Hey guys,
I'm looking to get a new SSD to replace the HDD in my UX32VD. One quick question I had was - how and where can I back up the ASUS recovery partition?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
-
I have wireless performance issues even in Ubuntu 13.04. I can go about 10 meters away through 1 wall and receive poor wireless reception on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz, to the point were I can barley browse the web. I have also tried many different router configurations, which sometimes does improve performance, but only slightly. I really do not feel like modifying the antenna connectors, as I do not want to void my warranty. Are there any alternative WiFi cards that will fit the connectors in the UX32VD?
All other devices that I have, have no issues.
These issues are with a very high powered Asus RT-AC66U router also. -
Yes, it's definitely an issue with the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 - it's just bad. I thought it was me or the router also, but it's certainly not. The only advantage of that card over others is that it has WiDi - but with the Microsoft Drivers i had to downgrade too it's not supported anyway - but at least my connection doesn't drop as much :/...
As for your question, as far as I know - no.
Here's the closest, from the thread I quoted before
And note that all of this doesn't include investigating the slow start that I and SquareP are experiencing.
Peter -
suspected that there was no other WiFi alternatives, due to the different antenna connectors. The killer NIC was the one I was looking at replacing the Intel one with. Hopefully I can get it to work with as little modifications as possible. It seems I may be able to just modify the actually killer WiFi itself and not the antenna wires/connectors, thus avoiding any warranty issues.
-
Yes, the person said they were able to get a solid connecting with just some tape - so a bit of electrical or similar insulated tape and you should be fine. Please let us know - though at this point I might just give up and return my UX32VD... :/
-
What about the Intel 6300 series, do these have Bluetooth and are they immune to the issues? Generally I like Intel hardware, as it is usually very reliable.
-
Thanks for the quick reply Peter... I can't say that i'm not dissapointed to hear that it's not a problem with the card's driver. Maybe i'll try to find a network card that fit in the UX32 and support 5.0 GhZ (i still can't believe that i'm stuck on 2.4!)

Its not the card fitting but the antennas I believe. Could go all out and get a card and your own antennas.
-
I tried to put an Intel 6300 into the laptop. The antenna holes are larger, so it doesn't fit either. Sad, I thought that it would be the same antenna since it is intel and intel..
Guess it's not the case. -
Hello, owners of the UX32VD!
I am thinking of buying this particular model Asus UX32VD-BHI5N57 – 13.3″ Laptop – 4GB Memory – 500GB Hard Drive – Radiant Silver | Laptop Specifications 2013
Are there any problems that I should be aware of? I heard something about overheating and noisy hdd?? -
It seems there are also half size mini-pcie Intel 6300 adapters. I also can't seem to find if they have Bluetooth, so I suspect these adapters may not.
Here is one of them: Amazon.com: Intel Half Centrino Ultimate-n 6300 Pci-e Card 633anhmw 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz Spectra 450 Mbps (10056): Electronics -
Correct, it doesn't have bluetooth. It is a wifi only card

Only 2 antennae cards currently support bluetooth.

Hey guys,
I've been doing a lot of research on the UX32VD recently. I've come to the conclusion that this laptop fits my needs nearly perfectly.
I do want the benefit the added energy efficiency that the next gen Haswell chips claim to provide. However, the newly announced Zenbook Infinity and UX31LA are NOT attractive options for me. They are both touchscreen machines, and I don't want to pay a premium for a feature I will never use on a PC.
I simply want the UX32VD with a Haswell processor, with no other changes.
I'm worried Asus won't be able to accommodate this as this touchscreen "fad" seems to have made this feature standard on upcoming laptops.
Should I wait and hope that Asus will release a non-touchscreen Haswell version of the UX32VD, or should I wait for the current UX32VD to hit a trough in pricing and pull the trigger?
Thanks. -
Hey Guys,
I've purchased a new SSD and was trying to install windows 8 onto the new hd.
I found a Windows 8.iso and put it on a USB. I am booting into it and attempting to install a clean copy of windows, however I keep getting a product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available' message.
Any ideas? I read that the Cd Key is in the BIOS, not sure how to proceed from here.
Can anyone please assist?
Thank you! -
The key in the BIOS is for the Core version of Windows 8 (just Windows 8). Sounds like your USB does not have that most basic version and that is the one that the product key corresponds to.
Peter -
Thanks Peter, I'm now downloading a new ISO, which should work.
it's titled 'en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso'
EDIT: This worked! For all the guys looking to reformat, find this ISO. -
Just wondering, what drivers are you guys using for the touchpad? If possible could you please provide URL's? I heard that there was an elantech one floating around, but couldn't find that. I've installed the ones off Asus' site.

