x1080)
Can you explain those letters ? (EWV and IPS FHD ) -
Thinking about picking up a ux32vd-dh71 (assuming that these are still shipping with the 1.9 3517u (rather than the 1.7 3517ue) and I ran in to this. Posted earlier in this form but did anyone notice that the description calls out a i7-3537 cpu & a 630m graphics card? BT 4.0? (is the current models 3.0?)
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...=2flgfARnz5iXHvqHAyqSqA&bvm=bv.46751780,d.aWM
So, is this thing real? -
Maybe, though as it stands I'm thinking I might get a new Zenbook Infinity as my personal computer and keep this notebook as my work computer. I just hope the Inf has a dedicated graphics card at least as good as a well clocked 730 and Haswell and I'll be happy
.
One thing I'm experiencing is my wifi often doesn't reconnect on its own after being on standby and I have to reconnect manually and it often takes 30-45 seconds after resume from sleep to connect. Does anyone else experience this?
I really like this computer except for the wifi/bluetooth module, it's giving a lot of problems...
Thanks,
Peter -

I would look out for new haswell models too as the power savings could be quite nice.
-
Come on Meaker it does not! What are you trying to do? So silly I want to slap you. I am not even going to research but zero memory effect on Li-Ion. You do not have to fully discharge/recharge. It is just so wrong I can't even comment. YOU DON'T LOSE A FULL CYCLE with a partial charge.
OK to poster your batt is at a 95% capacity? I don't care if you have only had for a couple months. The batt has been losing charge before you bought. 95% not great but not bad. mine is 97%. So be it. -
I have had mine for about 8 months and my battery will not charge beyond 90%. This wear level seems a little high to me. I have had other laptops in the past with much better wear levels. Also its generally plugged in most of the time, which for Li-ion batteries is a good thing, they like to be at 80% or higher charge generally.
-
Folks, pulled a full retard on my 32VD today. Spilled some coffee (~50-60cc) on the keyboard by accident (no kidding huh?). I instantaneously flipped the laptop over and threw napkins over it to get rid of it.
Laptop is working, but keys on the top right a kinda sticky.. ( no not from pron)
Should I take it apart to clean ? If so, how hard is it to reach the area under the chiclet keyboard.
(I've opened it before to install SSD and more RAM) -
The Elan service keeps crashing upon boot. Does it every time. I've uninstalled and re-installed but it still crashes. Can't figure out why.
-
They like to be at roughly 40%, not 80 or higher

Anyone tried using the displayport out on the UX32vd to a 2560 x 1600 screen?
Would it support such resolution?
Thanks in advance. -
I'm thinking of getting the DS72 today - now just to confirm, this model has 2x128GB mSATA SSD instead of the dedicated nVIDIA card?
I'm not going to be gaming, so I'm assuming this is a better choice for me. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, no point wasting your money on an unused GPU.
-
I sounds good but do consider. And this is even more important if you are thinking upgrade. The RAID 0 speeds of this while faster than single SSD is not as good as it could be. Not sure if the controller or to be very real the less than top tier mSATA SSD's that come stock.
I do not see that the DS72 allows any RAM upgrade so you could be stuck with 4GB. This might not be a problem for you. The lower cost vs the UX31 model with 256GB SSD that you cannot upgrade the SSD or RAM and pay $200 more for could be an issue. But it is lighter and thinner, is RAID 0 that important?
The UX32VD-DH/DB 71's can upgrade RAM and a Single SSD. Yea you get stuck with a dGPU you don't need. But the added RAM and while more expensive you can buy one of the best SSD's and throw in.
Just thoughts. The GPU model offers more SSD options for less and more RAM. Worth a thought. -
Can anyone help me, whats wrong when I plug in my charger, but the light is blinking between orange and green? It does not seem to charge
-
Run the battery down to a level where it should charge. Even say 50% to be sure. Then plug in, is it doing the same? If so then MoBo or adaptor, I hope adaptor. If it stays constant orange then I think it is more likely in the charging circuit (MoBo).
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Check the light on the PSU to see if it also flashes if it has one.
-
Sadly if like mine does not have. But to get more specific and harder to explain than do. Here goes. When doing that flicker thing move mouse so curser over battery icon in system tray. Should pop up if charging and level of. If Windows does not "flicker" then likely adaptor issue. Could even be just the light? Several have had to get replacement adaptors from Asus.
None of this is great diagnostic advice I am giving but it is what you can do at no cost very easily yourself and might yield info. -
Wait... you really scared me there for a moment with the RAM! I've read back in this thread and owners of DS72 are saying that the RAM is OK to upgrade in the same way - see this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...sus-ux32vd-owners-lounge-118.html#post9162152
Where did you hear otherwise? Just wanted to make sure. -
I must be wrong. I assumed what I said because the retailer site did not offer an upgrade. But the link you showed has someone who did it. I would go with the post you linked unless someone else knows better.
I was wrong. -
No problem... got worried since I already ordered both and they are shipping
Will update here when I get them and do the upgrade.
-
No idea why my Elan software would crash upon boot or login after working fine for a long time. Did it every single time. I tried every version of the Elan software I could find, but the only version that wouldn't crash is the one on Asus's site. I don't like it as much as what I was using, but I guess I don't have a choice.

