You are telling me. Here in Afghanistan we are getting the armys version of the HUMVEE with the powered turret and doors. Now we advanced. Yeah right i rather take a 7 ton than a humvee -
As for the screen and keyboard sammich - Theres rubber pads around the edges of the screen that put a sizeable gap between the keys and screen, i havent had any issues yet with the screen flexing during transit and making contact, then again i baby this beast when i take it around
Also a question for anyone who uses the backpack, which way do you put the w90 in? Screen facing your back or facing out towards the hardcover? I cant decide which way I should be putting it in. I have always got in the habit with any electronics to put them screen side in when there in my pocket to avoid bumping the screen against stuff, but with the w90 if i put it screen side out it faces the power adapter compartment. And screen facing my back leaves the laptop laying on the screen when you lay the backpack down... -
I had a lappy screen broken by someone throwing their carry on on top of mine up in the upper compartment. My unskilled forensic exam determined that the power supply was driven into the upper lid of the laptop. At least it appeared that way since a nearly perfect outline of about half the supply amounted to one side of the break, the other half being irregular. Since then I have carried the power supply in my carry on as well as other items like the usb floppy, external drive, etc. This is the only major injury I have sustained in a lot of travelling and it was a fluky deal but its something to think about.
I carried my last one screen out since that side has much heavier padding in my booc carrying case. The backpack I had before I carried screen in because the padding was about equal. Haven't looked at the new backpack but if padding is equal I will carry screen in the power supply will in any event be in the carry on. -
So I take it we have a bunch of people on the forum waiting for their W90's to be delivered with this next shipment on the 20th?
Someone posted Asus was fixing all the issues with the next shipment...
Do we have a checklist of things to check for RMA right out of the box?
Thanks -
More then anything just video card issues of any kind . So when you get it download 3d06 , vantage and load up some of your favorite games and put it to the test.
-
Here is my vantage link -- what is wrong with my w90?
Asus says its fine.
Are these normal scores?
http://service.futuremark.com/home.action?resultId=1052011&resultType=19
and during the test the frames highest were 32.. mostly staying around 16-19 -
Your machine looks like its running on one card by those numbers.
Do you have 2 in the device manager ? In your ATI control panel do you have catalyst AI set to standard, advanced or checked off disabled ?. it should be set to standard for best performance. -
in Device manager is says -
Ati mobility radeon HD 4870x2
The AI was set to Advanced,, and I changed it to standard.
Should i check the BIOS again to see if it changed to one card enabled again?
In the bios,, it says under power options
disable one display card {enable} or Disable? this is the change the tech rep said to enable today.
Did i disable a card or enable one? lol.... Im so confused. Either way performance was not effected with the change I made. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Sounds like one card is turned off then maybe now the drivers need to be installed on the 2nd one again.
Its maybe a bit easier to see from the windows device manager than the ATI CCC.
You will see two entries under Display Adapters if both cards are showing up in Windows. -
Try switching it to disable. Then go and check in device manager.
-
very nice kit wish i could afford
-
@RMPG505 again
In the bios when it asked to disable one card it should have been on disabled. Its almost a trick question the way it asks you . 2 times when i had done the whole enable/disable card thing(for some benchmarking) then went back into my O.S, while windows did recognize the cards were both there my benchmark did not change till i had reimaged my O.S. So, You may have to do this and start from scratch like an F9 install at boot. What you can do if you havent is , First download Seagate Disc Wizard , install this , then back up your C: drive and put the backup on your spare partition(if your World Of Warcraft directory was installed to your C:/program files just cut and paste the folder to D:/ as this will run from anywhere and does not need to be installed everytime and can even run after you reinstall the O.S youll probably have to reinstall Directx though after the fresh install before running the game again) . from this point do that F9 install(tap F9 right when you power on the computer) (make sure the card say's disabled in the bios read above again ) after its done doing its thing with the install, just reinstall Vantage and let it run again(make sure you run you turbo gear as well at 15% or make sure your power profile is set to Asus Overclock Mode)hopefully after doing all this your numbers are what you would expect them to be and problem is solved . this may sound like a bit of work but it may be the only way to truly solve your problem. In the W90 review from NBR themselves the guy who did the review also ran into this problem and only later did i also run into this problem with the 2 cards showing but the perfomance was still single card till i redid my O.S. If none of this fixed your performance then id be shipping the machine back . Well good luck and i hope i made this coherent enough for the average Joe or Jane. -

I guess I was lucky, I was able to turn my card off and on in bios with no ill effects.
I would myself try a few things like disabling and reenableing the card in the device manager to see if you can "reset" it before doing the entire restore process. -
i tried it before as well and it worked like we talked about, then later on it did not till had re ran my backup . it showed up in windows but my crysis/vantage benchmarks were all cut in half and believe you me i tried over and over before i ran the backup again. I also tried unplugging, removing the battery and any other magic trick you can think of but to no avail till i ran that image again. So i learned my lesson and just before doing any single card runs i just made a backup then did my testing and then restored it .

