Im still rather curious about the 280mGTX true power though and there 50% claims . I mean if what you say is true or what you believe i should say about the CPU not having much true impact on Vantage then the scores they have posted thus far have not been exactly mind boggling and far from the claim of them being that much faster then your 9800s. I know none of the people thus far are the true enthusiasts yet, but some of those people are doing some hefty overclocking on the boards and its not exactly rocket science to get them to go faster. Whats your take so far ?.

 

i never said cpu...i have always said front side bus..
that's why i did the multiplier vs fsb test. and the multiplier barely moved the score while the fsb moved the score nearly 2000 gpu points (example=the test vicious ran)(the test i ran) (the test ichime ran) my gpu moved like 200 points where vicious moved 2000 points...that's a mighty big jump if ya ask me. even jamies jumped up 400 plus gpu points on a dual core.

it's just like a desktop..what do you over clock in it? the front side bus. even extreme cpu users over clock the front side bus.

 

2000? points all the test i ran on my W90 never gave me 2k more from FSB pumping . atleast not that i can remember . I mean at 2.8ghz on the dual core it was 10400 [email protected] it was 10800 or so . on my Quad it was around the same exact numbers be it 2.53 or 3.0ghz. Am i not understanding what your saying about the FSB ?. Something was clearly up with his test if he jumped 2k points . Well have to get him to run those tests again when he gets his machine back @2.0ghz vs the 2.7 . Also it could be that at 2.0ghz the GPUs were dead in the water for vantage but anything say over 2.4 is when they start breathing . Again would go back to the whole bottlenecking thing but it could be there is no highend bottlenecks like i was thinking or hoping but there could very well be some massive low end ones if what you say is true about a 2k jump.

when you look at your system while it's idling..what is the bus speed at?
does it stay locked at 266 or does it change?

 

cant look at my W90 atm. And yes i gained 400 points like jamie did but when i got my dualcore up to 3.6ghz the score didnt budge. Which was a 800mhz pump over stock. Meh i guess well find out soon enough when someone with a Qx9300 and a 5797 gets the CPU pumping up without using the multiplier if the scores change dramatically or not .

 

still doesn't knock that vicious score did. don't know what you did on yours, but he got his to move 1600 points. (i just looked back) different cpu. so in other wards his cpu/fsb made a bigger impact on scoring than yours.
i did a multiplier down clock and i only lost like almost 200 points

they are all influenced by fsb or multiplier over clock, but in most cases one is better than the other.
don't do anything and just over clock your gpu's to see what the score difference is.

whitebooks with a qx9300 can get 17k with a 3125 mhz over clock
but can only get 7800 on gpu in vantage, take that fsb pump off and it drops another 1k in points, but the whitebook is base off of both. but test we're ran back then to see which one influenced benchmarking more. and more of them elected to use front side bus. im thinking the reason why the whitebook cant get past the 9k maker is because of the 8x pcie...im thinking if it was a 16x pcie, then it would be in the 10k range where it should have been when it first came out.

just like you guys are getting 6300 to 6800 single gpu, but are having a time of it getting far past the 11k marker. like me..i can't even get past the 5800 on single gpu, but dual i can score 11k.... they all have their little draw backs somewhere along the line.

it's just my opinion on it all.. whether it fact or fiction..it's what i believe to be.

 

Those test were run more than once, and while I did a final run to post the scores I have had several "in between" runs of similar settings to test other things or just for personal testing. Everything was consistent every single time.

Plus I just didnt do one test here and one test there, I tested everything inbetween and then mapped it out seeing a very clean and predictable scale in performance based on my settings.

You guys should know I cant do any testing right now, my unit is out for RMA.

Im all tested out right now anyways, hours upon hours of Vantage...

The only testing I want to do when I get my new unit is see if I have any graphics issues and how high my gpu/ram/cpu will overclock incomparison with the old one.

The tests I ran actually disagrees with your assertion.

Based on a combination of my tests with Vicious' results and Quad's results, it's the clock frequency of the CPU that influences the GPU score for the ATi cards, and not solely because of the FSB pumping. FSB pumping and increasing the number of multipliers both increase the clock speed fo the CPU, which is why a W90 with a T9600 (non OC'd) gets around the same GPU score as a W90 with a Q9000 OC'd to 2.7-2.75ghz.

