Yeah like I said at this point the A1 is the best deal......Unless of course you live in Canada![]()
NewEgg = total confusion. Do they shoot darts at their price guide.
US Egg's X2 is the same price as the A1 but without a BD player and less one 320 HDD ????
However the Canadian Egg's X2 after conversion to USD is over $300 less than the A1 and US X2 as well as the X1 (they still have it up on their site).
The X1 is still available although out of stock on the Canadian Egg, so I'm not sure if this next shipment of X1's due in at the end of April are exclusive for Canada or if they will reappear in the US? Heck maybe they are just filling in all the DOA replacements. Guess a few more days and we shall know.
Also regarding the flickering in games. My last X1 aka my last RMA for DOA had the same issue. It seemed that if I started the Catalyst application and then ended the program through the manager the issue didn't happen when I went back into the game. Odd as it was it seemed to work but remember that W90 was RMA'd back and the problem was duplicated (1 of a few) which resulted in me awaiting my 3rd New W90 which should arrive next week once the shipment of X1's arrives at the ASUS HQ.

they say it is a driver issue http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?p=3602447
apparently catalyst 9.1 fixes it but I don't know how to install those in this laptop -
Nope just email options *cries*
am i just jacked up? or is it 20 posts.... ugh y did vbulletin change on me AGAIN!!! -
wow! i just realized this thread was 531 pages long!!! how long has this system been around? AND ME NOT KNOWING ABOUT IT!!! i live under a rock... no really i do
-
nope just add as buddy and view view public profile...i already tried =P
-
Nah its been out a few months now or around there. -
I could just partition the 320 to 120 and 200 and just raid 1 the drives.
Or I could just do regular backups...which everyone does religiously...right...?
Regardless...the hard part, (actually, not that hard), is over. I'll work something out, I imagine. -
hey man good luck with that
-
sorry but I read Warhammer had the same problem with already two laptops. Knowing ATI bad reputation for drivers and after reading lots of forums everyone practically says it is driver issue and not hardware.
-
shoot from the hip. try random drivers
-
WOW!!! i just realized it is 12:21AM in the morning and my shift ends at 12:00
and i just got done eating an omlet that was randomly brought to me =P YUMMY!!!
I wish you all good day and good luck with your Flickering issues. and i will also do some research on these cards to see if they are known for frying and/or crapping due to flickering (i think it is a driver issue)
GOOOD LUCK!!!
oooooh there is a mouse in here.............. I'M GONNA GO CHACE IT!!!!!
LATER!!!! -
DOH!!! just realized that i cannot leave till this project im doing is done so i have another 20 mins or so...

*poof in a coud of smoke* -
Hey Whatisnotebook here is a modded 9.1 for our cards . If they work for you send a special thank you to E-wrecked as he did all the work awhile ago for me whilst we were experimenting on trying to get drivers to work. I had to dig through 300 messages to find them so hopefully they work out for you..
http://ewrecked.darksmileysystems.co...64bitVista.zip
Download the 9.1s and dump the INFS into the directory etc etc . -
the link is broken
-
-
you pasted it wrong. it has the 3 dots in middle
-
http://ewrecked.darksmileysystems.com/E-wrecked9_1_64bitVista.zip
try that one . When i copy pasted the link thats what i came up with so now i had dig thru all that crud again . Enjoy . Oh and this is an all enclusive package so it already has the drivers for you. -
tried it but it is still doing it. very noticeable in Mirrors Edge. Happens rarely in Fallout3. I guess it is because Mirrors Edge has a lot of overly lighted environments.
I will just leave these drivers anyways because I don't notice any difference between them and I want to avoid the problem of cleaning my system off drivers again -
Might be a hardware issue then . I do not have the problems you speak of and since were all running the same bios for our mainboards and videocards then it points back to a hardware issue.
-
sure, well I will just wait until next year to send it to get replaced if it is really hardware issue.
I can run all those game really fast with the highest settings anyways even if i don't use crossfire. -
Yeah thats definitely one way of looking at, plus they may release a bios update for the mentioned problems ya never know . You should think about posting your problems on the official Asus forums and maybe sending the tech side a email .Maybe if enough people complained they would do something .Cant hurt.
-
Well i just instlalled the 9.1s since i finally can now properly and it fixed my issue with saints row 2
so im happy . now to test some other games to see how the stack up against 9.4s.
-
To everyone who's getting the flickering issue, I've had it for 2 months
I believe I posted about these problems very early on in the thread, since me and striker were the first ones to grab w90s back in Feb. Playing wow, I get insane flickering, although its much better in windowed mode. I also notice flickering and white lines in random game menus or when simply browsing. It hasn't been that much of a hindrance to gameplay, but I figured that I could wait for driver updates since these problems seem fairly common and I doubt it is a hardware problem with my w90 exclusively. Don't want to send my w90 in AGAIN for rma and have them just send it back because they don't feel that "screen flickering" is reason for a new system. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the flicker issue is because of the way crossfire is working. (afr mode.) try different drivers or disable AI and see what happens.
-
yeah disabling AI works but that kinda defeats the purpose of having 2 cards
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah i know. but he should try different drivers and if it doesn't work then disable AI. it happens to me to. as long as it isn't all the games. i am fine.
-
Ya i ended up going back to 9.4 and just disabling AI for Saints Row2 since it didnt seem that Crossfire was helping the framerate either way and 9.4s brought many fixes for games along the way since 9.1, so better framerates overall. I did manage to get a proper working 9.4 control panel working from mobility 9.4 Win7 drivers and it actually has the crossfire option available to us now . I found this a few days ago but forgot to post it :O.. Also the new 9.4 drivers for Win7 work as a straight install in Win7 with no modding needed .
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx
So basically if you have 9.4 installed already in Vista64 just uninstall the old ATI control panel from add remove programs, then run these drivers and it will just install the new control panel in vista with all features working. Enjoy. -
-
I don't think it's the hardware. In TF2, it works perfectly if played in a window...flickers like crazy, when not.
Actually, only some textures flicker. In TF2, some ground and water flickers, and everything else is rock solid. -
can you give me the link for the infs you are using for 9.4?
-
The INFs from the Vicious guide are what im using atm . E-wrecked made some tweaked INFS for the 9.4s aside from the ones for Vicious guide, but i cant seem to get those to install and since he hasnt been on much lately i havent been able to ask him to take alook at what maybe wrong with them .
As for texture flickering you may want to play around with Antialiasing within the game as well as Aniosotropic filtering to see if enabling/lowering will have any effect on it . -
-
The one in Vicious guide is for vista64 the problem is we were always stuck using the old 8.12 control panel for any new drivers . This new set of drivers has the control panel we need and works fine in Vista64 however the actual drivers themselves are made for Win7 and only work there .
So in turn we finally get the proper CCC in Vista64 using the Win7 CCC . -
so if you flash the other video card to master does the crossfire still work????
-
We were like 4 sets behind current ATI drivers and thats way to far behind. -
Well i gotta say I really feel for all you who got a defective W90. This has been a disaster for me as well. The original issue of Turbo Gear going haywire when I boot up hasn't gone away even though I've disabled Speed Step, C-State, and CPU TM Function. As I type right now, my pc freezes every 5 seconds as Turbo Gear switches between the 3 power modes. But I got a bigger problem on my hands in that my fans are not working at all. My pc has crapped out twice now due to heat where it crashes and just displays vertical lines on the screen. I don't hear or FEEL anything as far as air coming out of the vent in the back. I left it off for a while and then powered up and loaded the bios and watched the VGA 1 temp go up to 74 C in the hardware monitor. The fan speed says it's running at around 2k but the back vent gets hot to the touch, and I'm just sitting in the bios, I haven't even loaded windows. I tried to flash the bios but WinFlash says it can't find the version so that's no good too. No word from Justin yet. I really feel for you Striker going through 4 of these cuz I'm about to chuck this thing out the window. 3k+ for nothing but a giant paper weight.
-
Sorry for my inquisitiveness since I am a freshman to ATI
PS: fortunately my machine is free from issues currently, but I am pretty afraid to encounter the graphic problems and so forth when I use newer drivers -
This driver from the ATI page is only to use its control panel and thats it not sure how i can explain it better then that ? it has 0 to do with the driver . You leave the card flashed as is and leave the E-wrecked modded drivers from the vicious pack as is . When you try to install the Win7 driver in vista its only going to let you install the control panel .

