    Thanks for the reply Quadzilla.
I'm seriously interested in the W90. Being burned on that hp - questions about the Asus support vs failure and wondering about extending the warranty further are the main things keeping me from ordering.

If I could get at least 3 years of solid support vs failures I'd be happy. Its well worth paying for extended support to me. I just want to make sure Asus history of support on failures of this product is solid. If I got burned again I think I'd end up like Michael Douglas in "Falling Down". :p

Happen to have a visa elvn? I know some of the high end visas (read platinum or preferred) will extend manufactures warranty up to one year :)

Thanks for the replies all... that kind of info is what I'm looking for. "Their support and warranties are great" ..and . "Never has a problems with returning something for an RMA" is encouraging. I'll look into the visa thing but I don't mind buying another year or two of ext warranty if I have to.. I'd just consider it an insurance bill sorta.

Glad to hear this model doesn't burn your hand (or cook eggs). I think I would always use a notebook cooler on it as well though -- if I could find one big enough for this monster.

No Orion no one has a modded 9.5 at the moment . The one guy who mods our drivers has not been on much lately due to real life stuff and the 9.5s are currently beta so i did not bother him with it either .

Yeah 9.5's I need to see a change log to view if its worth the time, and they need to be out of beta.

From there I can try my best to get them working, but I am not the driver guy I am the bios guy :p

Yeah, I tried for a few hours changing the inf, and modifying the include tables in the msi but the closest i got to installing resulted in a BSOD immediately after completion.

Well truthfully its because we all got together to drink some beer and bs and during the chatter someone came up with the idea to mess with OriOn...

Ok, just kidding. Seems to me on internet forums you kind of have to hang around for a while so people can get a sense of who you are and what your about. I dont get much response from my posts either but I give it no mind. Folks come around given time. Soon enough people will think Im an idiot and want to pull my chain...

WOW! That was quick! I have not even received my laptop yet and it is already No.2! I do agree the W90 looks much better than the Sager, but I bet they don't have any issues with the Nvidia drivers.

Now I have to ponder, do I cancel my order and get a Sager for $100.00 more or keep the W90 and just spend $2400.00 on the 2nd fastest laptop on the market?

    Decisions....Decisions

Which CCC are people using? I'm still using the stock one with the 9-4 drivers. Is there any advantage to going to a different ccc?

    Thanks

If your going to be doing hardcore encoding then go with the Sager as nothing can touch my i7 for that stuff but for game performance the W90 still rocks because of the 2 GPUs which the 9850 wont have. The one to look out for is the M98 from Clevo with 2x280mgtxs 18.4 inch with a Qx9300 . That could put a decent beating on the W90 but also could cost 1k more atleast.

Id be happy with 1 card and the i7 if it wasnt so expensive and a freakin brick. Its very thick, its square, and it just doesnt look very good/ergomic to me.

You say spend $100 for it but did you look at that base model?

No 2nd HDD, lowest model i7, no OS, only 3gb RAM.

By the time you configure it similar to the W90 it cost much more than just $100 and your still going to lose in gaming performance.

Honestly those bench scores are not good,

3dmark06 is very cpu dependant and we know ths unit has a killer cpu, the vantage score is way lower than the W90 and they even used Phisics to boost it!

I think I am going to stay with Asus. I have had tons of Asus equipment and never had an issue with any of it. I use my laptop for gaming only. I have other machines for crunching numbers and I want a laptop for lan parties and gaming when I am on the road. I do have the occasional event where I have to pull out my gaming laptop in a room full of executives and they all crowd around asking how they can get one!

Believe it or not there are a BUNCH of closet gamers in corporate America.

Im not fond at all with the design of that chasis and im more surprised they didnt change it at all . There are people though who could care less about aesthetics and all about raw horse power so its a 2 way street for sure . I was digging on the M98 coming from clevo for quite sometime because of the specs, but i cant have a machine with end to end shiny plastic all over it as it would make me insane keeping the dust and crud off of it .

Yep, I met that hottie what wears the black leather in the matrix movie and asked her out and she said no. Thats when i realized she was ugly...