just posting an update, going on about 6 months w/ this laptop and its been pretty good since SSD install, anyone who hasn't read the entire thread, I used it before and after SSD and the machines just runs so much faster w/ ssd, the caching just doesnt work well, spend the $180 for a 240gb 7mm SSD... though now and then, maybe once a month, ill shut down and it will just hang, with the windows 8 circles just spinning forever. I'm not seeing running into any posts with this problem, so im guessing im one of the few who shut down instead of hibernate... I am not have wireless issues though, but maybe those few extra seconds its takes to boot helps it connect before i access my desktop...

Try use dll fixer. Speeds up my comp

If you have a crucial M4, try updating it's firmware.

Hello UX32VD experts, I have just installed a 840Pro SSD and wiped my system clean and downgraded to Win7. The problem is, athough I have prowl through the driver list on the asus support website, I still cannot get all my driver to identify every piece of Hardware on the laptop. ( SUPPORT)
Please see this photo for a better understanding. I have scrreenshot all my drivers here, notice there are 7 hardwares that I am UNABLE to identify.
Can someone please kindly tell me what could those potentially be? IF NOT, can someone just be kind enough to upload their driver list so i can compare and try to google the driver back?
ON A SIDENOTE: Does anyone know how to default disable the keyboard backlight?
Thanks and sincerely,

Should i buy the UX32VD now(1300$) and opgrade SSD and RAM or should i wait for the Haswell CPU?
and if i wait for an new ultrabook with Haswell CPU, will it cost like 2000-2300$?
or is there an other new ultrabook with better hardware and price? -
Ambi: use AIDA64, go to Devices/Windows Devices, look for the "Unknown" devices on the list (right pane), you will see the names of each hadware device in the lower pane. This always helps to identify what driver is missing.

Got a simliar problem a few weeks ago. The thermaltake driver solved this problem.
Got a little problem myself. I love my Ux32VD but I am not very satisfied by it's battery runtime. I run Win 8.1 with all drivers installed. But I only get two hours battery life, in battery saving mode, surfing the web, half the screen birghtness. BatteryBar pro tells me that my ux32 needs 23mW this seems a lot to high it should need between 8 to 12mW.
Anybody got this problem and solved it ? I really don't know what to do any more
best regards
(sorry for my bad english

Have you checked nothing is triggering your GPU in the background?

Hello,i developed a App expecially for UX32VD Users. Cant find any other related Forum,so i post it here.
It turns the "Wireless Lan Led" on and off or let it blink. Useful if you like the Thinklight on Thinkpads like me.
It uses the ATK Device,so you will need to install the ATK Driver. Wireless Console 3 may be started,no Problem yet.
First i release only the Sources(its in C#),and then if the Moderation allows,i can release the binarys.
*Danger: use it at your own risk, i dont guarantee anything. May void the Guarantee of your Laptop*
Usage:
blink.exe 0 = turn led OFF
blink.exe 1 = turn led ON
blink.exe 2 = blink 2 Times
blink.exe 3 = blink 3 Times
blink.exe x = blink x Times
Download the Sources:

anyone know where you can buy replacement screws for this laptop? I opened it up a couple times when swapping the memory and HD and a few of the screws I thought were close to getting stripped.
also anyone know if swapping the hd voids the warranty? I assume it does, but need to send the laptop back if cleaning out all the dust inside the laptop doesnt fix the fact a few of my keys stopped working. -
Funny you should ask. I just received some screws today for a similar purpose - I am assuming you are referring to the screws for the base plate rather than any internal screws? You will want M2 sized screws, which refer to 2mm diameter threads.
Here is the link to the website I used -http://www.metricscrews.us/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=98_5
As for length, I ordered the 3mm length screws, which turned out to be longer than the ones that came with the laptop. They still were fine for some of the holes though, I think because 1) some of the screw holes are actually deeper than 3mm and 2) the heads of the screws I ordered (wafer heads) were wider in diameter than the original ones, which means instead of settling into the indentations for the screws in the baseplate, they just cover them. I haven't tried using them on all the holes though, so don't know if 3mm would be too long for some. So if you want to be safe you could get both 3mm and 2.5mm length versions.
One other thing - not only were the heads wider in diameter, but also thicker. Functionally it doesn't really matter since they're not gonna exceed the thickness of the rubber feet, but it just may not be as aesthetically pleasing. -
Hey UX32VD owners, I hope any of you guys are technically educated enough to answer my question regarding to hardware of UX32VD.
Now I do not own UX32VD, but I do own UX32A which is pretty much the same, expect slower hardware. Now I was thinking to get UX32VD motherboard off ebay and replace mine to get nvidia graphics and better processor, but my problem is regarding to the display: would the VD board work with 1366x768 or it requires full hd display connected to the LVDS? I am not sure if the resolution of these machines are motherboard dependent somehow or not.
Thanks in advance -

