So, I'm still experiencing a problem I wrote about a few posts back.

My system and Sleep Mode don't play nice at all. Stryker and I both figured it would be fixed in the new BIOS, but I'm still experiencing an issue.

Sometimes I try to bring the system out of sleep, and it doesn't do anything. The media keys light up, power light comes on. But no HD activity, no fans running, no nothing.

I hard reset, power back on. First thing I notice is BIOS has reset itself. Asks me to try and recover the settings or just load Defaults. I load the defaults.

Windows booting screen shows up for half a second. Next half of a second is a blue screen. Then half a second after that, I'm rebooting.

Only way I can get back into my system after this issue is to take out the battery and unplug the PSU.

Ideas? I'm stumped on this one.

So it works on RC 7100 too? Just a page or so back it was said you need 7127... gah so much bad info out now we need to consolidate it and weed out the bad.

So basically you just need the 9.5 Win 7 CCC to make it work it seems like, and the master/master bios so that the cards can read as normal crossfire.

Id see if in the bios there are options to toggle off some of the advanced sleep states.

Well you sound like you want it, so I would go for it. I love my W90 its been my best notebook purchase so far and the only two laptops currently that can even get close to competing cost a lot more, so its a good deal even though it is expensive.

    1. You must have Master\Master setup!
    2. Install Windows 7
    3. Install Ati mobility 9.5 driver from setup.exe and do not use the have disk way! Drivers
    4. Reboot!
    5. After you reboot go into CCC and you will see Crossfire is an options now. Make sure its enabled. Even though it says it enable GPUID says it not, i'll get to that later.
    6. Delete the C:\ati folder.
    7. In the tools you got for flashing your gpus there was a 9.4 ati driver. Run the setup so that it extracts to c:\ati. Cancel it after it extracts the files (Dont install !!!!).
    8. Mod the drivers with the attached driver below.
    9. Now go into device manager and use the have disk method. Point it to the ati folder that you modded.

Yeah I am going to test, but I will test my theory first. I already have 9.4 and Win 7 7100 RC installed.

So I am just going to do an addvanced CCC only install for the 9.5's and see if it works. I cant see what would be happening otherwise.

I may be able to re-distrubute the new guide with the 9.5 CCC, the 9.4 Drivers and the modified .inf files already all extracted and you can just install it like normal all in one go if I am lucky and the installer uses the same file names for the files (or just rename them should work)

Update on my w90vp-x2 --- I just got my replacement unit yesterday. This one is showing 2 cards in device manager, not one like the other one :)

It's running well,, getting 60fps at full settings flying around Northrend. I can say that the colors seems washed out a bit compared to my G1s, but it's a beautiful screen anyway.

Now , the real test comes tonight in 25 man Ulduar with all the AOE and textures in there.

The vga drivers are the same dated 2/17/09 that were in the first x2, I got. This one shipped with the Windows 7 offer to upgrade inside it for "qualifying customers", which I am not.

Will there ever be a driver update for the 4870's that is as simple as an .exe file?

Well i got my W90 with dual 4870's, 6gb ram, 3.06ghz processor 320gb HDD (dont need more internal space, got the external) Blu-ray and 2 year pretty much no questions asked warranty for less than $2600. extra $900 for a minor boost in performance can go toward half of my mortgage.

The new mazda 6 looks nice too, and so does the new lincoln mkz... but its whats under the hood that counts... my W90 is a sleeper. ;)

Meh... configured an m17x with specs close as possible to W90Vp-X2. For $3000, you get marginally better GPUs, smaller screen and speakers, only one-year parts/labor warranty and candy-wrapper design. Also no backpack or free mouse.