Quick question:
I usually just use my pc for web browsing and gaming and Ive seen these posts about upgrading to 12GB of ram. What kind of gains would that make? Would it decrease loading times in games even more so that 6GB? Also can anyone convince me to get the QX9300 as opposed to keeping the Q9000? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
No...
Want faster load time, get a faster drive, SSD is the best you can get right now.
Want a reason to get a QX9300, nobody can give you one but encoding is about the only reason i can think of, in gaming an overclocked Q9000 is sufficient. For the cost the QX9300 just is not worth the gains for the average person. -
Would you guys buy an engineering sample QX9300 if the price was right? Say less than $500.00?
I talked to a buddy of mine who used to work for AMD and he told me engineering samples are generally good for overclocking because they are factory unlocked.
-
If your going to buy an Qx9300 that is not OEM then look for QS(qualification sample) . As for them being unlocked, the Qx9300 already has an unlocked multiplier as do all X processors as there meant to be overclocked , problem is that the W90 does not have multiplier settings in the bios to let you overclock so you are forced to do everything through software . Youll have to decide if the 300 mhz and 12megs of cache is worth the 500 difference over the factory Q9000. Q9000 should run stable at 2.7ghz, the Qx9300 should run stable around 3ghz . Thats the basic jest of it .
-
Surely you jest.

Ran the install of the drivers Asus told me to use ( from DNA- do not argue) site
its the win7 64 9,4 drivers......... the rep swore to me that this would do the trick --
Ok, now my device manager doesnt recognize I have 4870sx2.. Just a 4870 and no drivers were able to install... So imagine what my screen looks like as I write to you now :/
omg,, this is a freaking nightmare. -
I should have just tried the package from vicious in the first place. ;=( I am deep in the butts of Asus right now and will continue to let them know they are retarded.,, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
ok, maybe thats a bit harsh -
and Striker, that video is great even the second and third time round bahahaha.

Just got done trying WoW on my desktop with the 9.4 and it ran fine. 60fps everywhere I went with only the dips from things loading.
I did read up on some driver issues with WoW and ATI, its possible the old drivers included with the W90 are included in that driver issue.
I would try out the 9.4 RMPG505 see if it works for you. -
Are you doing WOW linch king. The graphic are much more demanding that the original. Did you try it on your a1 if you have how did it compare. -
For $750.00 and without all the driver issues this Gateway looks pretty good right now.

DDR3 instead of DDR2 and it has a 1Gig video instead of 512, if it supports RAID 0 I think I am going to save $1700 and get this instead of a W90. Lets face it the framrates on games will be pretty close. -

Upon reading the forum for this laptop, I think Ill spend the extra cash...
Plagued with major issues and runs hot as hell.
HEAT=BAD

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
you mean the cheap laptop has these issues not the w90 right?for asus you spend more you get more. for alienware you spend more you dont get more. for other laptops like this one you said you pay less you get less.
-
Striker
That's going to one sweet laptop when you get it!! I can't think of anything else you could want except maybe some kind of tuner. Outstanding! -
I am just a little gunshy because I have never spent this much on a laptop in my life.
Ill only do it this one time.....

I have a favor to ask one of you -- please post your device manager and display adapters so I can see what it should look like on a running w90vp....
I have sent mine back in AGAIN. The rep said he feels i have a bad controller ? And that it does not recognize 2 video cards.
Why didnt they know this when it was sent in the first time. I also sent a link to him with my vantage score and took photos of my device manager etc...
Any screen shot is appreciated.. Once again, i am without a machine. This has been unbelievable.
thank you to everyone for your support and encouragment through this ordeal.
ps.. when trying those 9.4 drivers,, I still got 13 -18 fps in Wow ( WotLK) occasional 58 fps in Ironforge ( old world junk) -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
http://www.avermedia.eu/avertv/UK/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=289
Avermedia has just perfect drivers support (even for x64 systems) and very often updated. has everything from digital and analog tv to digital and analog radio, tv in, s-video input and recording of all these. I strongy recommend it. i never had a problem. i cant imagine how it will look like on a 18.4 inch screen hd and these graphics specifications
go for it! this is essential for Ken too
you will put it in express slot right which is 54mm?
note you dont have to buy it with remote control as the one that comes with asus should work as my hp one did! nice eh! -
-
Those 9.4s from Win7 never worked in Vista64 just the CCC did . No clue where they even got the idea to use those. -
I used to think the same thing but then I keep viewing all these reports like the following:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/memory-module-upgrade,2264-3.html
3/6/12 its all the same unless you are using a couple GIG for a VM it is a waste of money. I would bet dual SSD in RAID 0 would be a much better use of cash.
-
Has anyone installed dual SSD drives in RAID 0 on a W90?
-
. Its great how you go from saving 1700 to wanting Dual SSDs lol.
