Buy both.... bwaa ha ha ha![]()

Id say the W90 would be your best bet over all for what your looking to do, as it will be good for both. That new D900 is nice and it will be pretty fast in gaming but its still never going to be as fast as the W90 when the game can take advantage of both GPUs(which these days is like 98% of the time) because as we all know the CPU while helping doesnt play the major role in gaming and its more the GPUs. As far as looks go id say the W90 destroys the clevo but thats more personal preference. If you have to go Nvidia then you can always take a look at the M98nu coming out in a month or 2 which will have 2x280mgtx(rebranded 9800gtxm) and the same form factor 18.4 inch screen but it might be priced abit higher then the W90 or quite abit higher when loaded up but no one knows for sure till some US pricing gets put out there.

striker - great news about the ram, how much extra did that cost? like 400-600? sheeesh. you are going to have the beefiest a1 ever... also, since ken installed it on an a1, does that mean gentech got their shipment? -
-
This is the one .
http://www.eurocom.com/products/future/specselectfuture.cfm?model_id=204
Its hard to say on the pricing because if you look at the new clevo D900f it starts at 2200 bucks now since nvidia is selling there cards so much cheaper now thanks to ATI and some real competition . Regardless i doubt there going to be able to sell a machine with 2 gpus and a Q9000(which easily clocks to 2.7ghz btw) for 2400 bucks . i just dont see it happening . i have been wrong before as well but on this one i doubt i am . -
-
Lol we need some more ken videos of him playing music to the laptop and putting in the ram lmao, really sets the mood. Ken is a great guy and has an awesome sense of humor. -
-

Well looks that I'm gonna join the "W90 Team" but i have a question first, all the problems with the W90 are already resolved?... I live in brazil and sending it to RMA is expensive and give a lot of headache lol. -
The soothing video melodies by none other then ken from gentech .

No service centers in brazil and sending a behemoth like W90 via fedex gonna be really expensive.
Anyway... I think I'm sold :x -

We better stay on topic or some people may get abit grumpy -
Actually guys eurocom posted some preliminary pricing which they later pulled and the upcoming uber clevo was no small ching. I ran the price up to 5k by putting a check in most of the boxes. They are usually more spendy than sager and the usual suspects but... Looking back over time when sager has had similar models (top notch, dual cards or best current card) that were enjoying their day in the sunshine as the top dogs on the market the pricing was what you might call premium. I will be surprised if you can get one with the options must of us would check off for much less than 3k and feel confident that you will be able to drive the price over 4 if your feeling frisky. Of course part of that confidence comes from knowing I'll be gone in a few weeks to a place where there is no internet and by the time I get back no one will remember it if i blew it anyways. lol

On a completely different note, does anyone else have issues with the screen? I like the size but the colors seem washed out.
The viewing angles are very narrow. If the tilt isn't exactly right, the picture quality changes drastically.
Frankly, I'm not all that impressed with it. The picture quality really isn't any better than my 3-1/2 year old XPS2.
It's adequate but I really was expecting excellence. -
. Anyway I'm not going to worry about a thing that probably will not happen
(i expect
)
. You guys win i gonna order from gentech lol.
Is pretty nice how the customer service in EUA is more... "personal"... In brazil customer service generally is only a dream lol. -
The first machine i had was somewhat more limited in the viewing angles and was the samsung screen but the second was a Chi Mei and much brighter with better viewing angles . Only difference between the two was the Chi mei had a bit more washout from the bottom but was easily fixed by adjusting the gamma which doesnt affect the brightness but fixed the washout almost completely . When Mugenski picked it up today he seemed pretty happy with the screen and to me thats always the first thing you notice before anything else. So check your screen model under Monitors and device id .
Everytime ive ever bought a laptop it seems over the past 12 years theres usually 2 or 3 manufactures that make panels for any given laptop so its always a crapshoot which one you actually get . I had 3 different XPS's over the years as well and My Gen2 and 1710 both had LGs while others got stuck with samsungs or hitachi i believe . some were happy some were not. -
ken is great, he has kept me updated on everything that is going on, and answered all my questions promptly - i don't think i have ever waited more than a half a day to get a response. -
I had a ~ $2200 clevo a long time ago with 17" screen that had a light spot on it almost like a hole punch hole. I returned it to the vendor and they shipped it back with a replacement screen that had what looked like dust or some sort of graininess on it, and it was also a lower quality display... over all it was a far worse screen to look at than the 'hole punch' hole screen which looked great other than the one light spot.
I probably had a nice LG screen with the 'hole' mfg defect and it looked like they replaced it with an inferior model screen, and additionally may not have kept the screen dust free during the replacement. I had a hard time getting them to take it back but the reseller went to bat for me and I got a full refund in the end.
This was several years ago and was not an W90 or even an asus but I thought I'd relate the experience since the topic of panel types came up.
In my opinion, "panel lotteries" really suck. I think every component, especially every major component, in expensive electronics should be specified by part model/mfg in ordering.
A tip vs backlight bleeding is to turn the brightness down a bit. Most LCD's I see out of box have the brightness setting way overblown. Turning it down can reduce the light 'flare' on the edges of the screen, but it won't fix a more serious mfg defective type of backlight bleed that some panels suffer. This doesn't help with dim edges from viewing angles though, which is a tradeoff/limitation on TN panels. For that you have to try to keep the screen angled 'point blank' directly in line with your eyes. A laptop stand or stand-style laptop cooler might help in this regard. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
asus is the secret manufacturer for particles of many well known brands out there. guess what they would do for their own top class notebook.
as long as i wait for stock can somebody give a nice, detailed, pictured guide how to overclock qx9300 on asus w90 using setfsb? -
Speaking of screens I had my old lappy out this morning to look for some data that I had forgotten to transfer. You would be surprised how fast you get used to more screen real estate. I can say that I dont want to go back to 17" again. Ever.
-
Your also going to want to flash the slave card to a master bios so you can run the latest ATI drivers . This process is very easy to handle but just take it slow . Theres many benefits of running the latest drivers so this is a must do if your into gaming at all .