Oh wait, but you get a free "personalized name plate". pfff...

lol. i built a m17x, and it was around 4k..

so yeah, 3k for a slightly better lappy than the w90... or 4k for a lot better lappy than the w90.. hmm. i'd rather save and invest the 1.6k and invest it in my next laptop.

oh yeah, that's sort of the problem WITH the m17x, it looks like a frigging car. i guess if your into cosmetics, and stuff, but there was this guy who posted in the AW forum about having to RMA his AW lappy 2-3 times just because of the lights going out...

on a brighter note, my lappy was sent out yesterday!! wahoo, ETA the 5th.

PsychoX you might be interested in this kind of project with the xbox360... there might be a few people that have done similar projects if you google around. I believe the guy might accept custom orders too.

    http://benheck.com/Games/Xbox360/x360_page_5.htm

On the competition topic, I also priced out the sager and dell models and the price is no comparison to the W90vp.. add practically $1000 to base W90vp setup pretty much with warranty, screen/rez, ram, dual gpu etc all selected appropriately. Then you have to consider that its mobile nvidia cards with their failure history and nvidia's apparent use of bad solder.

    Scheduled Delivery: 06/05/2009

question: does it really take 5 days to ship from California to the midwest? i've had stuff shipped from HK that takes around that long...

only reason i ask is because the nearest UPS is around 15-20 miles away, and just wanna make sure i'm home when they deliver...

Easy to say now that your laptop is on its way, I was told next shipment is June 9, that the June 2 shipment was delayed so my faith in Asus has been shaken. I have several other Asus products and i am happy with them but IMO this has been cluster _ _ _ _ from the start. I am starting to Look for another replacement and to be honest I would spend an extra 1.6 K if that meant I would receive service and not a could receive on this date or that date. All this does is put the supplier in a bad position having to refund for a Prepaid laptop and explain for them (Asus) why that cant deliver. Yes, they have the best warranty in the market, and the W90 is the best bag for the buck at least we hope so if the problems still remain then well it wont be if you have to RMA again, But I would not know that because I don't have a MY W90. There is no defending this type of business from Asus so please don't try. If it were not for Ken at Gentech this order would have been canceled long ago.

    I am done ranting.

I understand you preordered and all.. and I don't mean to be dismissive of your valid complaints. However if you are waiting on your initial order rather than an RMA.. you could always cancel, get the x2 from newegg and keep eye on slickdeals and hardforum 's hot deals section for deals on notebook hdd's and notebook blurray optical drives. There was just a 500gb 7200rpm 2.5" dell hdd deal for like $87 (dead deal now) for example. If you could find a slim BD drive on sale at some point. It would come out to be almost the same cost as the x1, but with a slightly larger hard drive even. The only thing missing perhaps is the 30 day dead pixel guarantee you can buy from some other resellers, and any minor difference in overall price and the fact that you have to do some labor yourself might be counterbalanced by the fact that they are in stock and would most likely get to your door very fast if anything like newegg's regular shipping history.

I know at least one person who contributes to the convo in this thread has done this.

The "Zero Bright Dot"/dead pixel warranty applies with Asus purchases from Newegg as well.

I purchased my X2 from Newegg and did my own upgrades and the price was actually cheaper than if i were to have bought the A1 outright. (bought a 3.06ghz C2D to replace the quad cuz i wanted better fps and it was less than 1/3 of the price of the qx9300) Plus i got mine in 3 days. I RMA'ed because it was one of the first batch (march 09 I think) and was having the gray line issue as well as a little distortion in the display. My replacement was shipped less than a week later, Brand new from Asus and with a build date of april. Of course the upgrades came after i received the replacement, which has been stellar since it arrived.

I ordered mine from Newegg on Sunday and got it today(Tues) in the morning from UPS..
I'm clearing out the garbage from it as we speak and downloading 3dmark06 to test out. I already boosted the C2Q 2ghz to 2.6ghz, just waiting to test it on 3dmark. I'm thinking I may buy that 3.06ghz processor that intel just released.. or the one that Orion uses from the mac world.

yeah got it earlier today but was way too busy with the kids and stuff to even touch it. Im finally at work now, just took the stickers off and booted it up for the first time.

