Based on what I've read on the ocz site, it seems to me like I should be able to flash it as my second hard drive...or at least that's what I plan to try when I finish downloading all my stuff...which is taking forever. I should also be able to use sata on another unit to flash it.

yeah, it has to be flashed on the vertex drive.
i tested it before and after the flash and it shows a noticeable improvement.
    i did it on 5 drives so far.(the (2)60gb and the (3)120gb)
for the record the intel is still the fastest reading drive on the planet, but the vertex is the fastest writing. but when you get yours striker, we can make sure.

also to see what any ssd drive does before you do anything...
1: install it as a second drive with NOTHING ON IT.
    2: run hdtune 3.5
3: do the read, random and write test. this is the only time you can do the write part of the test. this will give you it's maxed performance rating.
4: then install your image and boot from your shiny new drive.
then do the read and random test vs your regular drive.

    edit:
if your running ahci..your gonna have problems...that's why some people use a different machine for flashing.... but i can test that theory...i still have another 60gb sitting here.
well scratch that...mine are in normal mode... :)

Actually the Vertex has faster large file writes and small file reads than the Intel drives, it's small file writes that the Intel SSD blows everybody away.

yeah, they do have a very high small file write..good thing most of my files are bigger than 4k... :)

because intel is killing it there. and ill trade that extra 12mb speed for 40 gigs of more space any time... :)

I just got finished with some Team Fortress 2 on all stock settings. There was some crazy texture tearing. I adjusted a bunch of the settings in the game but nothing worked...except playing in a window.

I had no problems with that. Seems odd but such is life.

No benchmarks but I can't imagine my unit is much different than anyone else's.

Does this flickering/tearing sound familiar to anyone?

Drivers are stock so far...I wanted to get my Vertex going before getting too deep into the overclocking process.

    I just finished flashing the 120gb Vertex. Piece of cake...actually, I dicked around way more than I needed to. I used this guide;

    http://www.ocztechnology.com/drivers/Vertex_Firmware_Flashing_Guide.pdf

I did everything on the guide except it wouldn't boot when I changed the SATA controller to IDE.

I changed it back to default SATA settings and it worked just fine. My drive is now v1.10.

The next step is to ghost the drives.

I think it was our spirited discussion of the various pros and cons of the HDX18T.

Seems when I said he was probably laughing but reading our messages, it was a reality.

Glad you agreed with what we would buy. Like I said, if gaming is any type of priority, W90Vp destroys the weak 9600M GT in the HDX18T. Smart move waiting on the QX9300 and doing it elsewhere. It will save you $500+ in your pocket.

Given that, if I did the math and compared the Vertex to a $99.00 500GB HDD would that mean you prefer the HDD? :p

Not sure as I do not know the vertex speed #'s off the top of my head.

Hey guys, just received my new W90 yesterday from xoticpc. Man what a beast. Just a couple questions that I was wondering if you could help me out with.

One weird issue I've run into, ever since I first booted up the PC, is that when I change the turbo gear setting to overclock, sometimes the modes automatically cycle through all three settings every 5 seconds or so. I should mention that I'm running a X25 SSD. But at first I should it was speed step, so I disable that in the bios, but I still cannot get the overclock setting to stay on all the time. And I still occasionally have to restart my pc due to turbo gear cycling through all the power settings. Is there any known issues with turbo gear? And is it possible to have turbo gear load on the 15% overclock setting on startup?

I just ordered my A1 From Xotic PC as well and I cant wait to get my hands on this Monstrosity of power.

It may take a while due to it being out of stock (there should be a lot more members here in this thread) and the fact I am in Iraq.

Once I get it and start tweaking it, I'll post some specs benchmarks and other goodies.

I was wondering though would it be wise to stay with the Q9000 or pop in a QX9300. It is a pretty expensive "pop in" dont you think?

I had tearing/flickering issues on Team Fortress 2 with stock drivers and no overclocking. I tried different in game settings but nothing worked. I finally tried it in windowed mode and everything was fine.

I have no idea what the issue is.