Also make sure you have the latest intel chipset drivers. -
Hi Jimbub, great idea, I have a mushkin chronos deluxe tho but just emailed them for info as to if there current firmware is for my ssd, thanks will report back if it helps...

I checked the Nvidia GPU and it say's "no activity". The Intel GPU is set to battery/engery saving...

Hi
I got a brand new Asus ux32vd couple of month ago with win8 operation system and i desparately need your help....
Since day one I feel that the performance of computer is not good as it should be (according to it's spec. And reviews), the biggest issue is that I bought a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and in suffers from lags and bad delays. I tried the mouse on several computers with win8 & win7 and the mouse performs excellent.
I reinstalled win8 from scratch and the mouse still have lags.
I uninstalled the intel bluetooth driver and re-installed it again (i got the driver from ASUS site) - nothing helped
Do you know about an issue with the Bluetooth?
What can I do?
By the way.....I am very disappointed from the product - and I don't know if it's becuse of win8 or some thing else.... -

by the way.... I am very disappointed from the product, -
I see the problem when I have wifi and lan on at the same time. I disconnect from the wireless connection then the mouse works fine.
-
so it is an issue.... from what i understand from you, you can't work with a bluetooth mouse an wifi together!?!?!?!?
it is not normal.... -
So I have a rather strange issue, and I am not sure how to describe it for googling ...
I just got UX32VD and installed new RAM and SSD, and reinstalled Win8. All that went through ok (though it took two days to get it all done). What's weird is the feel of the aluminum shell. When the laptop is plugged in, and I move my hand against the shell, I feel it 'buzzing' like it has micro-vibrations - it is a very unpleasant feel. When I unplug the charger, the vibration is gone and the shell seems smooth. Has anyone experienced this? To note, I had this from the moment I plugged in the laptop for the first time, before I even opened it to install new things.
For the record I'm somewhat disappointed in the laptop. Sharp edges, light bleed, a mess of Wifi, and I have a sticking 'E' key ... -
No, the Bluetooth mouse seems to work fine if it's only wifi + mouse. If it's wifi +lan + mouse, then the mouse is erratic. What I mean by wifi + lan is that if you have a hard wire connection to the internet and don't turn off or disconnect the wifi, then the mouse is erratic. (at least in my situation).
-
Please guys, correct me if I am wrong. Asus does have a single board-card for Wifi & BT. I don´t think this is an issue. But use BT for more than 1 device (example headset + mouse) may be an issue in integrated board-card like this. (what do you guys think? is that the issue you are facing today secondclaw ?).

Those devices will all be on an internal bus, it may just be that there is an IRQ conflict with them.
I've had a bluetooth mouse, lan + wifi on a couple of integrated Bluetooth + wireless cards without issue. -
huge problem!
merged d and c drives, bad idea. Caused a boot loop, error code 0xc0000225.
I want to boot into win 8 repair mode, but don't know how!
Never got a win8 cd from ux32vd box
Can't use the win8 installer to make a usb image since there's no serial key
Anyone know how I can save my zenbook?
__
edit: I've opted to use the boot-from-usb route. Will try to get a fresh copy of a win8 iso from microsoft's servers onto my usb. I'm just afraid that it won't end up booting, for some reason. Fingers crossed.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/install-windows-8-usb.htm -
my wifi issue is apparently pretty common. My wifi card either fails to reconnect to the router after sleep or randomly looses connectivity, specifically connection to the gateway. I have tried a few things - installing Intel ProSet wireless tools, disabling BT, rebooting my router, but its still unstable. What's weird is its not happening all the time - I may reboot the laptop 10 times and it will fail to reconnect to wifi 2 or 3 times.
-
Install win8 iso on a usb key then reboot into usb. You don't need serial, its stored in the BIOS.
Boot into win8 via USB, then when install starts it will give you a choice to do repair. Go to advanced repair then command prompt. From there you can access diskpart and clean the disks. As a matter of fact, I had to do just that to get win8 to install (I made a big mistake trying to clone the original drive first).
I would recommend using UEFI tool (don't have the name right now) to install the ISO on the USB drive, this way you can install win8 in UEFI mode. It seems to work great (minus all the annoying issues we're all having).