 

Well . . . got my laptop, just started it up to download some stuff off Haji net and screen goes black and it reboots (3x) now. Gave me an error about video drivers . . . ok so I will install the 9.4 drivers . . . oh wait, can't extract the RAR cause there is no program in the pc to do it and I cant download anything without it locking up . . . now just trying to reinstall the original drivers to see if it will work

Ok when flashing the second card, it says it flashed successfully, but the name in the winflash utility didnt change? How do I know if it flashed successfully?

It was jacked up before I did anything to it, that is why I decided to try the 9.4 drivers. Remember, tried downloading updates and my screen went black, restarted, when white after a bit, restarted gave me an video driver message . . .

Hey phycho I am in F'ING IRAQ on a POS REMOTE BASE OUT IN THE MIDDLE of the DESERT!!!! So maybe I can spend a bit of time trying to repair it instead of waiting another month+ sending it back, then having it sent out here. Scuba, I got it from Xotic and all that was done from home was iTunes was downloaded onto it (not installed) so I wouldnt have to do that here. Anyway, I think I have both cards flashed correctly, but the drivers are not installing correctly, going to attempt to reinstall them now.

 

I thought it was either Xotic or Gentech you bought it from. So much for pretesting, eh? BTW, I think we might be on the same FOB.

Mine did something like this but to a lesser degree, it would run 10, 20 minutes before black screening with no response to input but computer was still running. Since it would start up and work fine in safe mode and It wasnt showing anything in event manager to give me a lead on the problem I decided to re-install the OS and all was fine after the fact. Took the opportunity to switch to raid 0 since I need one drive letter to do a full backup at work. I did not gain anything noticeable in terms of performance but have little to base that on since I re-installed/converted early in to fix the black screen issue.

Thanks krab, well it seems to be working now, so I will install Fallout 3 while it downloads and give it a go. Main thing I want to do is image everything over to my Vertex so I can install that but had the trouble downloading. Maybe I will just do a fresh install onto the Vertex and not worry about it.

Lol, the main reason for getting this laptop is to play Fallout 3 (help pass the time out here). Love the Fallout series.

 

Fallout is a great series and i love the engine they ised in 3 especially with the flying bodyparts. they rip quite real dont they

guess you didn't notice that your over clocked 2.93 score and your stock 2.53 score are the same. how is that? (gpu 6500)



a white book doing 17.4 in 3dmark. a score only beat by one w90. sure, the 3.0 score is rather normal, but that cpu seems to be running stable at 3.6 ghz...






now lets take a look at someone with experience in over clocking using both fsb and multiplier over clocking

But, CPU stays about the same regardless of the BIOS. This score is @ 11.5 BIOS multiplier, and a slight FSB pump.



Then, this is me OC'ing the CPU @ 3.3GHz plus FSB pump.. and a slight OC on the GPUs.


And this is just 3.3GHz and FSB pump - no GPU OC


now in your case, like i said the first time, the whitebook was a combination of both. and like i also stated. it's just my opinion. and since i can't do it on a np9262, it's going to stay my opinion. end of story.


don't get me wrong, but have you even broke 16.3k yet (3dmark06)?
or even broke 7k vantage mark gpu? has nothing to do with . .err ummm.. e-peeing, but whether or not you really pushed you whitebook to the limits.

and vicious already proved my point about fsb working..if it didn't work on your system...that's fine for you, but it sure worked on his. considering he cant multiplier over clock up to 2.7. which has been my main underling point since the very beginning. the only unlock cpu's are extremes and they seem to be locked in laptops. so the way around it is fsb pump. last time i checked, you didn't multiplier over clock your cpu to 3.5 from 2.5 now did you? that's because you cant!

if i get it with the T9550 (2.66GHz) as i found it with on uk, how much can it be overclocked with this turbo button?

does the ddr2 ram (even though 6gb) has effects on performance in comparison to ddr3 one? how much score do you get on vista for this?