Im having trouble getting my old image on the new machine, seems my bootable usb I made for Acronis is not booting, so I just got done downloading the demo of it and making a new boot key.

Hopefully I'll be back in business here soon, right now I am in stock config and hate it, I also forgot to bring the usb dongle for my G7 mouse so I am stuck with the touch pad.

    I just ran 3dMark 06 and got 11294..

My frame rate drops very badly in battlegrounds and Dalaran. Sometimes to single digits which makes it unplayable in the battlegrounds, so forget about 25 man raids. This is all at lower resolution of 1680x1080 and all settings lowered to min or almost min for distance /textures etc.. Shadows on low.

It looks pretty flying around or doing basic quest things, but real game play is nothing like how my G1s can perform.

What are my options at this point ?

Device Manager does show I have 2 cards on this w90 :)
No matter how I change settings in CCC it makes no remarkable difference.

I opened a thread on WoW tech support site also. My worst fears are I bought a laptop that cannot play the single game I bought it for in first place.

Im guessing you did not take up Vicious' guide to flashing the cards, and dropping Cat 9.4 on there? This will make a significant difference over the stock drivers.

Also, what are your processor clock settings? Are you using turbogear? Setfsb? What processes are running in the background? do you have automatic updates set to run immediately? Alot of factors to think about... I am running Crysis at native res on High and do not drop to single digits... and was at your 1680x1050 on High with the q9000 and still no single digits. WoW is less costly than crysis so im thinking something is hogging your resources.

I just ran 3dmark06 a couple hours after opening the box, all I did was mess around cleaning up windows, then used the clockgen, set it to 3.66ghz and voila 14.6k in 3dmark06. running real well so far!

Im good finally got it going about 5 min ago, after trying all my options multiple times I found for some reason the rescue media builder does not like to write the MBR to the USB like it should, so I found an image online that I restored to my flash drive, then made the rescue media and now its working.

I think the HP boot tool would have worked too.

First time using the new Home 2009 interface and while its supposed to be better than the old one I dont like it, and I think I did the wrong restore lol, I chose my original file and figured I had to pick my incrimental update after, but should have picked the incremental first and it would have done the core first update with it, so may have to restore twice, and I should have merged the split partitions on the HDD's before restoring too.

My desktop has a 4.65ghz c2d E8600 with 8gigs of memory and a 4870X2 card, it runs EQ2 lovely with catalyst AI turned OFF.. With it on (default) it will run nearly single digits. Cat AI off doesnt turn off crossfire, just changes the method of rendering with 2 cards. I suspect WoW will run the same way.
Try it, turn off Catalyst AI and see how Wow runs.

I placed my order on 5/8 and prepaid, so you should not comment or assume unless you know the facts. You mean 4/26 as that would be you only waited 8 days if you ordered 5/26. LOL

RMPG505 - - I'm following along with your WoW performance posts as well as other people's various scores and gaming fps posts in general. I was planning on playing WoW on the W90 along with some other games like TF2 and some other shooters, and also letting my gf play WoW on it when I'm not using it.

You mentioned gaming at 1680x1050 - I am definitely not planning on running any game below the 1920x1080 native rez of the LCD. Non-native resolutions look muddy on LCDs for gaming.. they don't scale while maintaining a sharp and saturated image like crts can. If I wanted to play at that rez I would want to buy a laptop with the lcd that native resolution. The W90vp should be able to play most games with moderately high fps at 1920x1200. I can play WoW at good framerates on a single 4870 desktop card at 1920x1200, it even has ok framerates at 1920x1200 using a single 9600gt with the details all cranked up -- definitely not single digits even at "busy" parts. Even crysis, the crappiest framerate game there is gets 41 fps in 4870 crossfired 1920x1200 resolution (crossfired desktop cards) *without* AA turned on, according to benchmarks/reviews. Company of Heroes gets 77fps at 1920x1200 with 8xAA 16AF on 4870 crossfired desktop cards. COD4 gets 69.1 fps with a single 4870 desktop card and crossfired it gets 89.4 fps (1920x1200, 4x AA/16xAF). I usually don't use AA/AF on higher resolutions like 1920x1080 or x1200 so my FPS would be even higher.