Hey Quad, thanks for getting back. I haven't removed the back panel because I just received it yesterday. Its possible that the fans are not plugged in. I want to wait and see what needs to be done in order to get one that's in 100% working order. I still have other problems, especially with the Turbo Gear modes, some of the hotkeys don't work (i.e. the button to toggle the touch pad so i'm stuck having it always on). And another weird thing has popped up where I have my iPhone plugged into one of the usb ports and randomly it will just reconnect and bring up that windows popup asking me what I want to do with the device. Either way, I very well could try to fix this but I want a laptop that's 100% working from day 1. So it looks like I'm gonna have to waste another month of my life waiting to return and receive a new one.
-
Well i would take the 2 minutes it would take and remove the 4 screws on the bottom panel and take a peak . it cant hurt for trying . The usb issue just might be the cable from your phone i have an iphone as well and the USB cable can be flaky from time to time . Also after checking out the fans i would reload the OS . Might sound like abit of work but it beats RMAing it if its something simple and stupid .

I just ran '06 on my -X2. Everything stock and default test settings gave me 11141...right about where I figured.
Tomorrow I'll try some overclocking.
Since ATI partners have released 4870x2 desktop cards, I wonder how those drivers would work, in modded form, on our machines. Would they be better or worse than single card 4870 drivers.
The reason I ask is that my bro has a desktop with a 3870x2 card and another with 2 discrete 3870 cards in crossfireX. The x2 machine seems much more stable and reliable. Since our machine thinks it has a x2 card, could that trick possibly work?
Just wondering 'cause I have no idea how to mod drivers even if it is practical... -
The beta version of Win7 inclines to download an incompatible driver from internet, resulting in blue screen. Luckily, the RC version includes a driver making a single card work. I guess flashing the bios may activate the other one. I will try it later. -
Yes if you flash the bios so both are master you will have 2 working cards and the crossfire option with that driver package in the link. If you were trying to get the older RC to work you probably already discovered that disabling a card in the bios will let you finish the install process .

Thank you for the new ccc Quad.
I'm downloading it now.
So, I just unistall old ccc and install new cc using this right?
And also don't mess with drivers..right? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
So did you notice any change in performance with the new CCC? I figured that it has very little to do with actual driver performance and the reason why they offer a DD only download. -
I just tried it and one thing convenient is the crossfire on/off mode.
I turn off crossfire mode by just one click and so easy.
Without crossfire mode, there is no flickering in 3dmarks or the games..
with enabling crossfire, flickering comes back..
Thank you Quad for this new CCC.. I Love it !! Now I can play CPS, mame and Neogeo .. hahaha
