LOL!!! YOU MUST B CRAZY!!! what? WAIT. YOU HAVE HAD 4!?!?!? what happened to them?

seriously though...i would be more concerned about the laptop working than voiding the warranty. before you go modding any new computer you always make sure the computer works first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this should be a given and not have to be mentioned 50 times a day.
and last time i checked...not allot of cpus causing damage to a laptops, but more so the user installing it wrong. bending pins/getting the paste on the pins or socket. if you do this, then you deserve not to get your unit refunded! so take care in doing so. there are always going to be ways around a system and not everyone is 100 percent legit in here!!! i m sure if you ran a red light or a stop sign, your not about to go turn your self in for it!!
so with this in mind. if your going to customize your laptop, be sure to take all the necessary precautions first!!! before alliterating anything. make sure it works!!! and you can always put all your parts back then ship it off.
and the flip side
this covers those that have bought brand new machines that came back with fingerprints and smudge marks in places where a brand new machine should never have any.
and if need be, buy an extended warranty through someone else, since you can do this now a days, to cover your product.
pay the premium and get the machine built right the first time and quit cutting corners! and that way...you never have to worry about the warranty.
(personal opinion is all) -
Striker that's mighty nice of you. This will help quad with his W90 withdrawal.
-
Well thanks for all the kind words and ill try to help as much as humanly possible on my end without actually having the machine in hand. When i brought up the fact i had to sell it Mugenski messaged me and said he might be interested so when i decided i had to let it go i told him and the next morning he was at my door . Im glad that the whole process was smooth and painless for both of us other then him having to travel god knows how far out of canada to come and get it. Im sure it was worth it though

Striker
Have you heard of any "official" problems from any sources about the W90's
I've been checking from time on the net to see if these problems we've seen on the forum are widespread. -
-
Yes Striker can be a bit cryptic at times so its best to just read between the lines
. One way or the other if you got a W90 and have issues your covered, so who ever owns one and is concerned there machine may take a crap on them dont worry . Asus has you covered period. I put there warranty to the test already and it passed with flying colors . These people handling this stuff are top notch.
-
Yep thats the honorable thing to do even if you cant disclose all the particulars . If i had a machine with GPU issues i would do just what Striker is suggesting and just wait a few more weeks till the new batchs have shipped and then call it in. Most of the issues are not where people cant use there machines but just anomalies that they can live with for the time being till they know Asus has a handle on things. Then i wouldnt hesitate to ship the machine out for even the slightest issue, After all thats why you have a warranty and your machine should be as close to perfect as it can get.

Well the good news in all this is i can pay some bills now which were becoming overdue sadly and if Striker hits the lottery he said he'd buy me a W90 so its a win win for me
/Prays for striker winning the lottery

but you have to wait for stock coming to receive your prize. hehe
-=$tR|k3r=- how did you install 8gb ? i think 3 identical rams of 2gb are better in performance -
Well im sure the W90 will be instock long before Striker wins the lottery , but hey stranger things have happened .
-
That's cool news!
Now only if we could put DDR3 in it too...(Yeah I know that's not happening).
Any word on possible DDR2 1066MHz ever seeing the light of day? -
Well thats awesome news man and it looks like money well spent already . No more pagefile ever
, Or atleast till games require more then 11 gigs of ram, need to leave a gig for the OS after all
.
-
So now when people say "why the heck do you have 12 gigs of ram" you say "because i can
" ..
-
Wow i noticed ken used to do custom paint jobs on laptops . Might be something else youll have to inquire about .
Get the full harley theme goin on that bad boy VRoom Vroom

I have a question that is probably stupid (well I'm more a desktop guy
) but i saw some vantage scores of the W90 and i noticed that the cpu score is pretty low (even a A64 x2 get a MUCH better score), is this a bug or something or the mobile processors are that much weaker? .
-
well, seeing as G.Skill has a 16gb kit compatible with the X38 chipset on the desktop side of things, this comes as not much of a surprise, yet it's a much welcomed development.
-
-
). I like the D900F but Christ this thing is UGLY and i plus i never had problems with asus in my desktops
.
-
Well first off what are you going to be doing with the machine ? i think thats the best question to be asked right now . If its purely gaming then the W90 will have you covered in spades. If its hardcore encoding then go for the D900 and i7 . Thats not to say the W90 and a Qx9300 cant do it , infact it will do it quite well , but no where near what an i7 could ( afterall i own that CPU and just had a W90) . As for the 1k Qx9300 you dont have to pay that amount , you can find them on ebay OEMs for 600-700 bucks and toss that bad boy in yourself.

Id go for the W90 for sure unless encoding was my only goal, and for that I would build a cheap micro atx shuttle box or something for less than a D900F.
The W90 obviously looks much better and is designed nicer, and it comes with much more at the stock price/setup.
I am a video encoder myself but still would prefer the w90 its a bit cheaper and style is important to me, but also I feel it would be a waist to buy this big high end laptop and a powerfull cpu that cant do gaming on par with the W90.
I guess really I would rather be able to game on the go than encode faster on the go, as I can leave the W90 doing an encode job for awhile and if it takes longer it takes longer. I'll go do something else or let it run in the background. However in a game if your hardware is not good enough or your fps is too low, you cant just wait it out, you cant play the game or you have to turn down the settings, so the compromise is more severe.