Just pulled the trigger on the ux32vd-dh71 + an extra 8gb RAM and a Samsung Pro 840 256. STOKED
So last thing to tie up is the OS and since I had to buy this with Win8 and I need to end up with a 'pro' OS (for work) im trying to decide what I should do. Initially thought about just grabbing a win 7 pro from ebay, but then I saw the Win8 Pro Pack - specifically to upgrade win 8 to win8 pro. What I wonder, is in the future, each time I want to re-install the OS, will I have to install the base level first and then the pro pack upgrade? Or do I get an auth key for Win 8 Pro and then can do a clean win 8 pro installation each time?
Or should I just say F win 8 and get a win 7 pro auth key.
Thoughts? What would you do? -
I am less than current so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. Let others confirm before you jump. This was in the past a rather lengthy discussion on NBR. The "upgrade" package was not as presumed by many to only allow an "upgrade" not a clean install. That seemed to make common sense but it was wrong. The upgrade included both the "upgrade" and full install option. To make clear the reason for upgrade while the antitheses of what many/most users on this site want is actually desired by the other 99.99% of users. The upgrade saves your "data" the clean install not.
As such I think you will be fine. But I am only relying on common sense and other than good intentions is the road to Hell.
While what Pro offers is really not very significant in the scheme of the OS. More a feature to differentiate and generate profit. I don't see why compatibility would be an issue I would want others who really know this stuff to confirm.
I hear W8 has many optimizations and I can't argue as I just do not know. It is faster? It is more stable? And on and on. Other than touch which you don't have what does W8 offer?
Just saying consider. Also just trying to get the conversation started. I hope you get better more specific comments.

Hi All,
First post here. I seem to have a strange problem with my UX32VD, maybe someone can help me out?
I bought it about 3 months ago, upgraded the ram with ‘Crucial’ memory to 10GB. All was working fine until a few days ago, when the system suddenly freeze and all I could do was a hard reset by holding the power button down.
It started up again and seemed fine, but after closing the lid and taking it to work, it had gotten extremely hot when I took it out of the bag. Opening the lid didn't do anything. The screen stayed black whatever I tried, the machine very hot and a fan spinning like crazy.
So all I could do was a hard power reset, which worked. But now the boot up time is extremely long, around 8 min.!!! And this stayed like this, every time I boot up its about 8 min.
I completely reinstalled the system back to its factory settings (F9 during boot), but still the boot up time is extreme slow. Still about 8 min.
I think there is probably some problem with the internal 24GB ssd. The ssd doesn't show up when I open windows disk manager, the disk manager only shows the 500GB internal Hard-drive.
Intel Rapid Storage Technology shows under status; sata disk 466GB and below it says 'Internal Empty port 1'
But the 24GB ssd does show up in the bios... I am confused, anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Did my internal 24GB ssd die?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks. -
Just got my UX32VD-DS72 in the mail!! This is the model with the 2x128GB SSD drives, which from my understanding, includes SSD INSTEAD of the dedicated graphics card. Right??? I have BOTH - 256 GB and nVidia 620M (1 GB).... I'm surprised because it was my understanding that this was NOT included in the DS72 model??! Is this normal or am I somehow lucky?
Edit: Also - has anybody removed the stickers? Like the HDMI sticker on the front? is it possible? It's not perfectly straight so it's bothering me..... -
Yes, it's normal. All the ux32vd's have the dedicated gpu
Yes it's possible to remove the stickers they are glued, try applying heat and then remove -
Confirm you have the 2x128GB SSD's and not a single 256GB SSD. The DS72 is not listed w/620m.
-
Yes...2 in mSATA, sorry. It came partitioned in half (with tons of space wasted for recovery) but I have reformatted it to be one 230 GB SSD drive and yes, it has a 620m (as well as Intel HD 4000 installed??).... it even has the sticker on the computer
Now, I did a clean install of Windows 8 but now I'm wondering from others - what's the situation with your graphics card? It appears that Intel HD 4000 is the default card. I'm not sure if this is correct or not? I must be missing some kind of software to make them collaborate with each other??
I also have a ton of unknown devices.... Nvm, that was me missing the Intel Thermal driver -
Hi all, great thread. Sorry if this has been covered already, but I'm having battery life issues.
What is the average battery life everyone is getting? Currently when fully charged I'm only getting 3 hours 10 min, when the battery drops to 94% i get 2 hours. This is with nothing running, display brightness turned on full and keyboard backlight off. No major programs running in the background. The only mods I've made is upgrading the RAM to 10GB. -
I really like this notebook, and I have no problems with it at all, but I think that I am going to sell it and go back to a Macbook. I'll probably put it on eBay unless someone here is interested in it. It's been upgraded to 10GB and a 250GB SSD and has an extended warranty.