I've run into some errors:
refresh your pc - "the drive where windows is installed is locked"
reset your pc - " a required drive partition is missing."
diskpart commands - "the selected disk is not a fixed mbr disk"
-when I bootrec /scanos, it successfully identifies that the windows installation is in C:/Windows. I can even see my files are still there when I go to system image recovery>select system image>advanced>install driver
-when I bootrec /rebuildbcd, I get "the requested system device cannot be found" when trying to add installation to boot list.
-when I bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot, the operation is completed successfully.
Putting a windows 7 iso onto usb this time to see if I can unlock the drive where windows is installed. Next option is to get linux on a usb, and salvage some files. At the end of the day I can try and reinstall windows 8 entirely but I'm not even sure if that will work. -
here's my post from reddit, to add any info to my issue
Asus ux32vd (zenbook, no cd drive), windows 8. bios is 2.15 I believe, never updated it from factory settings.
Used a tool to merge my D drive with C drive to give me more space, bad idea. Went into a boot loop, Error code: 0xc0000225. Put windows 8 iso from microsoft servers onto a usb, accessed the repair tool and clicked "troubleshoot."
Here's what happens for every tool there:
Refresh your PC - "the drive where windows is installed is locked"
Reset your PC- "a required drive partition is missing."
system restore- "you must specify which win. installation to restore. restart, select OS, and select system restore"
system image recovery - windows cannot find system image on this computer. I click cancel, then click next with 'select system image' button pressed. Nothing shows up in the list, so I click 'advanced>install a driver' and I can see all my files are still on the drive. 'OS C:' has all my files AND is bigger from the merge that failed, 'restore (D
has recoveryimage>install.wim, and Boot (X
also has some files in it. It also sees my usb with win8 on it, in the E: drive.
Here's what I have tried:
-bootrec commands. /scanos identifies win installation on my C drive. /rebuildbcd gives me 'the requested system device cannot be found" when trying to add installation to boot list. /fixmbr & /fixboot operations complete successfully.
-diskpart commands. I'm not too familiar with them but it seems to give me "the selected disk is not a fixed mbr disk," maybe I'm selecting the wrong one?
Currently I'm putting win7 onto a usb to see if its repair tool can unlock my drive somehow. Next I'll have to try a usb bootable linux, to see if I can salvage some documents. I'm all for reinstalling win8 entirely, but I don't know how to do that.
Thank you for anyone able to help me in my endeavor to save my pc! -
man this is long winded. So I rebooted my pc yet again to get it ready for asus phone service, when the aomei partition assistant popped up (pre-os) and failed, then auto reboot. Then my pc booted back into its regular partition like nothing ever happened. Apparently the merge worked after all, because now my C drive is twice as big and nothing bad has happend in 5 minutes.
I'm afraid to restart computer, so it's staying on for a while. Going to backup my data and make a recovery partition. Bullet dodged somehow, I guess. -
Hi, All
I recently upgraded to the Windows 8.1 Preview from Windows 8 (and originally from the original Windows 7 image that came with my UX32VD). I have been using the Asus FaceLogin software ever since I first got this thing, and it's worked great up until a week or so ago when it suddenly stopped working on login.
On startup, no longer do I get the FaceLogin window, just my user account and FaceLogin (which does nothing). The camera is working fine, it works fine in applications like LifeFrame and even the the FaceLogin Gallery.
I've tried uninstalling the FaceLogin and LifeFrame applications, but no dice. Has anyone else who still uses FaceLogin had this issue? -
Hi everyone,
I also have the UX32 for my work computer and it is driving me insane.
Right after bootup, I end up with only 1GB of available RAM, I experience lags and hiccups while I am just having browsers, word and outlook open and the HDD light is always on. I haven't changed any of the interiors, since this is my work computer. Also completely resetting and reinstalling everything is out of the question, since it will keep IT busy.
Is there any way for me to improve this situation? I have already deinstalled most of the ASUS software, but no positive change in RAM. Will adding more RAM help or will the HDD just stay always busy and keep lagging my system?
Really disappointed, so far. This is not worth calling itself i7 Ultrabook...
Thanks for your input!

Check for malicious software or anything taking up lots of ram in the task manager (you can select to sort in order of ram usage).