Kidding obviously but seriously I dont care if my laptop looks like a dog turd its what it can do that matters to me. I believe we wont see an out and out better game machine till the dual 280s hit in the sager and that configuration will be way more ching putting it out of my try and keep it in the low 2k ballpark every two year laptop upgrading scheme.

Actually I agree with Quad and Vicicous. One GTX280M and arltess appearance wont beat our W90 although it might take longer time to be eliminated due to the i7 processor. Let's just wait to see how will Sager NP9850(18.4",QX9300,GTX280M SLI) perform.

from post 4038 and on. of course that wasn't really fair since he was gpu overclocked and dual core stock and i was stocked quad(two cores) and stock gpu(except when he tried to show my down one dmc4) but no the 280m can't beat my crossfire yet alone 4870 crossfire.

for single runs 4850 vs 280m would be more like it. if both was crossfired/sli'd, i think the 4870 would outperform it. crossfire gets more performance then sli.

    check this benchmark out
    single
    http://i44.tinypic.com/2s1ojh0.jpg
    crossfired
    http://i41.tinypic.com/9baafl.jpg
the cpu doesnt matter in this game. i set my quad to 6x (1.6ghz) and i still recieved the same results. best gpu benchmarking game i have seen. but as you see crossfire even got double fps increase. in two scenes.

Personally i think the Dual 280mgtx are going to be faster then the W90 but not by as much as many are expecting. That 6888 score is your highest vantage run for dual GPUs ? and is that just a standard run ? or extreme ? I just figured you would get much higher then that if its just a standard run. heck i scored like 6300 on a single GPU run of vantage.

yeah i have a stutter problem with my computer i am trying to fix. that is why it is so low. i ran stocked and got 6400 once on gpu. my framerates keeps on dropping to 0 sometimes on games and benchmarks. even though i was stocked cpu and gpu overclock my score was only 7591. stocked everything was i think in the 9000. and when i overclocked to 3.2 i was at 12500. i just ran that and posted it to beat he score.

e-wrecked got i think 7600 on his gpu. but that's him.

edit: i think the w90 will beat the sager. we will have to wait and see but i think it is possible. what is your single gpu run on your w90?

    beats these

Why havent you formatted your machine to fix the stutter problem ? if thats what you think may be causing it ?. Next time you get a fresh install of the machine thats working good you should just use something like acronis and make an image of the main OS drive that way you dont need to go through all the reinstalling everytime your having issues.

i can't count the amount of times i formatted. it just keeps on stuttering. there is no help this. some people have reported there machines are fine but not mines.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=368282

btw i edited the post above with benchmarks from the sager machine. if you can beat these stocked gpu. single. then we know the winner.

Wow after reading that thread i had no idea there were so many issues with the Whitebook and the Qx9300 .Im sorry to hear that man. It seems like these issues have been going on for along time and your waiting on OCZ ? to fix it which seems unlikely unless there still working on the machine somehow . Maybe the new company will fix it or even Alienware  . i wish you luck my friend and hope you get it sorted.

well hopefully something gets done. i really am hoping for the new company to fix this(not really alienware's bios because they locked overclocking.)

i am looking at the sager and i can sell my notebook and get one basic settings. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9280-built-clevo-d900f-p-2577.html?wconfigure=yes i will miss the keyboard light and fingerprint. but i am not bugding unless it is going to use 2 gpu's. i can always upgrade the cpu when i am ready to. this will also have to kill the real 4870's(gddr5 if they come out.) which i don't think it will.(at a fanboy but just seeing some benchmarks that has been put up.)

edit: it isn't only with the qx9300. it is with all quad core

    yeah, let that go dadah...
as for your stuttering problem...quit using raid on a whitebook and just run a standard single drive configuration first.

and as far as it costing...most people have or can get most of the other parts them selves, (hard drives/memory/blu ray burner/cpu/etc.) so that bare bones would cost little to nothing extra. you get a single gpu but you also get an i7. (for the workstation enthusiast)

Yep great machine depending on your needs . Still a great gaming machine as well im just not a fan of the design :) But overall a solid all around package .