Any news on a refresh for this? Seems like Asus blew its load at Computex but didn't mention anything about the UX32VD or a similar replacement.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They may be riding out these for a little bit since they were late launches.
-
@Jonstar turn down the screen brightness it is the main power draw in the scenario you describe. Adjust the power profile also. But at the end of the day it does not have the greatest battery or battery life.
-
The Zenbook Infinity kinda replaces both UX31A and UX32VD with its 28W i7-4558U with Iris graphics. Intel claims this chip more than doubles HD4000 ULV performance , though it wouldnt surprise me if UX32VD's GT620M (that beats many GT540M based notebooks and allows you to overclock it if you want) would still win in actual gaming performance.
-
Hey guys,
I purchased a UX32-VD and I really like it. I don't really have issues with fan noise or even the trackpad. The only problem is that when I startup the system (not wake up from sleep), connecting to internet with the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235: driver 15.2.0.16) is really slow. All the internet related programs (ie., steam, network drives) freeze like 30sec till the connection is established and i'm pretty sure that the router is not involved since it only happens with my UX32. Any advice? -
Yes, but imagine what a Haswell UX32VD could be - maybe with a GT740M or so - now that would be awesome. I also wish I could have this 1080p 13.3" Matte Screen on the new model - having too high a DPI means you have to adjust the display settings which then make external monitors connected look funny - this is the sweet spot - higher res just doesn't help and would kill games with very little to gain (the UX32VD display is plenty sharp as it is). I wish they could have a matte touchscreen, but I'd rather just take the matte if not - and the full size HDMI port on this is excellent for watching movies at friend's places without having to worry about forgetting the adapter.
And I agree the graphics performance of the Infinity won't match the UX32VD and the resolution issues will be a pain when gaming - the gorilla glass 3 lid/rest are nice but otherwise there are a lot of drawbacks for us. Plus we lose the ability to upgrade to whatever standard size SSD we want - but the battery life will be much better and if it is able to go into a low power state and still stay connected...
Yes. The wifi adapter is garbage. That is the reason I have been thinking of returning mine. I reverted back to the Microsoft Driver to fix a lot of drop out issues but the reception is still bad and it takes 30 secs to connect after sleep - I believe I've posted here before asking others if they have this issue.
See Sporadic but recurring connection dropouts on an Intel 6235 wireless adapter or intel centrino advanced-n 6235 sporadic dropouts and freezing for how many people are having issues with this card (including many UX32VD owners).
If I do a direct comparison, a ping test or speed test vs. my 4 year old N10J the N10J wins hands down for connection speed, quality and consistency. That is awful.
Some throw out the card and get a Killer N or other card instead and then tape or solder the antennas since they are smaller than normal. I personally would rather not have to do that, but there seems to be no other solutions except that or return the notebook
Peter -
I just did a test head to head between my UX32VD and my N56VZ.
I would put both computers to sleep while on battery and then wake them and attempt to search something on Google.
In the best case, the UX32VD was able to load a page 17 seconds after waking.
In the best case, the N56VZ was able to load a page at 6 seconds after waking.
Worst cases for both were pretty bad, for the UX32VD it took 60 seconds for it to load on one of the runs - the average was about 36 seconds overall. I could often see it coming up as disconnected in the side bar and then connecting many seconds later, sometimes with a limited time in between.
On the N56VZ the worst case was 36 seconds, average was about 20 seconds.
Are the UX32VD figures what others are seeing for how long it takes to reconnect to wifi post sleep?
Thanks,
Peter
P.S. The above was performed with the UX32VD on battery saving mode - on high performance the best run was 14 seconds and the worst was 48. And I always have my Wifi Adapter set on Maximum Performance to try to eliminate the dropout issues.