Single digits is some kind of problem. Try turning that Catalyst AI off like Spires just mentioned. As others mentioned you might not be getting the benefit of crossfire on your W90 somehow. From what everyone else has been posting all along it might be related to the glitchy drivers and crossfire implementation. Like the last few posts said, a few people have guides up on how to flash the cards and have posted some modified drivers and such that might help if you haven't already done it.

Here are some suggestions for things to try with WoW itself if that doesn't work:
    --------------------------------------------------

I would delete your wdb and W-Tee-F (lol the cuss blocker won't let me type it) folders in your warcraft folder (back them up first), in order get a clean run of WoW with blank configs so it redetects your hardware. If it asks about your hardware having changed when you launch the game, choose yes to set it back to the defaults and then start configuring everything from scratch manually. I'd also set the rez to your native rez of 1920x1080, and make sure that you do not have it set to run in windowed mode (windowed mode causes a big hit on your fps). Make sure no preinstalled software like a firewall or malware protection are clogging up your pipes somehow either -- config them so that WoW and the WoW folder are always trusted. Try setting WoW to run as administrator in vista by right clicking the WoW.exe file in the warcraft folder and choosing properties, then clicking the "always run as administrator" check box. Another thing I noticed a long time ago on a different pc was that WoW was clashing with my sound card at the time, but only the ambient sounds would be buggy - so you might want to turn those off in the sound options, as well as turning off the music. I'd make sure you have the sound options such as hardware sound, etc, selected correctly in relation to the W90's sound card capabilities. To test you can try turning off all sound too , just to utilize the process of elimination to see if your framerates improve. Disable all WoW addons and restart the game as well in order to test for/remove any possbile glitches being caused by them.

Just some advice on some things to try if you feel like it. If anything works please post to let us know.. thanks. :)

I was not instigating anything, Just stating it is a lot easier to be patient when your end is in sight. I on the other hand am still waiting with no end in sight as the last e mail I received stated it would be June 9 but he does not know how big the order will be. For me it is not the waiting, well a little, it is more the fact it may not happen on June 9.

whoops, i got my dates wrong, i ordered on 4/23/2009.

lol, well, maybe you should choose your words more carefully.. i've been very patient, even when my end was not in sight. i've had to deal with constant delays, and pushbacks... heck, ken even offered to send me my lappy last friday, because it'd take him a few extra days to install the latest drivers/bios.. and i told him i don't mind waiting a few extra days.

like i said, i wouldn't be saying things like "Just stating it is a lot easier to be patient when your end is in sight," or "Easy to say now that your laptop is on its way," because you sort of come off as a jerk.

My restore finished for the C:, took forever nearly an hour... not sure why last time I used acronis it was done in less than half the time I could have installed just the OS....

But now I am doing it all over again with the newest backup I did lol.... Its just over half done and then I need to do the D: for my media. I may not have any time to play on it tonight at all.

I looked and cant believe there is no partition manager in there... Since my D: was like 250gb of stuff and the stock setup is 2x 160gbish partitions I may have to manage the partitions in Vista first before I can even restore my D:

    Um for what bench?

My game benches are in the review: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=370294

For 3dmark06 I was like 14500ish I think (cpu bound heavily)
For Vantage I was up really high I think but also still cpu bound.

See if this link works - http://service.futuremark.com/home.action?resultId=978355&resultType=19

I had higher but that was the highest I submitted.

Also while search is down try this.

    google.com --> search site:notebookreview.com 'search words here'

It should filter into searches for the forum, I just found my review with it in like 2 seconds. "site:notebookreview.com ultimate w90 review"