Sadly i may have to sell my machine in the coming days as ive been hit by some financial crud thats out of my control so notebooks may be a thing of the past for me if in fact this all happens :(. Was depending on some loot to come through that has not and the bills are a coming. Hopefully it doesnt come to this though as ive been enjoying my stay here but things are looking grim the past week or so .

yeah my last format i took off raid.(i have to update my sig.) but it is still there. i am going to do some more test to see what is the problem.(if i can fix it)

as for the sager. i really don't want to move unless there is going to be to gpu's which the picture from the other thread showed it didn't.

as for the benchmarks on xoticpc. i passed them by enough to say my crossfire is will hold up against the 280m single. (definatly not sli's) that is why i was wondering.

but having a corei7(real desktop not cpu designed) is really nice. i have to wait and see. (so many notebooks out right now. whitebook, w90, sager ????, finally a competion from ati vs nvidia is making everyone wonder what is there next setup at reasonable prices.)

dam quad. i hope everything is going to work for you.

Ill be letting it go for $2500.00 with the Qx9300 if i sell it, as ill need to move it rather quickly and for that price it should be gone fast. i really dont want to get rid of it lol because its an awesome machine.

Oh and thats a nice desktop your putting together . My i7 has been strong since day1 . I had actually considered getting rid of desktop first but its such a workhorse for me that theres no way i could just have a notebook only .

exactly. that's why im debating upgrading my desktop. i stay on it...while the 9262 be running benchmarks and encoding's...and if im on the lappy then it's the desktop doing it.

    $2500 is a nice price.

Ya if i wasnt doing encoding all the time and needed Terrabytes of storage lol i could totally live with just the W90 as really its more then enough for the average person . But i also dont want to hook up 4 external harddrives 20 other cables to it because to me that defeats the purpose of a notebook .

Well you can depend on my $100.00 because as soon as my machine is delivered I will be sending you a PM to do the BIOS flash and driver bull****.

    I don't know if 100 helps but I can remember when I could live on 100 for a while ; )

Dont feel bad, I just spent 2400 on my laptop and have been laid off for a month. The company I worked for gave me a bag of money to go away so I thought a new laptop was in order.

    Priorities.

    Im so sorry you guys have been hit by the economy crisis. I've beeing researching in NY for 10 years already and it sounds pessimist but be prepered for some really tough time. Its the New World Order agenda to slave the remaining humanity. Staring in the mid of this year, New Deseses expread through Vaccination, ethically bio engenered to target specific races, weather manipulation " HARP " to say natural disaster, hunger, wars, and civil unrest, in order to exterminate "useless eaters", 85 to 90% of the population " Georgia Stonehenge".     Judging from this pic from the 9280 site;

It looks like there is room for another gpu.

Hmm I dont like how the entire cooling unit is 1 piece, that means you have to break and reaseat your TIM for every unit each time if you just want to work on one :(

as for downing the looks, its not so much the looks, as I would prefer a since simple black square to a flashy neon orange with strobe lights like my G50V had. Its the aesthetics, its way to thick so I could not rest my wrists in the way I normally do and it would feel terribly akward for me, also the touchpad and stuff looks strange, and the numberpad is truncated worse than the w90 making in not usable.

then like I said in the past post, the price. That machine cost way more than the w90 and the only gain is going to be a faster cpu.

The more I look at the 9280 benches the worse they look, I have gotten nearly double on the High & Extreme score on every vantage run and they "cheated" with the Nvidia Physics.

don't i think so. and it's a workstation which can be used as a gaming machine
also..not allot of needt o be reseating the ram. once it and your cpu are set..that's all the heatsink removing you'll need to be doing. the other is separate (gpu is one unit in itself)

sorry, it's only 2 inches thick...

you'll have to wait for a true enthusiast to benchmark to know what it will really do...sooner or later..one will come forth. just like with the w90. it took a while, but some came forth in the end.. :)

Lol i went to look at the specs cause i didnt think it was that thick . its only because the photo they took had a mirror finish underneath it for the illusion it was thicker. 2 inches really isnt that bad for all the power that things packing including enough copper to build a new statue of liberty . there prices seem to be alot more competitive now as well. the whole 2 gpu thing is kind a bummer for people who were hoping it would have 2 that is.