I have successfully cloned my hard drive and am now running on my 120Gb Vertex. There is a very noticeable difference in boot/load speeds. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for me.

I haven't yet figured out how to leave the original drive in the system without the computer trying to boot from it.

I may just save this one as is and put a spare 320 in as hdd 2.

LOL!!! I CANT WAIT!!! hurry up and put those *BLAM* sticks in!!!

keep me posted on how it goes

you can use my personal email for direct contact
do you know if it also has the capability to support that robson turbo memory because i was looking into that (I WANNA TRICK THIS THING OUT!!!)

as soon as they come with 512 SSD im gonna slap 2 of those bad boys in there WOOT!!!!

and as the QX9300 goes i may just see about that when i get back because just the system alone cost me a cash advance of $2431.38 so i gotta pay that back first =P i couldnt wait 5 paychecks to get it.

i had and alienware aurora m9700 and i found that 4 deployments to iraq and afghanistan was just too much for it. (it just took a crap on me and fried the motherboard)

im sad because it was a good machine for $649.00 LOL!!!!

this may sound like a lot of work but what i would do is get an external and take what you want off of your origional drove and then format it making it blank(duh) then put all of that stuff in the appropriate folders on the drive.

that is what I would do. unless you want to keep the OS intact then i would just keep it as a spare in case the vertex takes a crap on you.

I also do have same flickering issues from day one. Even after did all the updates and etc.. it still exists but less than when it was stock.
Also playing game in windows mode or turn off one gpu solved flickering issues..
Even 2d games samething.. like neogeo emulators.. windows mode is the only solution for me..
As of now I just live with it and if I can't fix this issue by the time I go back home.. I'll probably contact Asus and RMA it.. I'm three month away from ending my second deployment.

OK!!! wait? huh are u telling me to spam?

well i wont do that but i will post another interesting little tidbit i found

i remember reading some where that if you experiance this problem to go into your BIOS and disable one of your cards then reboot and reenable that card

BEWARE!!! i also read that doing this may permanently disable your card and may have to do a system restore.

ill let the big boys take it from here and explain the pros and cons of doing that

If thats the case then your going to have to call Asus and have an RMA . Reset everything to factory IE flash back the slave card and reload your OS with the factory dealy, first though back up with acronis free version from seagate discwizard and dump all that stuff to an external harddrive if you have acess to one so when you get the replacement machine you can just reimage the whole the right back to where you were before . I know none of this is what you wanted to hear but if you have these issues with the factory drivers and non flashed cards its one of your cards which is crapping out on you and the only real solution is to just send it in to them and its on there dime and hopefully wont take all that long .Either way call them and ask for the techs, explain whats going on , dont mention the flashing of the slave card nor 9.4s since this is happening with the factory stuff as well and see if they have a solution (which i know they wont since to date theres no new bios for anything videocards nor motherboard) .

Yea i have catalyst AI on all the time .

You could always as a last ditch effort if you have access to it is take a stock vista 64 disc and start from scratch by reinstalling everything and just load on the most basic of stuff, then load a game on and see if these issue still persists. Right now i have a fresh version of windows on mine not the factory one but i truly doubt thats whats causing the issue and its more hardware related.

Yes you can try that as well and yes it will mess with the second card but not everytime you disable then re enable it . When i was doing some single card runs for benchmark purposes there was times where after enabling the card again, while it was recognized by windows and showed up the Control panel, it was not actually using it in games . my benchmarks were still showing single card numbers. So what i did was decided if i was going to do single card testing just image the drive (which takes all over 4 minutes or so) then disable the card in the bios and when i was done enable it again via the bios then re image my OS . It all sounds like a lot of work but it Aint.

I do have turbo gear installed i do not have the turbo gear VGA driver installed but again i never had that problem with or without it installed .

Only one game to date is causing me issues and thats Saints row 2 has crazy scrolling scan lines going up and down when trying to play it . But im not sure if thats the 9.4s or flashing the slave card or what but i have just dealt with for now i cant play it because all the other games i have are flawless and the 9.4s brought to much performance to the table for me to go back to factory for 1 game that i have already beaten anyhoo.