My opinion on the screen (Chi Mei) is good, the angles seem fine. Looking vertically down isn't so hot but from side to side its fine. The bigger issue to me is the gloss screen coming from a matte 20.1' desktop however im getting use to it. Colours seem fine as well but I do know quad fooled around with teh seting a bit before i got there, i haven't bothered to test thim out myself as he seems to have found a pretty good balance where it is now. If your not satisfied with the screen just play with the gamma like quad said and turn the brightness down a bit, i find 3 notches on the top media bar sufficient.
Only thing that bothers me is that the button to turn the touchpad off doesnt work but the mute button beside it works fine. Might need to reinstall the driver for the media bar.
Anyone have a similar problem after uninstalling the software for the volume slider (magically it still works -.-) that anytime i adjust it in game or bump it, windows decides to throw my task bar up and refuses to go away -
When you uninstalled the touch media software the process itself might still be there . Its one of those ATK processes .Id kill one of those at a time till you find it if what your trying to do is get rid of all that touch media junk.
As for the Chi mei ya looking down at it vertically makes the screen seem whiteish but i didnt really see that being an issue because i figured how often do you need to be at that angle anyhow. Most laptops have sweet spots for there screens but some of those sweet spots are much larger depending on the panel . The samsung had a super small sweet spot as where that panel seems to be abit more forgiving . I did adjust the colors and gamma and you can toy around with one of the sliders called Avivo color/its ATIs version of Nvidias digital vibrance. I like very rich colors so i usually crank mine up pretty high.
-
Ah there we go, yeah i uninstalled it but it didn't seem to totally get rid of it although killing the process works fine. And yeah, ill never be viewing this laptop from any higher then about 20 degrees so its all good
-
Ok so i was going to post here asking about this but i found a reply from vicious in another thread stating that his drive wasn't lightscribe capable either despite the software being installed. I guess that's more junk that can go. Just a heads up to any other bloatware removing fiends
-
Im still waiting on mime....Darn USPS!!!!
-
LOL!!! usps does take thier damn time...
as for bloat ware i freaking hate it is there anyway i could get one of you present owners out there to post a list of bloatware that your W90 came with so i can be ahead of the curve when it comes time to downsize the bloat? (its the first thing i do to AnY new computer and i have had a few ^_~) -
WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM TOTALLY DOIN IT!!!!!!!!!!! -
i will keep in contact with you later on to get te specifics on the sticks so i get the right ones(i ordered the wrong ones a couple of time... i felt DUMB as a rock...) -

Ah, I didn't know he was running the blue ray drive but i checked regardless before uninstalling and got the same "no compatible drive found" message. I guess asus was just trying to be proactive in case they decided to use light scribe drives. Seriously though ive never met anyone who takes time to label with light scribe, good old sharpie has always worked for me.
Is the stock Blue ray drive in the A1 a writer or reader only? -
